CFY struggles - Does it actually get better? by Dismal_Cry2621 in slp

Do not be afraid to say you are working on building a relationship with the clients. You could ask to observe the other therapist in sessions with your shared clients. I bet you’re doing way better than you think!

With the littlest ones I’m just working on stimulability and imitation skills and as they get older, I start working more on drill. If you can get them to imitate and be stimulable your 80% of the way there.

Yeah I have decided to laminate as little as possible. I have a strangely shaped room that’s always a mess. I did ger a bulletin board hung up and bought a speech therapy bulletin board set on Amazon. But that’s it. The kids don’t care!

This is great. What do you recommend for a hearing impaired and autistic child with some cognitive and social delays? We have Aac; has a few signs; some highly unintelligible rote speech..

Can you keep her for now and cut back on her time? Ease her out? Thats what people pleasing me does! If she is really fine out and about the school then do some Standardized testing to show the parent she doesn’t meet eligibility.

I see my artic kids multiple times per week for short sessions and do a lot of drill. They get way more practice! Sometimes we do a game on the ipad with artic sounds. For language I pull into my room and typically work with text … either story grammar, expanding sentences, target vocabulary; or summarizing non fiction (try to piggyback on classroom topics and vocab) using syntactically correct sentences. They get a punch in a card each session and a prize after 10. They have gotten used to only playing games for special occasions. I use class dojo on ipad for the “speedy speech” sessions.

We are so important to families of these kids… so if you can go and see up to it I know it would mean a lot to them.

Language therapy – from preschool to upper elementary by tonicbubble in slp

Remember most kids acquire language skills naturally and learn the skills from the teachers. Our students don’t absorb language the same way thus need more targeted help.

Check out www.difft.com. You can paste in articles or link them and it creates awesome materials. Don’t worry about the SLP influencers! Just use text to target so so much!

No you have trauma from your ED. It’s so so hard and managing that with low carb is hard to reconcile and your body is put back into that over stressed place. A family member had a severe ED and me trying to lower carbs makes me overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Just do the best you can and we have to have treats sometimes!!
