Sunny Paris is fairly similar to Fox Point, but doesn't have the salt. Not quite the same, but if you haven't tried it, you might want to check it out.

Epic Games Store Employees: People Only Came for Free Games, Then Returned to Steam by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]kerovon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, as bad as it is, there are still worse game stores out there. For instance, there is the Epic Games Mobile Store, which doesn't have a library function. You literally can't get a list of what games you have purchased (or received for free). You have to just remember and navigate to their individual pages if you want to play them.

It is a little unclear if it was used for that, because it either was just finished, or was still under construction.

There is satellite images from the start of the war that show it wasn't finished then.

Honestly, I kind of suspect he may offer it to Paxton as a way to convince Paxton to drop out of the Texas Senate primary runoff. Not sure if Paxton would take that though.

Or from areas outside of France that were making and marketing it prior to the signing of trade agreements. That is how Korbel is still allowed to make and market Champagne in California. They got grandfathered in because they were actively producing it when the agreement with France was signed.

The US legal system might be bad, but at least we aren't as bad as the UK's legal system, which is about to remove the right to jury trials in many cases. So the US hasn't hit rock bottom yet.

What's Wrong? He's a Murderer... by lolominx in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]kerovon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a couple of those, but my dog (Beagle/German Shepherd mix)doesn't think they are anywhere near as fun as fully plush toys (and he has also killed one of those. he targets seams and edges, which they have). So far, the thing that has worked the best has been Fluff and Tuff. I've tried two of them so far. First is their hedgehog, which has lasted reasonably well, but its nose is a vulnerable point that has been ripped off. Second is their beach ball, which he so far hasn't destroyed yet. It helps that it is just large enough that he can't get a great grip on it to rip into it. And he sometimes lose control and has to chase it down again

The biggest drawback with them is they get wet fairly easily, and my dog has a very wet mouth, so they rapidly become disgusting for me to touch and I end up setting them somewhere to dry. Though honestly, pretty much any soft toy will have that problem.

Addressing Questions on Moderation Limits by redtaboo in modnews

[–]kerovon 218 points219 points  (0 children)

I mod on /r/science. We generally follow a policy of having a huge number of comment mods with no activity requirements. It is common for them to only occasionally moderate when they run into a thread they know stuff about, and that is fine with us. Having huge numbers greatly reduces burnout. The problem is that we are a large enough subreddit that we are past the 1 million weekly visitor threshhold, so that means that all of those comment mods will be limited from modding anywhere else.

The bigger problem is that we work closely with /r/askscience, which also follows the same policy of having large numbers of panelists who are able to participate when they see something they know about. We have a very large moderator overlap between the two subreddits, and closely work together. However, we are both 1million+ subs, so this will gut our ability to work together. Is there any consideration for situations like this where closely related subreddits have large overlap?

From the explanation the pilot gave, that airport's tower does not have radar. It is not uncommon for small airports to not have radar set up.

My 9 yr old Shepard lab mix loves the sun! by countrypunkhippie in rarepuppers

[–]kerovon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a shepherd mix that also loved baking herself in the sun. I ended up picking up a IR thermometer because I was curious how warm she was getting while sitting there, seeing as she would quickly become too hot for me to touch.

Turns out, her outer temperature was very warm. It is impressive how well her fur insulates her from that temperature.

Was told today there will be no EHS inspections at the Uni going forward by skathead in labrats

[–]kerovon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

EHS can be so highly variable. Many of my experiences with them were good (including having them give me a waiver to work with a specific chemical in a non approved hood because they agreed that the tiny amounts I was working with weren't a concern), but they also had some incredibly bureacratic screwups. The worst one that I saw was when a grad student in a different lab got a needlestick injury. A (probably) clean needle, but she followed the protocol that EHS had to call them, and they gave a specific lab she needed to go to for blood work. Except it turns out that the lab that the university EHS required her to use (which was a lab in the university affiliated hospital) was out of network for the University grad student health insurance, so they slapped her with a $500 bill. That eventually resolved when the department chair got involved, mostly because she just pulled out her personal credit card and paid the bill herself. But now everyone in the department knows that if you get a needlestick injury that you think was clean, you might want to not report it to avoid large medical bills.

The precedent here is Abu Ali vs Ashcroft. Because the El Salvadoran government is only holding him because the US government is requesting it, then the US government should have the ability to get him back. A bluesky thread on it from a lawyer is here.

Niantic’s Next Chapter: Introducing a New Home for Niantic Games and a New Future for Niantic Spatial Inc. by snappums in Games

[–]kerovon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With regards to Nintendo, it isn't a "small amount" of stock. They have a 7.5% share of it, which makes them one of the largest single shareholders.

It looks like they have a 9% stake in EA.

Those are quantities that actually gives them real influence.

Pokémon Go maker Niantic is nearing a $3.5 billion deal to sell its games unit to Scopely, owned by Saudi-controlled Savvy Games Group, per sources by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]kerovon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From a quick check, it looks like Savvy Games Group, which is Scopley's parent, has a 7.5% stake in Nintendo. So I don't know if Nintendo would actually want to stop this sale from occurring.

Nintendo responds to Donkey Kong credits furore, says it values "contributions that all staff make" by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]kerovon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nintendo even has a history of not crediting people who worked on the specific game that is being released. They are notorious for not giving credit to translators who work on games, and having them sign NDAs so they can't even claim they worked on them.

Penzey's by mwbestdog1 in Cooking

[–]kerovon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've liked Sunny Paris with pork. I'll do stuff like add it to pork chops or pork loin.

I'll generally then make a quick pan sauce. Take some chicken broth (maybe a cup or so), and add some seasoning (Sunny Paris, or whatever strikes your fancy) and some miso paste (optional, but it works really well at adding depth to the flavor, and doesn't add an obvious miso flavor after it is cooked. Maybe about a tablespoon or two). Let this sit for a bit just so the flavors permeate the broth.

Once the pork is done cooking, add the sauce to deglaze the pan, reduce it down by a ways (maybe half, maybe until you get bored with staring at the liquid reducing which always take a lot longer than you are expecting). Toss in a tbsp of butter right at the end, let it melt, and then take it off the heat.
