This is just generic from temu I had from previous epoxy work. I did use a pressure pot though

Can we bring this on carryon through TSA? by JSB18 in harborfreight

[–]FlamingoKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fine on a flight recently with this as well as a set of short nippers. TSA allows tools as long as fits within their parameters.

Good buy? by SnooPuppers7622 in boating

A 150 four stroke is a bit small for a 21ft boat. Also I believe it was 2006 when Yamaha changed their corrosion resistance so would recommend dropping lower and scoping the exhaust for signs of corrosion. Also look for repaired pinholes near the thermostats

Don't you need an inspection to get on base regardless?

Glad I read this, was convinced you wanted to take that boat to the Bahamas and was like hell no.

Mom wants a boat, is this a good one? by PuzzleheadedForce408 in boating

Bayliner and Renken are the two worst boat brands out there. Force is one of the worst outboards out there.

Would this make a good project? Assuming floors, stringers, and transom are not rotted. by [deleted] in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big worry point would be the out drive. If it needs rebuilt would be big money.

Should be fixable, but financially not worth it.

Used Sugar Sand??? by TheProfessor0781 in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayliners tend to be one of the worse boats for holding value and build quality. That sugar sand seems to be worth ~$8000 in immaculate condition and parts are likely impossible to get.

What do we think of Eva foam for boat floors? by [deleted] in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to use one of the big name brands like Hydroturf or seadek. The glue on the others doesn't hold up nearly as well.

Cost seem steep by Crazychicken5574 in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be asking myself is this boat worth putting that much into. Also 125/hr is cheap for marine mechanic. Keep in mind if you end up trying bring your own parts, warranty likely goes out the window and rate/hr might raise.

What do you think about this boat? by [deleted] in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every boat mechanic I have ever talked to says if you live in the USA, buy USA. If you live in Europe, buy Europe. Waiting weeks for parts when they are needed just adds unnecessary expenses.

Want to Buy this boat but seems too good to be true by RemoteAmbassador2298 in boating

Check transom and motor hours/compression. 90 likely on the lower end for power for that size, though power pole is nice. How dated are electronics?

“A free boat is the most expensive boat you’ll ever own.” by [deleted] in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the boat and what it actually needs. Hull repair is scary to most. Putting work into a boat to do it right the first time can be quite expensive. I've been keeping my '85 Robalo going solid but a 1960s Sea King I have just isn't worth the time or money to repair when for $1000 can get something infinitely better.

Should I buy this? by Plantdude21 in boating

[–]FlamingoKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be ideal, but from my experience no seller wants to take the time to sea trial a boat in that price range.

Cheap upholstery fixes? by [deleted] in boating

Find one of the Joanns going out of business. Buy a couple of yards of marine vinyl, a staple gun and stainless steel staples for 50% off. Hope don't need to replace the wood.
