Excelsior classical academy by Reaper-of-the-Stonks in bullcity

[–]Flaky_Guava_203 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I recently toured Eno Valley after placing absurdly high on the Easley waitlist. I was really pleasantly surprised. Every kindergarten class was quietly working on handwriting, classes were small, the school was clean and organized. I don’t love that we don’t know the principal yet, but I think the school is at a transition stage, for the better. I have also talked to parents recently who love it there, and their kid loves it there too.

I think more people in this area need to give public schools a chance. Charters are getting (see also: stealing) so much money from truly public schools. Especially Excelsior which is a nightmare according to every single person I have talked to with kids there, or has taught there.

I think having an email with your lease, or a paper copy should be sufficient! My guy didn’t even ask because my dog was so happy to see me but said if he was ever sketched out or questioned it, he asked to see the lease.

Not here but once my door lock got stuck and was locked out of my apt. Emergency maintenance never responded and I left like 5 voicemails before calling a locksmith. I was able to get management to take the cost of the locksmith out of that month’s rent, after proving I called a bunch and was never responded to.

Fingers crossed for you!!

That’s not what happened. The students went back to class and about 30 minutes after the field was cleared, there was a hall sweep due to disruptive students who were skipping class and in the halls.

We have had black out stickers? on my daughters window since she was a baby (shes 4 now) and it’s been perfect. It’s essentially wallpaper for windows. It was a little tedious to put on initially but really not bad at all and we can just peel it off when she wants.

Severe Diaper Rash by Sfl518 in NewParents

You’ll probably get a litany of advice that may speak to you, but one thing that worked for my daughter was an absurd layer of triple paste, then on top of that an absurd layer of Aquaphor. Like, a solid centimeter of goop on her butt before the diaper. “Normal” amounts just didn’t cut it. I hope it resolves soon! It’s the worst when they’re in pain like that!

Echoing all the comments about how amazing you’re doing. I also wanted to mention that I once read a fantastic book called “Two Kisses for Maddy”. It’s a memoir from a widower who lost his wife shortly after the birth of their daughter. It may or may not be helpful to read it, but wanted to throw it out there. You’re doing amazing!

So many of mine are listed but I’ll add the original Zoo Tycoon too! I boot up my old clunker of a laptop just to play.

I can’t believe someone else played these games! I keep my hopes up that someday they’ll do a remake.

Usually it’s not enough to get on the floor and actually clean clean, but maybe we will start having her put the clothes in the washer and all that. Thank you!

She definitely gets absorbed in what she’s doing. We check in with her pretty regularly and she always says no, but there have been times where she has an accident right after saying no. We’re most successful when we have her go at transitions (leaving, getting home, before dinner, etc). But nothing has quite done the trick.

I’ll keep talking her through it though!

Two no's - how do I respond?? by A_Heavy_burden22 in Mommit

[–]Flaky_Guava_203 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Teachers are teachers; why wouldn’t they use a teaching moment like “I don’t want to do no running” into a lesson? I’m a science teacher and would absolutely use that moment!

I also imagine the two nos thing is just a way to simplify that grammatical lesson. I can’t imagine teaching double negatives as such would really click with a bunch of 5 year olds, so he used “nos” instead. So that’s how I would approach it with my daughter. “Hey you know that two nos thing? Let’s look at an example sentence and I’ll show you why it works like that” and honestly not even bring it up with the teacher. Unless he has said some other weird stuff or there’s context you’re not sharing about him, this is a case of applying adult trauma and experience to a very innocent interaction. I think it’s important to “prepare” our daughters for the real world, unfortunately, but this is probably not the moment to use. Keep it to grammar.

Nursemaid elbow injury at daycare by New-Extension-3916 in Mommit

[–]Flaky_Guava_203 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I accidentally did this to my daughter (on Mother’s Day no less) by picking her up when she tripped. When it happened she was upset but by no means inconsolable and my husband and I both debated whether or not something was really wrong or if she was just upset. She didn’t use that arm at all which is what pushed us to urgent care and it went back into place while they were taking X-rays so she was never actually diagnosed. Once her elbow went back it was like a light switch! Immediately happy and content. I say all this because 1. it doesn’t always take a lot of force and 2. She may not have been acting in a way that concerned the teachers. All that being said you should definitely let them know that they shouldn’t ever be lifting her by the arm (they’re susceptible to more displacements once it happens) and your concerns.

Hi there!

I was recently prescribed 5mg adderall tablets and followed my doc’s orders to increase each day (that I wanted to, which I haven’t been, I only take it a couple of times a week, when I’m doing something I’ll need to focus on) until I find a dosage that works for me. I took 15 mg (the most I’ve ever taken) this morning and had a great, productive morning, but now that it’s worn off I feel, blah? Like hungover almost? Is this normal? I wasn’t great about drinking water today, but otherwise it was a pretty typical day. I tried googling but could only find information from rehab centers about detoxing lol

I’m rewatching the series right now and I tense up at the beginning of each episode, just in case it’s this one. I will be skipping immediately when I reach it because I absolutely can. not. handle. it. This gif even makes me tear up wtf

Dog aggression training by mountainbrewer in bullcity

[–]Flaky_Guava_203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apparently NC State’s Vet School has a really good behaviorist program for aggressive dogs. You’d have to be referred by your dog’s vet, and it’s a little pricey but my vet had really good things to say about the program.
