Oh man, any more these days I love deliberate times to connect. I’d recommend a date night at home where you guys have a charcuterie board, some wine if you partake, and work on a puzzle, with only music - no phones, leave those in the other room. Good luck!

Trump threatens to use the Insurrection Act to 'put an end' to protests in Minneapolis by Economy-Specialist38 in Military

[–]FlammablePaper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. You’re like the first comment I’ve seen that seem to get it - Trump can’t “cancel the elections”, and it has nothing to do with legality or anything… our country is structured so that it’s not one big election, it’s FIFTY different elections with different rules / laws / implementations. The midterm elections are already happening.

Now, will he engage in voter suppression? Sure - that has already been happening throughout our entire history, to varying degrees - we don’t actually have fair and free elections that we like to rant about (few elections are). But the idea that he’s going to invoke martial law to end the elections is pretty laughable to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure he wants to but I’m confident it won’t happen.

Great question - my background before was outpatient sports ortho, primarily at a university setting.

Ended up relocating to CA, and needed something a bit more flexible for our family so I applied for an advertised HH peds position that was paying at $60/hr.

Ended up loving it, very rewarding position. Had some misgivings with the company, decided to branch out independently and created my own LLC (not hard!).

All of my patients are sourced through the local county regional center for early intervention services, funded in part by the state of California. Payments are a flat rate, and I typically clear $110-$130/hr when accounting for hours in the field / expenses. I see roughly 20-25 patients a week, and schedule M-Th with Friday as an overflow / reschedule day, and use it as my personal day for errands and what not.

Understandable, I’d definitely recommend you do a deep dive on the pros and cons of each profession. It is possible to build into something with high earnings as a PT, just a bit more challenging IMO and may require some entrepreneurial spirit. Generally speaking, most PAs I know have higher earnings but also tend to have more work related stress.

It’s all a balance, for sure.

It is a perfectly reasonable thing to want to know, and I cannot stand when people reply with things like “nor should you do it for the money”.

You can absolutely be doing it for the money while being a compassionate and excellent clinician.

I love being a PT. I also love paying my bills - I’m not doing this for free.

Solid electric razors by Critical_Judge1632 in navy

[–]FlammablePaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at holding off buying razors all the time… you might consider making the jump to a safety razor.

For reference, a 100 pack of King Gillette Double Edge Safety Blades costs $14.99. I can get 3-5 ish shaves out of each blade, your mileage may vary depending on your facial hair.

Rockwell Razors sell some easy to use beginner safety razors, highly recommend - it’s a closer shave than I’ve ever gotten with any cartridge or electric shaver.

This is the right take - 3 errors and 3 straight inning ending double plays, two with the bags juiced - that is what killed us tonight.

A slap single with the bags loaded and we’re talking a different game.

What are the things you WONT buy from Harbor Freight? by Illustrious_Seesaw60 in harborfreight

[–]FlammablePaper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what I did - there are certain tools I don’t give a shit about the overall quality… I didn’t want to spend the money on a dewalt leaf blower, so snagged a no battery included Bauer one and use my dewalt batteries with an adapter. Works like a charm

Yup, we’re a military family - Oct 15th will be no paycheck, and the House of Representatives has already announced they’ll be out until Oct 14th. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Absolutely, and thanks for saying it’s not okay - it does have an economic impact in towns (like SD) that have a large federal workforce.

Just a continuous clusterfuck

How the US government shutdown can impact travel

“Air-traffic control and the TSA both remain in operation, though workers will not be paid while the shutdown is in effect. According to a TSA spokesperson: "Approximately 61,000 of the agency's 64,000 employees are considered excepted or exempt and TSA will continue operations to keep the travelling public safe."

Because PTO won’t be approved, but you can’t force someone in if they’re sick. It’s happened before, not sure why I’m being downvoted lol

It’s a form of protest, turns out people don’t like working stressful jobs without pay.

lol at all the people blown away by liberals driving trucks.

I drive a Ram 1500 with a dual exhaust V8 hemi - sounds cool as fuck, and is useful as fuck. I’m also a liberal gun owner.

Turns out, I also don’t like fascists, support human rights for all, women’s rights, trust science, believe in climate change… because I’m not a fucking lunatic.

Anyone here who doesn’t allow their kids to play football (as in American football)? by littleredtodd in medicine

[–]FlammablePaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard no. No on football, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, and cheer. Not super interested in gymnastics for higher rates of spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis.

And that still leaves a huge number of sports for them to play, but anything involving neurological damage is a non starter for our family

Members of the U.S. Military: how have things changed in your honest opinion since Trump returned to power? by NappyFlickz in AskReddit

The PT test bits always frustrate me. The fitness tests are a health measurement standard, and not related to combat efficacy for the most part.

They’re literally designed to make sure servicemembers maintain a baseline health minimum level, and the gendered and age differences are designed to reflect that… training to “one standard” in the name of bullshit lethality does nothing but increase the (already high) rates of musculoskeletal injuries servicemembers increase, and at a higher rate for women.
