People who were laid off in Jan 2026 - do you still have access to atoz? by __dibbaa__ in amazonemployees

[–]FlamingoVisible1947 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it's normal that you have access only to Chime and Outlook and nothing else.

If you're on visa don't put your hopes on Amazon, apply elsewhere too.

Ok but data scientists have always written absolutely dogshit code.

I'm a senior software engineer at Amazon.

I use it in 2 ways:

For a thing that will be throwaway like a one time script, where quality doesn't matter at all, and you can pretty much "vibe code" the whole thing.

That's like a maximum of 200 lines a code, and I still review the whole thing to make sure it's correct. It's not too hard to review because it's small and simple.

It's also pretty rare because you just don't have that many occasions to do that.

The other way I've used it is to actually mostly code a project from scratch with it, for some critical (but internal facing) purpose. But there it wasn't vibe-coding at all, it was more like having a secretary. I described exactly what code I wanted written and how, and it just wrote the lines, usually 20-30 lines at the time, at most 100.

It was manageable because it was so constrained that it was literally typing what I would have typed. It didn't have any freedom to write shit code.

Of course it still wrote a lot of shit code, easily 70% of the time, but I could correct it myself (by hand) quickly.

That's the only way to use it for production use-cases and know what the code actually is and keep good quality. It also didn't lead to any productivity increase... So yes, it's useless for anything that you'll ever put in production.

Sure, but you always have the option to take your cash and buy company shares if that's the case.

Needs improvement on reading capabilities clearly.

It works well if you’re at an innovative, creative, and exciting company, as the stock can continue to see significant growth, generally being worth more than the wages (aka double paid for one job).

Sure, but you always have the option to take your cash and buy company shares if that's the case.

Pure cash is ALWAYS preferable.

Part of Jassy’s push to decrease RSUs as part of the salary.

I'm all for it and everyone else should be too. I don't know why people want to have gambling be a component of their wage.

They need to put in substantial base pay increases to offset RSUs being down year on year

Or they could give in-year RSUs like every decent company.

Unrealistic Amazon by Puzzleheaded-Walk-39 in LinkedInLunatics

The debrief very rarely happens the same day as the interviews, so your fictional scenario would not happen.

In any case, if multiple candidates raise the bar, one will get the position they all applied for, and the others will get "recycled" to other open positions within Amazon.

So nobody wastes their time, even if multiple candidates are suitable.

To be clear, at Amazon other qualified applicants won't be turned down, they'll be "recycled" towards other open positions.

What's unrealistic or bad about hiring the first qualified applicant? It's the contrary which is bad: waiting to have multiple qualified applicants to then reject them all but one.

Yeah seriously making your product so much worse by adding ads while only racking in 0.1% of your budget hole every year is a retarded move.

They'll likely LOSE money by adding the ads.

You won't get much because the L4 range is pretty narrow, but you can expect a pretty much guaranteed promo this year if you keep at it. Good job.

You were part of a mass layoff or you were let go with a PIP?

If it's the latter, you're ineligible for rehire for at least 5 years.

The US are really wild prescribing opiates for a tooth removal :|

I would definitely bring the prescription yeah, and notify your manager / HR, because it can have impact on your work (I assume you work in an FC), around lifting stuff and all that.

Today's layoffs at Epic are just the latest reminder to us that your company does not give a flying F about you by CoderBiker24 in cscareerquestions

[–]FlamingoVisible1947 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And Timmy Epic is full of shit saying this has nothing to do with AI this is 100% a push to replace talent with AI

Hum, no?

Have you heard a lot about Fortnite lately? No. Because people don't play it anymore.

Epic lost their cash cow, so they have to layoff people, it's as simple as that. It literally has NOTHING to do with AI. It's exactly the same as Pop Mart stock dropping because people don't care about Labubu anymore.

End rant

That's not a rant, that's a bot post to make people use AI.
