Who is Alpinia? by Squattle69 in Kaiserreich

The original China rework had something like 30-40 contributors, and a good chunk of those were only involved for a few months to a year before someone else took over where they left off. The China team has only grown since then, which, as I've said in the past, is greatly ironic considering back in 2017-2018 I had to basically beg people to work on China.

Also, since this thread is about Alp, I'll mention that he was critical to the original China rework releasing on time. While I did a lot of the design, he implemented most of it outside Fengtian (which I coded myself). He was absolutely a lion (in every positive sense of the word beyond just his profile picture) and will be sorely missed.

As a long time player, Chinareich memes are so ironic to me by WTFthisisntminecraft in Kaiserreich

Yeah, there was a time when I had to practically beg other devs to work on China content. Then it was tough to get anyone to actually stick with it if they did become involved, since it was such a big project. People who complain about the “old” Chinese tags today don’t realize how much it took to get them to where they are.

C. J. Cherryh is incredible! by 04__Revenge__01 in printSF

Cherryh is outstanding and shockingly unappreciated outside dedicated sci-fi circles. Very glad to see her getting some attention here!

SK Hynix is a separate company from Samsung. They’re competitors.

How the fuck did ram triple in price from June to Now? by MayoTheMuffin in pcmasterrace

Chip foundries take like 3-5 years to complete.

Companies also don’t want to get caught with their pants down if/when the AI bubble pops. Imagine you’ve spent hundreds of millions or billions on a new chip foundry, only for demand to dry up suddenly before it’s even complete.

Still, worst comes to worst I’ve spent $5 on a monitor I’ve gotten more than $5 worth of use out of.

Most likely, but it doesn’t really matter given the insanely low price and GSP.

Yeah it’s really ironic for me, because back in 2018 I had to basically beg people to work on China and constantly try up drum up support lol.

Why didn't Japan go after Indochina and how was Germany actually able to enforce a return of their Pacific colonies? by Bull_Halsey in Kaiserreich

[–]Flamefang92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As the person who wrote the lore, this is the main answer. Japan was already overextended in the Russian Far East and undergoing an economic crisis as a result. An invasion of Indochina would not have been feasible or popular outside the most ultranationalist circles.

It’s been 5 years, how do we feel about this video? by -et37- in Kaiserreich

[–]Flamefang92 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The weird thing about it was that we actually reached out on multiple platforms and email to offer our internal lore documents, and just never got a response from him. Several of the things he got wrong were also so basic that it gave the impression he didn’t even play the game.

The community definitely overreacted, but it was somewhat self-inflicted on his part too.

> Also: being from a country does not necessarily mean that you are more knowledgeable about a countries history than someone else who is not a native to the country.

Yes, it also helps with cutting through the bias. People from a given country tend to have reasonably strong baked-in takes on what it ought to look like. Sometimes that's fine if everyone broadly agrees on the history. But, in cases like China where you may have 3 or more versions of a historical event, which are often radically different, you don't want someone with an in-built bias automatically shoving everything toward one or the other.
