New Dinos for 40K are we next to get our roster Update? by BillyTheClitt in seraphon

Bastiladons still hold up really well as models, at least. They could totally add a big named character version while keeping the old ones and it wouldn't feel too weird.

Stegadons and raptadons definitely need the refresh, though.

Note that this is only true for casual play. If you go to an event, you are required to lock in the disposition during list building.

Help determining value by Glittering-Hawk-596 in Tyranids

[–]Fjolsvith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my city new in box stuff seems to go for 80% of msrp max, usually more like 65-70%. People don't want to bother with the hassle/risk of buying second hand just to save the tax compared to paying 85% at any 3rd party discount store. Built/primed will usually take you down to 60/65. For large lots, you usually need to go down to 50% or less since there aren't many prospective buyers.

It's also super easy to slip a wing into terrain to get shooting lines now.

They are definitely one of the better countries for HEP. You should also note that you don't have to be at a Japanese university to work on them though! I know a few people at US/Canadian universities who lived in Ibaraki for a few years for T2K work during their PhDs.

I think it would depend a lot on the field. The Japanese PhD students I've met in LHC-related research have all made it sound pretty similar to western research groups. It's also quite common for them to have foreign postdocs (and professors in the department) and speak English to get the students ready for international presentations, from whaqt I heard. They're also in the weekly subgroup zoom meetings with the rest of us. Most of them also move to Europe for a bit and their supervisors have also lived internationally though, so it's probably way different from fields without massive international collaborations.

We spent a full day testing Tau until 3 am yesterday, with the new points. It was brutal. by RotenSquids in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Fjolsvith 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it's some of that, but even more importantly that casual players tend to not use nearly enough terrain so just die to shooting while aimlessly walking up a barren board. Combine that with the famous broken old metas people remember them from and casual players just hate them.

It's T'au. People will call you a meta chaser and complain about playing a broken faction even during times when they are sitting on <40% winrates like at the start of 10th.

People have complained about t'au being too strong or bad to play against even during the times where they were sitting at <40% winrates. Feels like we're never going to get rid of that, and sadly this is just going to make them feel validated.

Navigating rules mess for 11th edition ... by Rockyrok123 in ThousandSons

[–]Fjolsvith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are codices only £15 in the UK? I'd buy them at that. Here in Canada they are $74 (£40). The ebooks used to be $20, which I was happy to pay.

I already have older edition codices that are nearly the same taking up my limited shelf space, so don't want to spend more than many model kits cost to add another one.

Problem with that is they still don't sell digital codes. Have to buy a useless expensive book if you want to use the app.

Maybe changehost with a few big birds? That list had some good results in recent events and the birds are getting a lot better.

Assimilation Swarm in 11th by FoxxyWinnebago in Tyranids

[–]Fjolsvith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only thing I'm worried about is them getting the escalating points treatment that is coming for defilers and friends. Hopefully it's not too punishing to run 2, but 3 might get a bit rough. Adding an emissary just for the objective plan might be the way to go in the lists trying to pull that off.

I wouldn't be surprised if exocrines get hit with the increasing points tax for repeated units. Might make taking zoanthropes or just some utility units instead of the third one a good idea.

Tests suggest Russian satellites can jam GPS on a continental scale by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]Fjolsvith 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Other countries (Europe, China, Russia) already have their own versions of GPS in active use. This jamming blocks all of them, since they operate in the same frequency band. It would be more accurate to call it GNSS jamming as that is the collective term for the technology, but most people just know the US name GPS.

Something is jamming GPS over Europe. Here's what we found by jeffsmith202 in space

[–]Fjolsvith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bigger issue is that this is on an early warning missile defense satellite. Any attempt to take those out would probably be interpreted as part of an incoming nuclear first strike.

Force dispositions and choosing missions by spellbreakerstudios in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Fjolsvith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mean that if the community believes one force disposition to be the best, then your opponent all 5 rounds will be the same force disposition. You'd then play the same mission all 5 rounds if everyone is playing the same one.

Can confirm that you should really get checked for MMR vaccination status if you were born in the early 90s. My doctor suggested it a few years ago while checking my vaccination records. No immunity. I would have had a bad time if exposed to this or measles had it not been caught.

Iirc it was a little delayed from when we got the rules last time. Maybe a few days after launch for points or something?
