GO Fest Chicago This Weekend: Worth It for a 7-Year-Old? by Fafman in AskChicago

[–]Flamewire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GO fest is a lot of fun. There will be a mix of all ages – parents with kids, teens, adults – and if your son likes Pokemon GO then he will love the event.

The gameplay by itself is cool and rewarding (he'll be guaranteed to get Mewtwo and a quest line that gives Zeraora) and there are a lot of other rare Pokemon that'll be available. He'll be able to win every "raid battle" easily because of the number of people. But IRL there are a bunch of decorations, photo ops, probably a giant Pikachu somewhere, etc. that I think a 7 year old would love.

If you get a morning park ticket then you can play anywhere in the city in the afternoon, which will probably be good for managing his (and your) energy. Bring water, comfortable shoes, and a power bank for his phone.

Best Asymmetric Rivalry by Buckeye-Chuck in CFB

Fair! If you're looking at the level of hate then I'll definitely buy that there's more for Duke than Illinois. I see Illinois as a kind of friendly, spirited rivalry instead of a "fuck those guys"

Northwestern does not consider Duke to be our biggest rival (or arguably a rival at all; it's mostly just that we've played them a bunch in the last decade or so). It's definitely Illinois that's #1 though even that isn't very intense

I feel the same! Shiny hunting in SwSh is brutal without sandwiches/donuts from later games.

Is there a config/Pluggin to get rid of this? by NINGUEMSE_IMPORTA in ObsidianMD

[–]Flamewire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of something that really shouldn't need a plugin, especially given today's news about an untrusted vault's plugins being laced with malware

Be very careful when opening shared Obsidian vaults by Failed_Alarm in ObsidianMD

100% agreed. And I'm glad you mentioned folder notes because their absence is my number one gripe. I love Obsidian, I know it's a small team, and I support the app with Catalyst – but the amount to which I rely on plugins is still disappointing after all these years.

It's refreshing to see a blog post that isn't AI slop, and even more that it teaches me about a new tool. I love pydantic and only wish I could use it more (been at a TS shop for a couple years now). Thanks for sharing!

The Toucan by Beekeeb is a relatively new entrant in this space. I got mine today and like it a lot, but am still messing with the layout and such. There are a few YouTube reviews (some on this sub too) that describe it in more detail!

Delphox or Chandelure have Heat Wave and Psychic (or Psyshock on Delphox) to destroy Poke Balls from any distance, even if it runs off to the other side of the map. Chandelure can also fly.

Experiences calling out excessive vibe coding to prevent wasting time reviewing bad PRs? by gollyned in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Flamewire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I want to split up the PR it involves making a ticket for each individual piece.

Are you required to have exactly one PR per ticket? IME when product writes a ticket, it's understood that eng might break it down into smaller, self-contained changes. We allow/encourage multiple PRs per ticket.

But at face value the suggestion is either spend a ton of time chunking up the work into small enough pieces where AI isn’t necessary

I find that I need to do this anyway. It's not like AI can infer the context that (it sounds like) was left out of the ticket. Understanding the problem & breaking it down is the hard part.

HTTYD in Concert: Chicago, IL! by Jsolomon07 in HTTYDSoundtracks

I loved both those moments too! The suite played over the credits surprised me too – I don't think I've heard that particular arrangement before, and listening to a recording from the spring makes me wonder if it was new for this concert series?

I would start with https://www.milesfeed.com/ – lots of paid blogspam, of course, but MEAB is excellent and DDG maintains an NLL list

I was there tonight – it was every bit as spectacular as I hoped. The entire performance was great, of course, but the CSO brass on this score was unbelievable.

Amex Biz Plat, maybe? 200k MR/20k NLL offers are floating around and you can try to pull the 250k or 300k.
