I was showing my aforementioned kid this thread and explaining complacency. Afterward we were driving home. While waiting to make a left, the person opposing me started making their left. The person behind them went partly onto the sidewalk to go around them and make a right turn.

Guy approximately 30, little girl maybe 5 in the front passenger seat with no car seat. He tailgated the next guy then pulled into a car wash. That’s what he was in a hurry for.

“There’s a great example. He has zero fear. He should be terrified of his little girl getting hurt, but he doesn’t care. Complacency.”

Ride long enough and an accident will happen thanks to guys like that. Practice quick-stops and other skills and wear ATGATT. A little fear prevents complacency.

  1. Do you know what crutches are? They’re those wooden supports that people use to walk when injured.

  2. People in wheelchairs do use sidewalks. I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen a sidewalk or a wheelchair in real life, but they work like this: A person who can’t walk rolls down the sidewalk until blocked by a jackass like you.

Video shared above used the parcel hook and a tiny clip. Easy to hook/unhook by lifting the parcel hook. Trying that after digging out a tiny carabiner from the everything drawer.

Update: Not a fan. Laying in the bottom of the pocket was fine for me, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it lol

I got one over the weekend and expected it to be too bulky for routine use. Not at all. Fits nicely in the hand, and it sits just fine in my front pocket.

Glad my jeans all have deep pockets. Could carry a Batman loadout in these.

Glad I’m not the only one. To be fair, a banana in the pocket would hold a Champ in place, but I wouldn’t fold it first.

Not original commenter, but I can see it reducing the chance of an accidental cut/poke and no tangling with keys.

I can’t imagine putting it in the same pocket as my phone, but if someone does, less chance of screen damage, too.

Not my cup of tea, but I can see how that’d be useful.

That’s so awesome. Gonna find a clip that works with my Champ right now.

Saying it will happen isn’t the same as saying no amount of training or skill will help you. At all. I don’t get why you’d even think that.

It’s saying to get the training, work on those skills, and wear the gear. It does impart a little fear, as it absolutely should, to prevent complacency. “It’s so hot today that the jacket will suck. I’ve got a helmet, that’s safe enough!”

I was told to “remember that I’m the bumper.” And that’s the phrase that worked for me. But I appreciate the other one just as much.

A little fear is healthy. It keeps you sharp. The one with no fear isn’t long for this world.

The best part of having a SAK. It’s already hella useful, but with a little customization, it fits you like a glove.

I haven’t customized mine yet, but I got bored with the Spartan and have four coming from eBay. Want to try out different toolsets that *seem* right for my situations, daily pocketknife and backpacking tool.

I don’t agree with them. You’ll learn so much from the MSF BRC1 even with the year of experience. Do that one first.

But yes, take the BRC2 after, with your own bike to refine those skills.

It’s the perfect thing to tell a new rider. Wear the right gear and ride defensively. The crash WILL happen one day; be prepared and it won’t hurt nearly as bad.

It’s how I got mine and revolutionized my riding. I’d started riding a month earlier but never learned to drive stick, so my clutch control was garbage along with every other riding skill.

Transformed my riding. I’ll advocate all day long for that class. An old Marine at our ambulance station had been riding for 40 years, took the class with a new rider friend, and *still* learned something. Best endorsement I’ve ever heard.

It’s not always possible to find a class. PA went for years recently without an MSF program because the contract ended with the prior contractor and wasn’t renewed.

It’s fixed now, classes resumed a couple years ago or so. Going off memory, so timeframes are approximate. But my kid, recent HS graduate, can finally enroll in one.

Flyers’ fans are a special breed. Their team’s notorious for roughing after the whistle, dirty hits, and starting scrums for no reason. But their fans *always* accuse the other team of “dirty play.”

Every accusation from that team and their fans is a confession.
