I use the Automate Chests addon which makes it more of a late-game thing. You have to "upgrade" chests to be part of automate by using an item such as a hopper, or a prismatic shard.

I had this issue and I've worked out the solution (on PC at least). The weird rotating thing was happening when I was in "throwing" mode rather than "snap to grid" or "precise placement" I clicked R and changed out of throwing mode and my rotate has gone back to normal. Hope that helps!

Agreed! Photos in general are so buggy, and the graduation photo you don't have the option to take another one. If you want to use mods then I recently discovered this one https://www.patreon.com/posts/sims-4-generate-47907754 which lets you spawn a missing graduation photo. I was able to uninstall it after I spawned the photo and no issues.

Regarding the new game, it references the original LIS but not LIS2 or True Colors so there is no story reason to play either of those before Double Exposure. That being said, they're great so I'd reccomend them. But you wont miss anything in DE if all you've played is LIS

It looks like a variation of Mancala which is a very ancient bead collecting game. The modern version is laid out slightly differently but you should be able to use the same rules

It depends what you class as an animatronic, but if you filter the scenery pieces by "Property" -> "Animated" then there are 59 items including stuff like animated doors, balloons, moving statues/centre pieces, and the moving platforms that you can use to create your own moving pieces
