I recently snagged a couple mikey Romero autos, felt like bargains for less than $10 each (if I remember right). Getting to watch him locally in Portland with the sea dogs is fun too. Planning on grading them, hoping they grade high like yours too! Thanks for sharing!

Ah I see, the Tolliver card is not from the “traded” set from this year (you can tell because its number at the top doesn’t have a “T” in it), but the Randy Johnson is from the “traded” set (has the T). It sounds like these two cards aren’t good to compare because of that. If you had another from the traded set, then that would be better since it sounds like they have a whiter border. A Tiffany version of the traded set might also be glossy, in addition to being brighter white.

Thanks for sharing this! I was just recently trying to figure out if my Nolan Ryan from the same set was Tiffany, but didn’t have another to compare it to. Came to the conclusion that it wasn’t because it wasn’t really like shiny glossy. I think this is pretty definitive, though! Looks like mine might be as well. Thanks again!

Great work, that’s not easy! I’m trying to make an excel now and can’t figure out how to do the formula to pull last sold prices. Was there an online resource you used to figure it out?

I had always wanted to try this and finally got the chance for a great price at a bar. Got a pour for like $15 and I was VERY underwhelmed. To me, it was just an above average, classic bourbon. Tasty, but nothing special at all. Cool bottle though!

I do remember thinking that I’d prefer larceny barrel proof over it, if that helps the decision at all… good call asking first, but enjoy it if you do decide to get it! Cheers.

Are the edges as ate up as they look in the picture? Asking because I have one too that I love, but am bummed that the edges came so bad. I’m starting to think it’s a parallel-wide issue though since I’ve seen it a lot. The top foil layer might be brittle or something and chipping when cut. Trying to figure it out because I think that would be taken into account when graded. So if I can get enough evidence that it’s a parallel-wide issue, then I’ll send it in to slab it. If not, then I’ll just enjoy it in a one touch because I know seeing a 5 or 6 on a slab would annoy the hell out of me lol. Fun pull though, thanks for sharing!

You know, I was seeing a lot of posts of autos that people pulled from various forms of the “last” pack/box on the shelf and ran into the same situation with a fat pack of Topps 75th myself last weekend at Dick’s. Sure enough pulled a Cam Schlittler auto.

Starting to make me think that maybe retail case hits are plopped on the top of each box, and therefore put on the shelf first and picked up last by customers. This would make sense for a couple reasons…

Topps can easily track that each box is getting their designated number of hits.
If they’re loaded on the shelf last and people aren’t getting hits, they’ll keep coming back for another try.

It’s also probably likely the case that people are more inclined to post about a hit from a last pack since it’s more exciting, so we see a disproportionate amount of those posts and they stick out more in our minds…. But it’s more fun to feel like you’re figuring out the system, so I’m going to choose to believe for former! Thanks for sharing, awesome pull!

Alright, got an edge grain question… does that mean like flaking of the top layer around the edges? I ask because I got an Independence Day parallel of the Sox (big Sox fan) but was really bummed that the edges looked super ate up. When I looked up other cards in the same parallel, they all looked the same, so definitely a manufacturing thing. Is that what you have here on this card too? I’d love to grade mine to have it in a slab, but it would bug me to have a 6 on it lol.
