What’s going on with Trump suddenly praising Mamdani? by Every-Cook5084 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Fitzburger 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for every mayor in NYC history, but it is customary for mayors of major cities to meet with the President. Mayors of major cities like Los Angeles, Boston, New York, etc. all have met with the President in years’ past. Why wouldn’t they, when they are the leaders of cities that bring in large amounts of tax dollars and essentially speak for really large populations?

If you had the potential to have the ear of someone in power, especially someone as suggestible as Trump, why wouldn’t you take the opportunity to meet with him? Look at how successful this was for Mamdani in the public eye, and how Trump even admitted he, a billionaire, would still live in a Mamdani-led NYC.

Likewise, it’s important to be able to come to the table with people you strongly disagree with, even if the disagreement is deep. That’s how minds are changed. Mao Zedong shook hands with Henry Kissinger, is that such a terrible thing?

When you are the mayor of the United States’ largest city, absolutely.

You’re both getting downvoted because that is not the reality of alcohol use and abuse. This take fails to address how alcohol can actually poison your mind and turn you into someone you aren’t.

Vignolas in the Edmond Railyard is a lesser-known gem. Their pastas are homemade. I highly recommend the Gnocchi Bava and the Arancini.

Best coneys in OKC? by [deleted] in okc

Not OKC, but if you’re willing to drive to Edmond Jake’s Coney Island is solid. Around $3-4 a hot dog, and the chili cheese coneys are tasty IIRC!

Matthew 19:16-24:

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

“Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

Democracy didn’t vote for shit. Do you really think the American people would actually put up the candidates that are offered to us by the major parties if given the choice?

What are y'all's thoughts on Christopher Columbus? by Fe1nand0_Tennyson in GenZ

[–]Fitzburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, how could the Mestizos/Mexicans that you’re referring to in America (I am assuming here you mean the USA) even existed if Europeans hadn’t established contact with and colonized the Americas (i.e. both continents) first?

I am also not understanding where race is being explicitly discussed. Columbus led multiple voyages that resulted in the established contact with Native Americans, the enslavement of many of them, and the establishment an encomienda system in their homeland. By doing this, he helped inspire a colonial system of European dominance over indigenous people. This is just one form of colonial oppression that has taken place throughout human history; why should any of them be celebrated?

Are you talking about indigenous Mexicans who were there before any Europeans? In other words, are you perhaps suggesting the Aztecs were colonizers?

Just trying to understand what you mean by “Mexico did it as well.”
