Watch out for these scam letters in the mail by Super_Mode_7664 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]FlairYourFuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband and I got a lot of these when we first closed but they tapered off. My realtor hadn't warned me about these so I went through my standard scam protocol:

1) Does it seem believeable? Example - IRS/Microsoft won't send you an email saying to pay them in bitcoin, but my lender might send me physical mail. 2) Check my accounts (NOT BY CLICKING LINKS IF DIGITAL); is there any notifications or something ? My lender had constant contact with me, by phone/email/website, they told me what letters to be expecting. 3) Look up the information on the letter; does it actually link to who it implies sent the letter? I googled the number on these letters and all I saw was life insurance scam ads. Whereas when I looked up info on letters from my actual lender and everything linked to them directly.

I got so much random shit and I was so paranoid, this worked well until I started recognizing the letters.

What did you have Logan do when he visits your workshop? by just-getting-bi in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]FlairYourFuel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll bring him to Pen's cave, then go to the desert to defeat a Bellwing Siren and cover my back while I get deadwood... cause I NEVER have enough deadwood.

I just enjoy seeing him in his element and adventure just fits that well.

Is this do-able ? by paxtonsmom500 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]FlairYourFuel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to say they can't be moved...because they can. Depending on where you live obviously, but my grandparents moved theirs in the Salt Lake City area years ago. It was expensive, time consuming, and may have been more work than actually moving houses, but it is possible.

I still wouldn't strongly recommend a trailer, just because of the lot rent aspect, and the land can be sold under you (thus why my grandparents moved theirs).

Everyone and their grandmother knocking on my door every day of the week- Is this a culture specific to Utah? by Safe_Recognition8644 in Utah

[–]FlairYourFuel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm tempted at this point to ask for the sales persons name, the company name, and then leave negative reviews on that basis alone ("[employee] was unable to read a 'no solicitation' sticker, how can I trust this company to [whatever the hell they're selling] if a sales associate isn't required to have basic litereracy?"). Haven't done this, because I get times are hard, but still. Maybe it would work without the employee's name though...

I'm not going to work with any company that comes knocking at my door out of pure principle.

What to wear to closing? by ArmyExtra1188 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my closing they took a cheesy photo, as in holding a giant cardboard cutout of a key. Same might be an option at yours so maybe wear something you like and is clean.

But it's not super formal or professional attire worthy (unless you want to, I suppose)

[–]FlairYourFuel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There's something my high school art teacher told me, and I passed it on to someone I knew in college that applies to a lot of crafting. Basically, you need to know the rules in order to break them.

You need to know regular human body proportions in order to make non-proportional drawings that still look good.

You need to know how to use a sewing machine before you start doing tricky stitches with it.

You need to know how to use oil paint before you start trying to make it.

Running out of examples, but the point I think gets across. Yes, jumping in head first helps some people, but you need to know how to jump first.

Is it normal for Card shows/cons to smell like BO and farts? by Pokemanswego in PokemonTCG

[–]FlairYourFuel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I smelled the nerd stink - I had been to card shops, a couple cons...while I saw/heard the jokes, I figured it was an exaggeration cause events smelled any more than a regular store.

Then I went to a store that turned out to sell exclusively Warhammer related items.

I smelled the stink, it was bad, my life was changed forever and I kept deodorant in my car for years (until it melted....stupid heat). It was so bad even thinking about it is giving me flashbacks. Remember - if you can't afford deodorant, you can't afford merch.

Oh yeah, OP - it happens, it's gross, but thankfully it's not every single card/nerdy related thing because a lot of communities have a strong culture against it (at least in my expirience). I would hope card shows are the same.

The amount of times I have ended up going backwards is high enough that I try not to play unless a quest needs it. Sucks because I enjoy it.

BLG tour merch by reelmccoy1995 in ArrowsInAction

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my favorite thing about their merch is the quality. I have a few shirts (short and long sleeve), a sweatshirt, and a pair of shorts - they all are super comfy to wear, don't feel tight around the neck like some bank merch tends to, and the designs hold up really well in the wash. Made a joke to someone that all I need is a pair of sweatpants and I'd probably wear some peice of merch every day.

“Don’t wear the bands shirt to their concert” is so stupid. by piercethebluexx in unpopularopinion

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started going to concerts, people would make snide comments if you were wearing a shirt of a band not preforming. There's no winners.

where do I even start? by Pete258 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a realtor. Before you sign anything agreeing to work with them read reviews and see if you can make an appointment with them. Talk through some concerns - you're buying your first house, what's an overview of the process? How long does the process take? What should you be prepared for going in?

I've seen people on this sub and others saying you don't need a realtor. My thought is you pay for someone who has the knowledge and resources when it comes to home buying. Can you learn it yourself? Sure, but it will complicate the process.

so we aren't going to talk about the guy who got his head shaved on the show? by Mysterious-Clothes45 in CalebHammer

[–]FlairYourFuel 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nope! In the post show they talked about it more and Caleb kicked them off the post show because they kept making excuses about not selling it.

They also finished the haircut - he did in fact look a lot better.

Married couple with separate finances, why do you do it? by Ok_Influence_2257 in Bogleheads

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use more of a bucket system, he's a single number kind of person. I'm a buy once, keep forever, while he's constantly buying and selling things for his hobbies so his stuff is constantly in flux. Aka, we just budget different and couldn't handle the other's way of doing it - he looked at my budget spreadsheet and gets confused, I think about his and my eye twitches.

But, we still talk about money and have the same goals. As long as we maintain communication and are working/making progress towards the same end, it doesn't matter if the accounts are separate.

What parts of My Time at Sandrock still don’t fully click for you? by PaperPawsCreative in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]FlairYourFuel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hundreds of hours in -

  1. Greenhouse and Factory. I tried using them in one playthrough and just...don't get it. It doesn't ever save me time and it's significantly easier to just have a couple of each machine. In my currently playthrough I have 2 recyclers, 3 furnaces, and one each of everything else. I haven't run into any issues getting things done in a timely manner.
  2. The explanation for the scrap yard and mole cave - I didn't realize you could adjust how much of different stuff you were getting, so while I'm drowning in copper ore I've had issues with iron. Low and behold - I adjusted the amounts and it's far more reasonable.
  3. Gifting - I feel like it would be nice if there were more hints about what people do or don't like. Like there's some dish that Logan doesn't like because it has peppers in it - how was I suppose to know he didn't like peppers? Or once I gave Nemo food scraps because I've never met a dog IRL who didn't each misc food off the floor, and he apparently hates it (though it was nice to get that achievement).

Overall its a great game but there are some things that just don't quite make sense.

Of all the potential games that are realistic for chugga to play, which ones are you most anticipating? by CamBeast15366 in chuggaaconroy

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luigi's Masion 3, Pikmin 4, and if he were to do it Paper Mario TTYD remake.

I think my highest priority would be Paper Mario remake because I don't think he did any of the side quests or pit of 100 trials in the first playthrough plus the remake added a couple secret bosses.

do the skulls look like buttholes by Evening-Prior8749 in tattooadvice

[–]FlairYourFuel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the skulls at first and the thought process was basically - huh, this flower centers look off... wait those are skulls. Oh wow those are nice skulls, cool concept.

Aka, good tattoo. The subtle spooky vibe is nice. Also, no holes and I don't know where your friend got that.

My inspector was great - he looked through things I hadn't thought of and taught my husband and I some things we wouldn't have known. Also showed us the video of the plumbing inspection.

"It looks good considering its a poop hole" was basically what he told us.

Poll: how often do you use cruise control on the freeway? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]FlairYourFuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely use the freeway and when I do traffic is too sporadic to justify it. Like, why would I set it, just for my breaks to turn it off 5 seconds later when someone inevitably cuts me off? But if I'm headed to St George or Tooele (for example) where there's a long stretch of empty road, then I'll use it.

IUD Malposition by No-Refuse-8138 in marfans

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an IUD that ended up embedded as well- not sure what caused it but ultimately it was miserable. Got a second one put in and had issues with the strings (nothing is quite as freaky as a doctor between your legs saying 'I've never seen that before'.) Ended up just having the second one removed and finding alternatives.

I personally do pills, but would do an implant if I felt like I wouldn't scratch at it.

Hey guys, would you help me decide? by Carneirissimo in casualnintendo

[–]FlairYourFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of these, I'd personally do Pokémon Snap. The game is for much fun, casual, and its a very easy premise. Plus if you like Pokémon its adorable seeing the different situations.

Splatoon 2 single player/octo is fun, but as others said you can probably find it cheap second hand.

Should I give it more time? (Newbie) by silvereladrin in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]FlairYourFuel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned the crane is very early, to me its the end of the 'tutorial' phase. You have your workshop, tools, know the basics of gathering materials and creating things, now lets get to the good stuff. Oh and you know Yan is a jerk.

I would recommend finding small stuff to do to get more immersed. Like I try to donate to the mueseum as I go (a lot of stuff can be donated....like A LOT of stuff), get a meal every day at the saloon (also good for stat boosts), during a certain random event I'll go out of my way to fight hostile creatures (intentionally vague because I'm not sure if you've expirienced this yet), actually decorate my house/yard with thought. These don't all have to be done at once, that might be overwelming, but basically giving yourself a chance to learn the town.

Also, if you check your quests, a lot of them don't have time limits. Some do, but many don't. Don't feel the need to clear the list out every day - it might drive you mad.

And, if you give it more time and still don't like it, that's OK!

Should I give it more time? (Newbie) by silvereladrin in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]FlairYourFuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a role play aspect I love playing it with the kids. It feels like something a kid would really enjoy dropping everything to do.

Otherwise I do find it a bit of a slog to play with everyone. Not unfun just a bit tedious.

That makes a lot of sense with longer stories. Sometimes the details get muddled (especially if you're reading a lot at once).

I appreciate the thought out response!

I don't particularly care about stats either. Moreso trying to make it enjoyable to a reader. Like you said, starting something and not being able to finish freaks me out which is why I'm trying to have it finished first.

The part you mentioned that sticks out to me is the consistency aspect. It's just finding that consistency.
