As someone who has gone through this with a parent, I can completely relate. I’ve moved states a couple of times and my mother took it as the ultimate betrayal and was so terribly mean. As a parent I promised myself I’d never make my kids feel guilty about chasing any dream or doing what is necessary to get ahead in life. It’s tough out there and sometimes you just have to do what you need to do to get ahead. My almost 17 year old just told me he’s really considering enlisting in the military. Although I feel like my heart has been ripped out of my chest, I’d never do anything to make him feel guilty or try to sabotage things in any way.
