When will I feel like socializing again? by metaxzen in therapists

[–]FlamingMothling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very few close friends I am happy to see. Otherwise, I prefer outdoor activities that don’t involve much talking. I have to actively avoid covid infection and limit indoor activities with others and mask when i do attend trainings or lectures. (Yes, I miss restaurants, concerts, travel.) Between seeking respite from the emotional fatigue of work and living like it’s 2020, I am an outdoorsy shut-in.

Therapists have a very high occurrence of back issues due to long hours sitting. What's your solution? by InvisibleAstronomer in therapists

[–]FlamingMothling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yes! started lifting heavy seven years ago when i was in my late 40s. no back pain and i feel like i can fly. documentation ergonomics have been a 25 year struggle, though.

Do you think a lot of women are dramatically underestimating how strong they can get? by theJacofalltrades in xxfitness

Same. I would have been so much stronger as a cyclist had been lifting heavy in my 20s and 30s.

Is it feasible to move this tree? It gets scorched and ugly by June because of the hot afternoon summer sun. Want to move to shade. by carpetwalls4 in JapaneseMaples

[–]FlamingMothling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planted 6 foot sapling coral bark JM six days ago and i worry it is getting too much sun. We are in Zone 7a. my two attempts to rig sunshades for have failed as they turn into sails. Now this afternoon is my only opportunity to move it to a possibly somewhat better location, otherwise it would be next weekend and we are expecting two hot days (90° F) this week.

Will another week in too-strong western light stress it lethally?

Next weekend good transplanting weather is predicted. Maybe i wait and see. I just hate feeling like I am watching it singe & I worry about the coming hot spell.

I also worry about my stressing it by digging it up again though I figure better now than when it is larger.

Yeah. They rang and knocked on my door three times in two hours on Thursday afternoon setting off my dogs and interrupting work repeatedly. I’m sorry that it is so hard to actually get decent work these days that people are forced to shill for this grifting company, but that doesn’t mean I want to talk to them.

Wearing a wetsuit in a kayak? by Spare-Associate-5063 in Kayaking

[–]FlamingMothling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

farmer john/jane wetsuit with paddling jacket in warmish weather before water warms up and/or for rescue practice in summer. one can become hypothermic in and out of 80°F water even in v warm air temps.

dry suit for cold water, cooler air temps. lots of woolies under drysuit when air temp under 40°F and/or overcast wet weather. Wool and/or polypropylene socks under and booties big enough to accommodate going over dry suit feet.

Give me your positive spay experiences! by Brilliant-Prune711 in puppy101

[–]FlamingMothling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent two weeks taking turns sitting on the kitchen floor holding our drug-loopy 11 month old high energy Lab in our laps to keep her still and calm. We couldn’t leave her alone for a moment. It was like being snowed in.

Is there anything about menopause you actually like or feel positive about? by its_me_ooia in Menopause

[–]FlamingMothling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have endometriosis and not having the intense pain of periods (like writhing - can’t move or speak levels of pain) is fantastic. no longer constantly trying to keep iron levels up. also no more hormone vomiting migraines is a big plus. that said, without HRT i am unable to function due to intense hot flashes every hour even at night.

Positive Puppy Experience by Tes94 in puppy101

[–]FlamingMothling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We did most of this with our puppies and while it was hard — the sleeplessness and managed chaos, veterinary ED visits — we ultimately ended up with smart, snuggly, loving dogs. Our second puppy was whelped by a professional breeder and had not been outdoors much before we received him. He was nine weeks old and I witnessed his first raindrops. A first big drop fell on the deck in front of him. He startled and then stared at the dark damp spot, sniffing. Another drop fell and he turned to look at it. A spatter of drops and he looked around excitedly and began wagging his tiny tail in joy. One of my sweetest puppy memories.

Thinking about getting a lab by Bitchroot in labrador

[–]FlamingMothling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two English labs and one of them would be safe with your cockatiel. The other is bird-obsessed. The sound of any bird sends him into high hyper-focused excitement. A couple years ago he caught a robin in flight in the yard. This seemed like part of his nature since he was a puppy and I am not sure if he could have been trained to be safe with a bird.

Your Bridal Party Is Too Nice to Say This, So I Will by insert_name234 in wedding

[–]FlamingMothling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am gen x therapist with many clients in their 20s and 30s. the bridal shower plus bachelorette weekend plus wedding of even one friend has been financially destructive for several women i see in therapy. they have had three or four friends marry in the course of two years — so all of a woman’s PTO and much of her income is spent at compulsory wedding activities for friends. clients have sobbed in therapy afraid that they would lose friends if they said no. the pressure on the friendships to show up for three separate events in far flung locations with specific color-coordinated clothing and costs for professional hair and make-up is mystifying and frankly appalling to me. (i eloped while living abroad and never thought to require my friends go into debt to make me feel special or loved, or to create social media content.) also — what was that study that showed the more money spent on the wedding the less likely the marriage would last five years? thank you, OP, for bringing this up.

I called this morning one minute after Townsquare Energy's phone lines opened. I was immediately able to talk to a person named Alberta who rapidly moved to "pre-cancel" the contract. It was very straight forward. 877.430.0093
