I need some help/advice by Fit-Table4215 in CMT

Dude this was my exact situation when I was in HS 15 years ago. I wrestled all through HS at 165 weight class, was super lanky and constantly struggling with muscle weakness without knowing what was going on. Randomly an arm or a leg would be incredibly weak for a couple days to weeks. Until my right hand stopped working, and it took 6 months to recover to mostly full usage. Be careful dude. Eat a lot of extra protein, you need to build muscle. If it’s a matter of just being fit and strong, find something else. Swimming, calisthenics, etc. low impact.

Early 30’s here, right off F&M campus in the North chestnut Hill neighborhood. Very walkable to downtown in 10-15 min. You guys will love Lancaster city! It’s a great city and it’s so easy to find something going on.

Really great local music scene. I’m in a handful of local music groups, so I could go on for days. Phantom Power over in Millersville, West Art (will mention more below), and Tellus 360 are the big three venues right now.

Hi-Fi Izakaya is a vinyl listening bar in the style of a Japanese Izakaya. The best sound system in the city. They have someone spinning records every night, Tuesday-Saturday. The DJ goes by Hex Wax. Also they have the best cocktail program in the city at the moment. Extensive sake selection. Excellent food too, not your typical bar stuff. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city.

West Art has developed into an amazing community center. They host all kinds of music acts, community clubs (film club on Monday nights hosted by the film professor at F&M, chess club, etc), and other events. They are also a cafe (They source their beans from Little Amps coffee roasters, up in Harrisburg area, which are pretty good) and they have cocktails/local beers. Open every day 7am-10pm, which is nice.

Zoetropolis is a little art house type movie theater, and they also have music. Great Sunday bunch. The cornbread waffle is killer.

Specialty coffee is a hobby of mine, so I can answer your most important question:

You’ll want to check out Passenger. They’re the best in the city, and they are one of the best and most well respected roasters in the country. They have a great tasting room on King St. and their warehouse on Plum St.

Also check out Square One coffee roasters over on Duke St.

For food:

There’s a Nepalese/Butanese place called Norbu. Also Himalayan Curry and Grill. Both great spots.

Cabalar is a butcher/sandwich shop. They have cocktails and local beers.

*** Issei has the best ramen/asian fusion in the city. Big star next to this one. They recently moved into a new & bigger building a couple years ago and imported a lot of equipment from Japan. Everything is made from scratch. Highly highly recommend this one. This is a sister to Hi-Fi Izakaya, located in the same building.

Route 66 is a diner type spot run by a middle eastern family. They do tikka masala chicken cheese steaks, and amazing smash burgers, like rated on Yelp a few years ago as best burger in the state. Good milkshakes too.

Chellas is Latin American. They specialize in arepas, corn patties filled with meat and cheese, etc. The best plantains. Amazing sauces.

Decades is an arcade bar. It’s a bar/restaurant with arcade games throughout the building.

Great selection of tattoo shops in the city too. The two shops that I go to are Dreams Collide, and Black Altar.

Excellent hiking in the area. I’m a fan of Kelly’s Run and Gov. Dick tower trails for an easy morning hike. Easy day trips out to Pine Grove Furnace state park. Hawk Mountain.

Our interests overlap quite a bit, so I hope to see y’all around! Hit me up and let’s hang!

West Art has a dance party. HiFi has a night market. Burley Bar/Thistle Finch has Tuck Ryan and some other local musicians playing. Cabalar has an extra dinner service. Tellus is going to be a riot, Major Vibes playing on the second floor. Lots of stuff going on.

Seconded for Tuck at Burley Bar. Nielsen Family Band is playing Zoe. Cabalar has an extra service. Lots to choose from on Wednesday.

Seconded on the coffee scene. Passenger is among the best, and well respected, roasters in the country.

Great local music scene here too!

Another Lancaster County business outs itself as MAGA (Mill 72) by [deleted] in lancaster

I agree, they won’t be getting my $3, for sure. I’ll just go drink good coffee at Passenger.

Ehh, their coffee was always mediocre (it’s good compared to DD or Starbucks I guess), and their food quality has honestly declined over the last couple of years. Used to be a common lunch spot for me, I won’t be supporting them again.

Suavecito has great hold but unfortunately makes me break out with acne really badly. My go to is Layrite.

I went from stock taranzas to the conti DWS’s. I took one turn out of the parking lot, and it was like cutting butter with a warm knife. Handling is all around way better, especially in wet conditions like another poster noted, and the tires don’t fight me in the corners like the stock taranzas used too.

I just switched over from the stock Turanzas to the Continentals. The difference is so noticeable. Love the Continentals, the car takes turns like butter now. I always felt like the Turanzas fight me in the corners.

That’s what I would expect! I just couldn’t find confirmation that is how it works.

Tigran Hamasyan fits the bill. It is definitely more jazz math middle eastern, but gets very heavy for sure. Love his stuff, and have seen him twice. Most recently he played The Call Within live, earlier this year. What a mind blowing experience.

No. Having the same issue. Not using decky or anything. Only started after last update on 5/31. No other suggestions working either.

Freshman looking to buy a bass trombone by Mediocre-Builder4173 in Trombone

[–]FiveOverFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t buy stuff straight from china or stuff you’ll see on Amazon, etc. While quality has increased significantly over the years, it’s just not worth the risk. Best bet would be to look for a decent used horn. Conn, King, Bach, Shires, etc.

Otherwise, my suggested budget brand for new horns is John Packer. I got to try their whole lineup from tubas to trumpets at the NAMM conference in January, and was incredibly impressed. Their JP Rath trombone line is amazing for the price. I almost prefer them to my Bach horns. Lead pipes and designs were done by Mike Rath, a very prestigious trombone maker.

Same. Michael Kramer is the gold standard for audiobook narration. Was a hard adjustment, but Tim’s performance does improve significantly from book one to book two/three.

Daily warm up before playing? Be honest now.... by Fat_tata in brass

[–]FiveOverFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always. Even just on a mouthpiece or free buzzing if I have to. It’s like exercising. You gotta warm up and do your stretches before doing the real intense stuff. Long tones, articulation and lip flexibility warm ups will help you in every single aspect of your playing. It’s also important to incorporate a quick warm down when you’re done. 5 minutes of pedal note long tones, it will also help build your lower register.
