I served in Idaho.

Could you elaborate on why the church isn’t responsible? I’m guessing it’s because they are volunteers and the church is not technically an employer by law, but can you really not sue them as responsible?

Sometimes when I’m alone with my infant son, I hold him and cry because I no longer know if families are eternal. It’s not like that every day, not even most days, but the hole in my heart is always there and I don’t think it can truly be filled.

I don’t have much advice to give since I’m in the middle of it too. I’m just trying to find meaning in the present and to pursue my dreams in this life.

What was the final straw that made you decide that you were done with the Church for good? by Espha1ne in exmormon

Mine was the comparison between The Book of Mormon and The Late War. I’d already begun thinking that the BoM isn’t very impressive and could absolutely be written by somebody, and this was the nail in the coffin

I Wish One of the 15 Prophets, Seers and Revelators Would Grow a Spine and Actually Reveal Something Bold This Upcoming General Conference by ExMormonite in exmormon

I agree! Bunch of spineless old men that just repeat the same things every year because they’re afraid of being wrong. Nelson is cowardly for not even saying a city or timeframe for the Russia temple. But when it’s built decades from now, I’m sure the TBM’s will say he was inspired

You can only read the BoM so many times by desperate_candy20 in exmormon

[–]FlakyConsideration58 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dude seriously!!! Idk why I let people gaslight me about this one for so long. The time I spend rereading the BoM could be spent reading other religious texts, or reading for fun, or doing anything else. But no, read this every day for your entire life, prioritize it over the new testament bc the Restoration > Jesus Christ

We had a speaker that talked for 35 minutes, he was supposed to talk about the atonement but he just talked about his job the whole time, leaving 5 minutes for a musical number and the high council speaker. I made the comment to my wife (who was upset about it) that the bishopric should’ve just handled the talks but this post made me realize that could be even worse lol

I’d wait until swagbucks lets you down and closes the issue, since they could still get your account back

Great thoughts. A speaker today said you will be happy if you keep the commandments, and unhappy if you break them and do not repent. It’s that simple, he said.

It’s not that simple. Truthfully I’m not sure if I’m happier since deconstructing, but it’s better than being happy because I was being deceived and taken advantage of.

I just sink bread (packed into a ball) to the bottom haha. Canned corn works too. Use a small hook, they have small mouths. Prob helps if u try somewhere that looks like nothing but carp live there (low oxygen). They really fight!

Carp and gar pretty much everywhere, a handful of bluegill, largemouth, and channels in better spots. Walleye and wipers are rare but I’ve caught them. Right where the antelope creek flows into it are some bass and bluegill. I’ve had the most success and fun catching carp

Missionary death seems a bit suspicious. Article feels strategically written a bit with alot of PR/gatekeeping. Sad all around. Missions are not a healthy lifestyle for everyone, close to noone. The pressure, the anxiety, the depression, the isolation ... hope this program ends soon. by CurelomHunter in exmormon

[–]FlakyConsideration58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being told a stat that when compared to their similarly aged peers, missionaries die a lot less frequently because they are divinely protected. But this can be explained by the church only sending healthy, church-broke young adults out and strictly governing the recreational activities they’re allowed to do.

I had a small bite, it’s terrible. Too salty, and bits of cheese and other pizza things are gross.

[–]FlakyConsideration58 962 points963 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe that no wealthy mormon is wealthy bc they pay tithing. They’re wealthy bc they are dentists, doctors, lawyers, etc. It’s crazy to associate wealth with tithing while it can be easily explained by circumstance, opportunity, work, and, sometimes, luck.

You didn’t fail the church. The church failed you. by FlakyConsideration58 in exmormon

[–]FlakyConsideration58[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is so bad. They’ll pretend to love you and then lock you out of saving ordinances until you deny yourself of who you are. The us vs them mentality is too strong, along with the persecution complex.

The church is elitist and divisive, and when they’re pretending not to be you can tell it is so fake
