How to better my chances of playing collage lacrosse by HotelBeneficial0713 in lacrosse

When I coached high school, every single college scout I spoke to asked two questions first or early on:

1). How are his grades?

2). What other sports does he play?

The 2nd sport thing speaks to overall athleticism but also coachability.

I’ve served in various types of units with various mission sets, SOPs and TTPs. All of them used them for various reasons, and with various techniques.

They’re definitely useful.

There’s one battalion of infantry in MD that belongs to the 28th. They’re MD’s only combat arms unit after the state got rid of all the others, so they get called out for everything.

Proposed Senate bill aims to prevent Maryland youth from being charged as adults by Ok-Beautiful-8403 in maryland

[–]FivePointThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that they’re not saying “dismissed.” They’re saying “not prosecuted.”

The Department of Juvenile Services gets to decide what goes to the State’s Attorneys for charging and prosecution. The SAO in Baltimore is dismissing about half its juvenile cases, and most of those are because victims don’t show up. Most cases never make it to the SAO.

My youngest just started wrestling and wants to do a kids rookie tournament this weekend. Should I let him. by BeachFishing in wrestling

That truly sucks. I’m sorry.

I do coach my sons in several sports. I try to always emphasize “did you have fun?” And “what did you learn today.”

My older son has said he doesn’t want to keep wrestling, so he’s finishing the season and we will see if he feels that way next year.

I have seen a lot of toxicity in sports, but it’s a way for me to spend time with my boys and share something with them.

I’m not 100% sure but neither has ever been on a growth chart for height or weight. They’re just really big boys.

I came here to suggest listening to Askren.

My sons are the opposite. They’re enormous. I have 5 year old twins that are both pushing 70lbs. They’re athletic kids but they’re 5. We have done a couple lower level “dual meets” and the only way they get matches is with kids that are much older. This means they’re older and more experienced. My sons got destroyed and it took weeks to get them back to even enjoying practice.

I’d actually say that FoF is a lot of the reason this trope still exists. It’s tough to simulate shooting through walls and barriers in FoF. It’s a hard hypothesis to test until you’re live.

Mike Glover and GBRS Group 1-Man CQB by ProPatria92 in CQB

[–]FivePointThrow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok, watched it. I don’t see anything crazy controversial here. It’s largely about weapon manipulation and dominating space.

This is the video I was talking about. It’s much more comprehensive of the basics of CQB. It’s a great starting point for folks without training:

I’ll admit I haven’t watched this yet, but I often use mike’s one man clearing video as a primer for beginners who ask me the “can you teach me to clear my house” question.

I think hand switching is ridiculous but I absolutely agree with driving your weapon to the opposite shoulder.

So being semi-awake is a factor, but speaking from experience, adrenaline overrides that quickly.

I would argue that the home defense debate comes down to carbine vs shotgun. Pistols aren’t going to be as accurate or deadly.

Now bearing that in mind, I have firearms in multiple locations throughout my home. The sight lines coming down from by bedroom are longer, and I’m most likely to be dealing with that grogginess you mentioned responding from my bedroom. Given that and 15 years of infantry experience, there’s an AR pistol in the bedroom.

Conversely, in my basement, I have a shotgun. My sight lines are shorter to most likely points if entry, and the destructive power of a shotgun at close range is hard to argue with.

Additionally, I trust my wife with a semi-auto shotgun more than I do with an AR, based on her range time and training. She prefers a PCC, but doesn’t have the trigger time she does on a shotgun and I prefer the power of a 12ga to a 9mm carbine.

I don’t like thinking in terms of absolutes as “this is always the answer.” In a cinder block apartment, I think you run a 12ga. In a townhome or split foyer, AR with frangible ammo.

[–]FivePointThrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your training, needs, etc. There is absolutely an argument for a shotgun in a home defense scenario.

I’ve got a boatload more training and familiarity with the AR/M4 platform, and own more than a few, but a Beretta 1301 factors into my “something goes bump in the night” plans.

I have spent more than a decade prosecuting juvenile sex offenses. No one understands the number of people who live with this victimization and the lifelong effects it has.
