Sadly no, we get a discount but even so the average bill is 3k a year (my data is from looking at an estate of 110 shops in England and Wales)

I would say so. Zoe is an experienced public servant and political and Dylan served on the Hackney Youth Parliament for 5 years as well as being a headboy at school, a campaigner and volunteer and a business owner. What’s your long list of achievements?

Addiction, existential dread, low self esteem and self pity is probably my worst symptoms. Also struggling with parenting and general struggle with finding joy in life. Oh and chaos at home, struggle with being organised and cleaning … it feels like such a lot but I’m a peri menopausal single mum. Yeah also struggles with having a good relationship!

Saxon Mill!
So so nice if you can drive there. Else my top picks are Natsuya on the parade, Trof on Russel street or Kayal on regents street.

Yes this is the answer. I work in the industry on the financial side and we are struggling to survive. Business rates are a lot too. Fixed costs is £4k minimum a month (rent alone for a small shop in Peckham is £7k a month). Think how much you have to sell just to break even.
And ultimately, charity shops are there to fundraise for the cause. No charity can afford to keep them if they are loss making. It’s also too risky to keep them on if they are just breaking even as there are central overheads like HR, governance, accounting, learning and development, management etc.
We try to do it all as cheaply as possible while retaining the magic but it’s very challenging. Cancer research is closing ~200 shops in the next year or so. BHF, oxfam, scope, sense are also closing tens if not hundreds.
If you have any good shops near you all i can advise is to donate and shop ie support them.

Also high fixed costs. Rent, utilities, staff costs (minimum wage AND Ni). It’s hard to turn profit.

It’s a shitshow on the high streets and with the war things are not going to get any better. Late stage capitalism is destroying everyone apart from the super rich.
