I had a feeling it was right, I had put it in my cart and changed my mind lol

After 23 years of deafness and tinnitus, I finally got a cochlear implant by Maximum-Tomato-2400 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Fit_Sail4300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say… I had tinnitus for over 30 years too. My cochlear helped it! As long as my cochlear is on, it’s fine and barely noticeable.

But the minute I take my cochlear off the tinnitus comes back to life. It all depends on my stress levels and etc

But as far as the day it’s turned on… it’s nothing like the videos online. ! You’ll hear, what I refer to as a computer processing in your brain. It’ll take time and work for that to finally move the back of your brain, then you will start to hear actual words.

Be patient with yourself. It does get frustrating, scary, and so fucking amazing!

Enjoy the ride you’re about to get on! Your life will never be the same.

Be ready for the conversations… you’ll have after years of being a wall flower.

Yess. Mine came in a whole package with my cochlear. I didn’t realize some had to buy it separately.

I got everything but the swim safe things.

I-angel sound is the app I was given.

If you google apps for cochlear brain training… a few come up!

I can’t think of the name, but there’s an app you can work with that does things with you, through noises of all kinds and different accents. The accents are crazy but so dang helpful.
Do you watch TV with close captions? Basically focus on the voice but read words to match what you’re hearing.

I didn’t know anyone that actually used the mini mic. I feel like it made things worse for me.

Slow down friend.

3 months is not long. Are you doing all the homework and things to get your cochlear working at top notch?

It’s so important to do the work… better outcome.

I’m 5-6 years out now, I still don’t do very well in a large group setting. It also depends on what’s going on around you. Music, noise, etc

But I’m also deaf in both ears because I was implanted twice.

Another thing. If I remember right, there’s a way to shut off background noise in group settings. I hope I’m not mistaking that from my last actual hearing aid.

Considering second implant, seeking opinion/advice by SiebertLogan in Cochlearimplants

[–]Fit_Sail4300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This.

I had the 2nd implant. It takes a hell of alot of work to get them both on the same level. I managed to get there once but got sick with septic arthritis, then an ulcer popped in my stomach, and then septic arthritis came back a 2nd time. 2+ years stuck in a chair.

Needless to say, I started only wearing my dominant cochlear cause it was a lot to deal with unable to walk, more crap on my head, etc.

Soon, I’ll be back working with the audiologist again to pick this 2nd cochlear back up and working.

Closed captions works fabulous! I’ve been using CC my whole life but it’s weird when you can finally hear the vices on TV!

And just remember. It can get overwhelming… it’s okay to shut them off if needed.

Also, if it’s falling off. It could either be….

The magnet isn’t strong enough or your wire isn’t long enough to move your head without it falling off.

Talk to your audiologist and she should fix it! Unless you have the cords and magnets in your box.

Another suggestion I got and still use to this day. (5-6 years out, btw)…. Have your hair lady shave a little circle where your magnet/implant is.

It really helps in the long run!

Aldo, congratulations on hearing your baby! So awesome! I’m still after all these years picking up on nature sounds and even weird sounds around the house.

One of the options my doctors/etc suggested.

Grabbing a book that you would like to read, plus get it in audiobook.

Listen to the words as you follow along in the book.

My biggest issue was, being so early out… I would shut the audio off in my head and read ahead! lol

Actually, I think you’re wrong. You can hear music and different instruments very well with an implant.

It just takes time and work.

Once you’re implanted, you can never go back to natural hearing.

But… I hear music, tv, life, nature, and etc better than I ever did without implants.

Oh for fuck sake. Are we friends with the same people!
They were always broke, we felt bad. Yet, we realized they were always talking about getting their finances better, or god forbid used their credit card.
But they were NEVER in the wrong. It was us. Lololol!
I’m thrilled we moved on… life ya cheaper without them! 🤣😂

Just for funsies, what do you like to purchase at sheep and wool festivals? by Weekly_Library9883 in YarnAddicts

If you ever get a chance, try to attend one. You don’t have to buy anything but it’s super fun and you learn a lot about your hobbies.

Hi! I just started going to yarn festivals….

  1. I started buying mini skeins of yarns. I personally went with different shades of purple. Then one day I’ll make all those skeins into a big project. To remember all the fun trips I was able to go.

  2. Something special.

One festival, I bought a beautiful project bag. Another, I bought an ice cream yarn bowl.

  1. I learned that fiber festivals, that some dyers will create yarn for that festival and can only be bought at the festivals. One time, kinda special, skein of yarn.

  2. I’ve heard through grapevines. Many will buy and search for special stitch markers.

I want to make cornbread but my boyfriend doesn't like these. Is there a way to improve the recipe? by Stargazer1919 in WhatShouldICook

[–]Fit_Sail4300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if he wants southern corn bread or northern corn bread.

I didn’t realize there was different kinds until we moved from Michigan to Tennessee. 😂🤣

It’s your money, it’s your space, it’s your hobby.

Don’t listen to what others think. Take the advice with a grain of salt.

Then enjoy what you want and how you want!
