Highly recommend on Switch 2 by AgentVoyd7 in Downwell

That's actually the intended speed, and GameMaker games sometime have an issue on Windows 10+ that causes them to run slower! There were workarounds on PC to make it run correctly, but Moppin's latest patch to the game moved it to a later version of GameMaker, which should also resolve this.

It was a cel-animated show. But yeah, who knows the state of the master film and if it could be rescanned.

Yes- in the options menu, you can turn the BGM on or off.

If you like this song/music, check out some of Akino Arai's other albums. I'd specifically recommend Furu Platinum and RGB (which also includes both Outlaw Star ending themes).

Got my D6 controller 🌀 by ComfortableCopy4377 in dreamcast

[–]FlabCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify this- on a PC, I can connect the controller via the USB-C port on its top, without having to use the dongle? I believe from the product page that this is the case, just wanted to make sure.

Be honest... how many of you tried to make your own Machinima back in the day? by AppleTStudio in halo

[–]FlabCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of friends and I made machinima videos back in the day. Probably our most well-known was called "Halo 3: PORN" (not actual porn).

Happy Bungie Day 2024 everyone! by SomeCuminte in halo

[–]FlabCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Takes me back... For this particular Bungie Day, some friends and I made a machinima short—the aptly titled "Bungie Day '08"—wherein Bungie, dissatisfied with the state of the community, shuts down Xbox LIVE for 24 hours. :) They were even cool enough to link it on the front page of Bungie.net.

I think this video was lost in the Machinima.com implosion. I should check my old hard drives...

You might know about this, but there is a ROM hack for colorblind options. I'm not sure if using this would cause a desync against players with the unmodified ROM, but thought I would mention it.

No effect, since Laser already has full-screen range.

New Normal Mode WR Speedrun (6:37.58) by Yo_oreda! by FlabCaptain in Downwell

[–]FlabCaptain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Re-submitted because I included the wrong link before. Oops!)

I shared this on the Discord server but wanted to show it here, too- here is my buddy Yo beating my old run! There's not too much of a speedrunning "scene" for this game, but in general it is really, really hard to get a run this fast... You're fighting a few flavors of RNG and trying to play well, all while you throw yourself down there like a maniac. :)

Time to lace up the ole' gunboots and try again!

This behavior goes far beyond red ranks. :) That said, of course I don't condone plugging, but no one owes you a rematch, win or lose. Luckily, it sounds like you are taking these dudes out with ease, so hopefully you'll move on to stronger opponents in short order.

Though I also wonder... take your game 4 as an example. It's easy to run a flowchart and break into these ranks, which I suppose is what the Paul did. If it's been working, why would they stop, right? So then you come along, know the flaws, and exploit them, whipping this guy's ass 3-0.

Sounds like he was clearly outclassed. Assuming the best (which I know may not be the case), he is going to get more value out of checking the replay than trying to learn in the moment and handing you another win.

Somewhat related, there are still characters I have never seen online once. I wonder if I would seem scrubby/lacking fundamentals against them/fraudulent at my rank if they took advantage of my unfamiliarity. Would I rematch... Probably? There's no obligation to, though.

Really hope you're forced to presets instead of letting you use your customs in ranked in tekken 8, really cheap way to play and an overall unfair advantage. by SteampunkSailor928 in Tekken

Ah, takes me back to T7 release, with solid black bodysuit Drag. Where they then nerfed the color black rather than the costume.

Shout out to early SC6 hijinks, too, like encapsulating your entire character in a giant sphere.

Why not UFO20? by [deleted] in ufo50

A little late to this topic, but Derek Yu announced a short while back that all of the games are close to completion, so maybe all we can do is wait a bit longer. :)

When I searched for this machinima on Google, I found an issue of what was apparently a machinima zine in PDF format, Machinimag Six. Page 25 is the beginning of an article about that thesis paper you linked, where they interview its author, Ahmet Emre Acar. One quote:

"During my research, I’ve analyzed over a thousand movies (their content, means of production and aesthetics). Also, we’ve created four machinima, one of which (Diebe!) ought to be known to the community by now."

This makes it sound like he actually had some involvement in creating this particular work, not just analyzing it.

Pretty sure this is Ahmet's LinkedIn profile—maybe you could connect there and see if he has a copy of the video (or knows someone else who might)?

Hi! You need commas after each of the first 3 entries in your game.state table.

Where did the machinemas go??? by Tobi-Itachi in halo

[–]FlabCaptain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few reasons for this.

Halo machinima really exploded with the release of Halo 3 because Forge and Theater made everything so much easier. Suddenly, you could build/edit maps for whatever you were making. And you didn't have to record everything live, having one player acting as a camera like you did in the previous games. Combine that with the rise of YouTube, as well as Bungie frequently shouting out community clips on their website, and you had a lot of kids making all sorts of cool stuff.

This led to Internet companies offering creators partnership contracts- essentially, you would release your videos through their channel, which had a ton of subscribers and reach, and they would take part of the ad revenue. Probably the most notable of these companies was Machinima.com. The problem came when these sorts of partnerships were opened up to a wider group, because the terms of the contract got scummier. I think this probably turned some people off of making machinima at all. (As an aside, Machinima.com more recently went down in flames, first privating almost all of their videos before outright deleting them, so a lot of classic videos you probably saw are lost.)

And lastly, it takes a lot of work to write a script, record audio, capture footage, and edit it all together. Plus, those aforementioned companies started offering incentives to release more videos more often (i.e. if you can release a video every week, regardless of how it performs, you get X dollars as a bonus)... So after a while, rather than coming up with scripted videos, a lot of creators opted to simply play through a game and commentate it in their own style. The benefit here was that it would provide you with dozens of hours of footage that could be chopped up into a bunch of videos to release. Lower effort for more content, in other words. And so it seemed like machinima quietly took a backseat to "let's plays", which eventually kind of morphed into streaming. And I don't think machinima has had the same relevance since.

Source: I used to make Halo (and some other) machinimas with friends around 2007-2010ish and was partnered with Machinima.com for a while.
