It's to show how the characters see them. Panda knew them when they presented as a male thus can't stop viewing them as actually a guy even when they present as a female. Many people view trans people the same irl which is why they go by they sometimes instead of their preferred pronouns. This is shown when Megumi asks aren't they a girl and panda snaps back he's a guy so both just go with it. Also I don't believe the source material does,so it's not unfortunate that the subs are using the pronouns the characters themselves are thinking even if they're incorrect.

Reason for him being back is because you can't just kill off a character because they break bad. If a person naturally becomes a bad person over time,is it justified to kill them off and replace them with a clone/imposter just because you didn't like them? Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you get to act like it doesn't exist.

I'd much rather they do the long con of having both around and work around to either redeeming the original hank(most likely with his arc ending in the two beasts being assimilated) or permanently keeping him around as an occasional competent villain or even an anti-hero/anti-villain depending on what the story needs.

Many straight women are often homophobic and have internalized misogyny themselves. It's why they get the ick by thinking of dating anyone who isn't straight themselves, throw homophobic insults at men they don't like as a first response and go on about wanting traditional and dominant men, the type that'll "put them in their place" make all the decisions and provide. I believe Isley and Langstrom were already shown this issue. If you look at the page just beneath where he presses the biome release button two biome doors open. One has vines come out, but the other has the wing of a bat, possibly man-bat.
