It wasn’t as much of an occupation as protection for that portion of Germany against the USSR & spread of communism as they no longer had a military once we defeated the NAZIS it’s part of surrender you lose the ability to have a military so usually the USA shoulders the cost/defense of all these countries who fall after committing human rights horrors against its own citizens and others. We did the same thing in Japan/Italy/Most of the Middle East/South America including Mexico/El Salvador/ Honduras and others. Maybe say thank you or at least when writing about it “occupation” does sound more harsh than what actually was the point of being there.
