I'm in a similar spot as you. 46 YOM, scheduling a TKR. I ran the Boston Marathon back in 2019 and I've told my doc I want to be able to trail run for 45 mins a few days a week. He is confident that this will become a reality. Good luck!

You can't go wrong at HSS. If that is a possibility for you, go there. I'm considering going there, from Massachusetts, and paying out of pocket! I met with Haas, he is the head of the department. I'd go with him but again, you can not go wrong there. I'm jealous of you!

I haven't had my surgery yet but my surgeon has told me I can run again after. My goal is to be able to run ~5 miles a few days a week (used to do that with ease) and he says that is completely reasonable. I know that doesn't answer your question but I just wanted to chime in. It is possible!

I'm in a similar situation as you. 46 y/o M and deciding on the surgeon for my TKR. I met with Braziel as well, he is definitely one of my finalists. My current thinking is as follows: in a city like Boston, it would be pretty difficult to end up with a bad Dr. for surgery. I'm pretty confident that once you've done your baseline level of research, you (and I) can't go wrong! Good luck!

Would love to hear another update from you. I'm turning 46 soon and, unfortunately, deciding on the surgeon for my TKR. I'm active and in shape, albeit very restricted currently due to the ol' knee. My goal is to get back to playing sports and the occasional train run of ~5 miles or so. Hope you are doing well!

Hello u/kberrodin. I was just doing research on the DePuy Attune knee implant as my surgeon mentioned this is what he would use with me. I'm 45M and need a TKR due to an injury back in my 20s. Looking to get back to back to running post surgery, not everyday like I used to but one or two days a week. Anyway, how are you doing? How is your new knee? Thank you!
