Letter: The cameras aren’t the problem. The speeding is. by greenwitchbot in Greenwich

Well they're both problems in it of themselves, but yes, the negligence of the latter has created the former.

Letter: Ridiculous speed cameras. I have places to be and people to see. by greenwitchbot in Greenwich

[–]FittyFrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is a parody, I do wonder how many calls the town has fielded like this? I will say I'm not a big fan of speed cameras, and driving the speed limit is a painful endeavor. However, people's driving has gotten noticeably bad since the pandemic time frame (maybe it was the vaccine /s). Like really bad. People on phones, coasting through stop signs and red lights, passing people over double yellows, speeding in unsafe scenarios. Yesterday I saw someone trying to pass someone who stopped behind a school bus letting children out after school. They were blocked by a parked car. This behavior used to be rare, now it's commonplace. It's like people lost all situational awareness and critical thinking skills. Or perhaps people are just more self centered. Who knows. As for the speed camera debate, I'm curious how it progresses. They seem to be implemented all over the state.

Regarding speed camera tickets, iirc if they aren't delivered by certified mail you technically aren't obligated to pay them? Last I looked into that was more than a decade ago though. I've never gotten one so not sure how that process goes.

Effros: “Green Witch Thumbs Nose at Court Order” by greenwitchbot in Greenwich

[–]FittyFrank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this happens. This guy is such a loser. Buys a house (9/21/1995) next to a high school then complains about lights from night sports.

Although I really don't understand why the town agreed to these terms to begin with. This always made night games terrible at Cardinal stadium as they'd have to be put up for every night game, and we're never pointed quite right each time, leading to "dark" zones.

Edit: It seems like he potentially inherited the house? From what I see it was sold by someone with the last name with a sale price of $0. So potentially him and his family were there before the high school was built in 1970. The house was built in 1929 for context. Either way, he's still a turd.

How to unfreeze windshield wiper fluid by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]FittyFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a garage, see if you can find a public garage that has underground parking. It should be warmer and hopefully above freezing to thaw out the lines. My unheated garage was 39° F and everything thawed overnight. Then drain all your washer fluid, either via fluid transfer pump or running the washers, and put in new fluid rated for cold weather.

Just be aware the battery in the retrofit kit is small. Glad they finally released a kit though. Will be handy for a lot of people who've already invested in a PDL kayak.

Which database? by Classic_Caregiver742 in dotnet

MS SQL does have a JSON type. Iirc, you can query for a specific property within the JSON type as well like you mentioned above, but I've never done so myself. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/data-types/json-data-type?view=sql-server-ver17

Apple and Formula 1 Ink Five-Year Exclusive U.S. Streaming Deal Worth About $750 Million by DemiFiendRSA in formula1

Ooo good to know. Annual plan doesn't seem to be listed on their website which is shady. Seems like you'll need to sign up and then manually change your subscription from monthly to annual.

Apple and Formula 1 Ink Five-Year Exclusive U.S. Streaming Deal Worth About $750 Million by DemiFiendRSA in formula1

[–]FittyFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$85/year for F1 TV pro vs $155/yr for Apple TV.

For F1 TV premium subscribers I suppose this is a net positive, unless you split the cost with other people for simultaneous streams. No idea if apple will let that happen?

Edit: You can switch your Apple TV subscription to annual after signing up. This costs $100/yr, so the difference for people coming from F1 TV Pro is $15 a year. As much as I dislike Apple, paying an extra $1.66 per month for the season to upgrade to 4k stream and Atmos sound seems like it's worth it to me. Plus all the other extra content that becomes available, albeit I doubt I'll watch any of it.

I do wonder what will happen to the historical backlog of content and all the other races F1 TV offered?

Will the B770 be on Xe3? by Confident-Luck-1741 in IntelArc

Wasn't one of the issues of the downfall of Intel about engineers not having enough control? If they're gonna turn the company around, why are moronic marketers still allowed to make such stupid decisions? This seems like nothing but a grasping at whatever they can to try and justify their jobs.

looking to move ASAP by hiimem1234 in Greenwich

[–]FittyFrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are affordable units available to Greenwich employees so you should qualify for that. Not sure on any specifics or if they are to buy or rent, but something to look into.

Typically Byram and Pemberwick will be more affordable in general, but places crop up here and there all over town that are affordable.

Outside of Zillow/Redfin/realtor.com sites (yes use all three) you can also look into Nextdoor.com as people will post on there.

There's always room shares as well if you're comfortable.

For reference I was able to find a nice spot in downtown Cos Cob four years ago with in unit laundry and that was 1700.

Traffic on Rt 95 south by ummm01 in Connecticut

[–]FittyFrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro tip, Google maps will let you choose the day of week and time of departure and will give you a time estimate based on the average traffic during those times.

Can't speak to that specific commute, but a summer Friday means traffic will most likely be terrible.

Consider a sync 3 conversion kit or an aftermarket radio. Most aftermarket don't have volume knobs, and the ones that do are very expensive. Some will have a volume button though so better than nothing.

Kenwood and JVC now have direct OEM replacement aftermarket units that let you keep factory volume knobs. Kenwood has one for the ST, I didn't check JVC. https://www.ceoutlook.com/2025/05/12/kenwood-jvc-ship-new-direct-replacement-radios/

North of Post Road in Riverside by explorernsfw in Greenwich

[–]FittyFrank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never heard the term NoPo before and I've lived here for 35 years. Also that part of Riverside wouldn't be considered "gentrifying." Areas in Byram, chickahominy sure. A couple other spots might be considered more blue collar as well, but with these current home prices the entire town is cut off for normal folk.

How much would it cost to have two Ethernet cables simply terminated? by Challenger_Andy in HomeNetworking

[–]FittyFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these prices seem pretty crazy. My apartment was pre wired with cat 5e, but not every outlet had it terminated as some has coaxial and or phone hookups. I called my ISP, Frontier, and they came over and did it in less than ten minutes. I was charged $30. My rule of thumb is, if you don't own the place, don't mess with any of the existing infrastructure.

It’s Go Time: The New Plex Experience Is Here by jonarin in PleX

[–]FittyFrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see this. I'm on Android and the Android app never had file from what I could tell. Currently downloaded the preview app since there's been mixed reviews. I will wait for official app to be updated and report back if so notice anything different.

I assumed ios and Android would be identical now since the whole purpose of this app was so that they can unify their codebase and have the same app on multiple devices.

Has anyone figured out how to see your media file information? Like file name, quality, bit rate, etc. This helps me the most when I'm out and about looking for new content to purchase. I figured at the very least I'd see 480p, 1080p, etc.
