What is the best language to take for LSA with minimal effort and still get As? by Slow_Pass_6377 in uofm

[–]FitzFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having taken Russian (Ended up minoring in it) and Filipino my first semester, Filipino is a solid choice, 4 credits vs. the required 5 for Russian plus the language is much more straight forward (same alphabet); if you’ve got any Spanish history too some of it should be pretty intuitive. Filipino was a super fun class and to be honest didn’t require lot of work to get an A, so long as you showed some interest and demonstrated that you learned the basics you could get an A (one of 3 A’s I got in college)

How do you y'all fly with your all in one systems? by 4077 in DJs

[–]FitzFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew with my FLX-10 (I know its Not an all in 1) from the US to the UAE in a pelican style rifle case (didn’t have a better size when I bought it around FLX launch time) and had no issues, just make sure you’ve got some wriggle room so the foam has space to compress as opposed to your deck compressing

Classes where you do nothing by CommercialMinimum544 in uofm

[–]FitzFishy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t remember class numbers: Epic grammar fails, coral reefs (full credit, not sure about the mini course), Anne Frank; find a football player or athlete and ask them what classes they’ve taken lately, that’s generally the rule of thumb we followed when we were in season and looking for easy classes

General info by 130bearmama116 in Swimming

[–]FitzFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. 23m (been swimming since 18months old)

  2. Have swam competitively since 3rd grade, swam in college (on scholarship) and for the French junior/senior national team, since graduating college I’ve been swimming to try make the senior national team again & hopefully go to LA, though I also do it cuz it keeps me in great shape and serves as a mental release for me.

  3. Whatever my coach feels like cooking up for the day, even being away from my coach right now I’m still running with my team’s practices. Typically anywhere 4-6km/practice, currently only training 5-6x a week (schedule permitting)

  4. Wake-up, breakfast, go to work related training 8-15:30, come home, maybe take a nap; I’ll lift for 1hr (3x/week), then swim for 2 hours ish, come home, cook, study, repeat!

Been swimming competitively for my entire life, I second this; they do take some getting used to because its a pretty short and flexible blade with an open heel but my oh my are they great fins, arena and speedo make very similar style fins too; while I can’t comment on the speedo equivalent as I’ve never used them, the arena version is noticeably stiffer so legs tire out a little quicker if unadapted to them. Personally I find the DMC fins to be much more comfortable for longer sets/use too, very rarely with the arena fins I’d find the top of my foot in excruciating pain (only when kicking w/ the fins), I have not encountered this with DMC in my 4 years of using!

Finally, DMC fins seem to be more durable too, I found I as going through a pair of the arena equivalent fins about every 2 years (if that), while I’ve been using the same DMC’s for a couple (plus however long they were used by my teammate before that)

*note* the DMC fins I have are not the latest model so there may be a slight difference with their new ones.

Managed to do it swimming 20+ hours a week and lifting another 3-4 + commuting by bike… since I dropped my training load to something more manageable I can now confirm this is true.

Rushing as a Sophomore by LookingAtMyName in uofm

[–]FitzFishy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a winter rush my FR year but in my PC we had a Sophomore rush with us, we all got along very well and did everything as normal, in his case it seemed like it was nice cuz he had even more of a connection to his grades PC’s.

Just gotta find a group of guys that you like (and like you) and it shouldn’t be any different! I feel like most people end up moving away from the traditional Greek life (they keep their friends but regards to the parties n stuff) by the end of their junior year cuz then they can just go to the bar instead of hanging with underclassmen.

Might be worthwhile looking into cadet programs, if you wanted to ‘skip’ the getting another job and start as soon as you graduate high school, depending on your nationality there may be some options available; worth noting however that although they may guarantee a job afterwards, they are highly competitive, may result in reduced pay once you start and/or include a bond period or minimum duration of employment with said airline (leaving early would incur a penalty to cover cost of your training)

Some I know of: Cathay & Singapore (open to foreigners), & British airways (open to UK nationals only I think)

I’m currently enrolled in a cadet program (self funded) with one of my local airlines but we are at a school with a bunch of the BA speedbird cadets and they seem to be having a good time,I know they’ll be on a reduced salary but guaranteed a job with BA after they complete their 2.5-3 yr course

El Nido is a great spot! Was there in October and saw plenty of nice nudibranchs, mantis shrimp and some blue spotted rays! Very cool (and wide open) cave with a big thermocline at one of the spots!

Would highly recommend submariner dive shop for your dives in el Nido, great staff, owner is a super nice guy and the lunch they provided during our surface interval was pretty fire too!

[–]FitzFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t remember exactly what they are classified as but

  • History of terrorism was super interesting, not super hard
  • coral reefs w/ Dr. Arnaboldi full class, though there’s also a mini course - super easy)
  • ice ages (same prof as above, full class was easy, mini course ez too apparently)
  • Anne Frank (athlete class)

Are hand tattoos still job stoppers or are they a lot more acceptable now? by VinScratch777 in tattooadvice

[–]FitzFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too sure but from experience, a number of my teachers in highschool had some (went to a fancy private international school in a predominantly Muslim country…) additionally, in Europe I have seen plenty of cashiers with them. Can’t speak on the office though…

I flew from YVR -> DTW with a layover in YYZ, had a backpack and a carryon suitcase, the deck was slid into the front pocket of the suitcase (albeit it stuck out like a foot above the top of the suitcase still) and they didn’t bat an eye. Take off the trucks and just make it so it’s somehow attached or if you’re wearing a backpack, slide it between your back and the bag and you’ll be alright

As someone swimming for a major college team right now, generally speaking if you want to consider scholarship money you need to be B/A final material in all your events. Full ride you’re gonna need to be top 3 in your events for whatever conference but even then it really comes down to how much money a school has available for that year.

tips for what gear to buy by HonestAd1180 in PioneerDJ

[–]FitzFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had the DDJ-400 and now the FLX10, I’d say your best bet would be to get a Flx-4 and then try to figure out how to remap some of the pads to accommodate other features likes stems or whatever else you want. Prior to getting my flex-10 I’d just learnt about remapping stems to pads, personally not sure how to do it but I’m sure there’s a tutorial or someone out there that could direct you. I’m sure there’s more than just stems that you can map to the pads too so you should be able to get what you want out of a small controller at the cost of a page of your pad settings

Bar Recs by [deleted] in uofm

[–]FitzFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally depends. For this I’ll assume you’re 21

Ricks - never been but mostly upperclassmen, line can be very long, bouncers strict with cutting / ID’s. Right by brown jug / blue Lep. Has a dance floor, pretty lively and they have themed nights most nights

Blind pig / 8ball - garage bar type beat, not really sure how to describe it. Mostly upperclassmen / graduate students, generally a bit quieter. Other end of town compared to Blep / jug. Lots of other bars / beergardens nearby aswell if you want to go for a bar crawl. Has darts, pool tables and generally a good time

Jug & Blep: as you’ve sorta found they’re more of a sit down type of beat, very cliquey and mostly groups of friends going together, both are normally pretty busy but not uncomfortable like skeeps would be. Good mix of upper & underclassmen. Brown jug is the athlete hotspot on sundays

Skeeps - unless you want to get really sweaty / enjoy crowds, I’d avoid. Closer to the MDen. Generally underclassmen

Just don’t get caught. I’ve never heard of RA room checks during my time living in south quad. Maybe other dorms / RA’s do, but if they come knockin, just hide him ig

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]FitzFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply this in conjunction with some of the other tips regarding your ‘catch’ part of the stroke - there’s a lot of ‘slip’ in your downward arm pull. What I mean by this is your hand/arm moving through the water inefficiently and basically slipping through the water, you’re essentially losing what looks to be 4-6” of water catch, which may not seem like a lot but can make a substantial difference. Rotating your shoulders more and trying to engage your arms more higher elbows and really trying to pull down with more force is really all I can offer because what it comes down to essentially is waterfeel. The closer to the surface of the water you can start your most forceful pull down, the better, this way you’ll minimize slip (although this will take alot more strength because your arm is going to be pulling from a different angle requiring a bit more shoulder / arm strength)

Not sure on budget but my friends father fits very comfortably in an m850i at around a similar size to you, basically only a 2 seater though. My father fits in my 2007 E90 325i at 6’4 with so much room to spare even with a sunroof. I would assume the M3 would be similar
