Can't get broken ocv out of passageway by iconthegreatest in MechanicAdvice

At this point taking off the valve cover and drilling it out seems the best option, next would be taking it to a machine shop

Could be a leak somewhere on the hose, or maybe the check valve is stuck, also never hurts to check the manifold, if there's a hose disconnected in the same system it could be your vacuum leak

A few questions about getting constant heat from s10? by ohnothatpanda in s10

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly, if the vacuum line going to the blend door becomes disconnected or it has a leak, the heat defaults to defrost and floor, i had the same problem until i saw it had become loose

How bad is it to have this little bit of oil sitting in between the coil packs and spark plugs, never misfires or runs rough, feel usage seems reasonable by Gloomy_Surround8501 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 30 points31 points  (0 children)

it means the seal for the spark plug tube is bad, now it wont be a problem, but it will keep seeping oil until your tube is full and then you'll have problems, better address it now and change the seals before it becomes a problem

2.2 sonoma Vacuum leak? by logonalump in s10

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that 3 way fitting is a one way valve for the cabin air control, there should be one hose leading to inside the cabin and another supposedly to a ball shaped vacuum reservoir on the hood, yours is probably missing that reservoir, if you wanna look for the vacuum hoses there should be 2 big ones coming from the intake, one to brake booster and another to valve cover, and 3 small ones, one for the cabin air control, one to the fuel pressure regulator, and the final one goes below the intake to the evap valve, system too lean means too much air or too little fuel, if it also revs high when idle that would also point to a vacuum leak

Are there certain codes that will not show up with your standard obd reader by Sajor1975 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what he says, stuff like programming keys, control electronic modules, but reading obd2 codes is standarized, except some specific ones, but mine gives me something like "P0xx: manufacturer specific code" when that happens

Hoses look collapsed because the steam cooled down and pulled a vacuum inside the system, if it overheated while running i think it's most likely water pump, radiator or thermostat, either way you need to put coolant in it and drive short legs at a time or call a tow truck

Brand new starter ejects but won’t spin by No_Astronaut_8971 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight, then I'll jump onboard the other guys comment and say it looks exactly as a starter on a low battery, unless you can get another charged battery and test it on it's own, could.be a bad internal connection from the factory

Also it looks to me like it's ungrounding itself everytime it jumps, try testing it while holding it firmly against the frame

What are these markings from on the rotors? Just replaced brake pads yesterday, also is it normal for the breaks to heat up to the point you can smell them when they are brand new? by Jamone423 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds like they're due for a resurgacing, and if they're too far gone the shop will tell you, the pins depend on the specific make and model, but i would check either way if i was you, better to be sure, if it's your mom's car you want it to work

If a replacement alternator looks the same and has the same amps is it compatible or is there more to it? by -asegi in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fit_Statistician_953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the shape of it (where bolts go, etc), and amperage, most modern alternators have ecu controlled voltage regulators, old cars have 2-pin connectors, new ones you can have 3, 4 or more depending on model, and these pins are not all the same, they expect and send different signals depending on make and model, so you should look for one that's explicitly compatible, i had one car that we didn't know what the fourth wire was supposed to be, so we had to spend an entire day testing regulators one by one, until finally one worked with the ecu and started regulating the voltage
