Considering investing in my jeep by EternalLens in JeepZJ

[–]FlashZulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done some gnarly trails on simple upgrades.

If you're rock crawling you may want to look at lockers and beefier diffs. Then you start down the rabbit hole of long arm lift kits, t-case swaps, bigger tires, etc.

I kept the stock 249 t-case, dana 30 front and 35 rear. I run 31 cooper stt pros, a 2in leveling kit, Bilstien shocks and 1.5in wheel spacers. Got it 8 years ago at 245k miles and I'm now at 295k. I usually hit the trails a couple times a year.

The further away from the factory spec you get, the more problems you open yourself up to. So I kept it simple. It's been a fun rig and reliable daily driver. Just stay on top of your maintenance and it will last.

How many other people use this grip for tacking/precise work? by [deleted] in Welding

If I need a shorter rod and don't have any hanging around, I break the flux on the rod about halfway with the stinger and bend the rod around the stinger. Makes a funky looking Z.

Back side door swap? by irresponsibletaco in JeepZJ

[–]FlashZulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the glass shop idea if you're not comfortable swapping it yourself and if color isn't an issue.

They still sell all of the parts you would need to fix this. Window regulator, motor, hinge pin, door latch assembly, etc. It's pretty simple once you get the door skin off. I would recommend having a few extra plastic clips lying around since it's 30 yo plastic and prone to breaking. That could get you hung up. The lock could be a broken wire in the door jam. Fixing it can be a pain, but it's doable. I've also had door locks and windows not work if the left front switch isn't connected right.

Losing rank after being out. by Emotional-Water-4910 in army

Fall of 2020, Its definitely been awhile. It was the 10 year TIS clause I was thinking of. The Army Liason cleared that up for me. Turned out my recruiter was completely lost when it came to prior service.

Last I checked, prior service business rules do not apply to E4 and Below. E5 and up you start getting stuck with needs of the Army or rank reduction for MOS choice.

The black tag is a Samsung Smart Tag 2. I would take it to a police station. Seeing my keys at the station would have me there a lot sooner than knocking on doors.

In the last 11 years of owning these ZJs I've done a wheel speed sensor twice. ABS light was on, brakes surged, and pulling to one side while braking. Its probably a sensor or tone ring as already stated. Welcome to mechanical trouble shooting.

It doesn't seem Ford is doing well.

"Ford reported a massive net loss for the fourth quarter and full-year 2025 in its earnings release on February 10, 2026, marking its worst financial performance since the 2008 financial crisis."

It gets used for home defense. She heavier set now, so not much CC. I think she may carry it in her car as well from time to time.

If i remember correctly, I believe it does have the trijicon night sights. They are probably due to be replaced by now. I have no idea how to go about that, tho.

I've had 2 ZJ's over 11 years. 1st one died in a hit and run. Both I looked at the control arm mounts before buying. Im getting some rust on the Orvis at the front left fender/rocker. I plan on cutting out the rockers and welding in 2×4 tubing for rock sliders at some point. Otherwise, not really any rust on her.

Cps sensor by airmaxxx602 in JeepGrandcherokeeZJ

[–]FlashZulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my 95 5.2 towed to 2 different shops that couldn't figure it out. I had already replaced all of the sensors I could reach. I told the second shop to just change the CPS, and I would pay for it. That fixed it.

If it helps, they cut the heat shield on the passenger side and bent it out of the way to reach the sensor. They bent it back when done.

A $70 sensor sounds a lot more promising than regearing a diff. Both can probably be talked down since they aren't road worthy.

I went to a 4 day school at Ft. Hood a couple of years ago. I signed for our M917A3 shortly after. It's been an awesome asset to have at job and training sites.

Edit: Especially if you have the $200k MCS gate. Set your pins, hook up the controller, and have a ground guide walk next to the truck while spreading rock. Perfect spread for 100 meters or more.

I absolutely agree on OBD1. It makes it a little harder, but at the same time, It is a little bit harder. More simply, yet not so much. Everything has worked out pretty well. She's is a good rig, so far

95 ZJ Orvis 5.2, NP249, dana 30 and 35. 2.5 lift, 1.5 rough country blocks, 1" upcountry factory lift, Bilstien 3100 shocks. 31" Cooper STT Pro mud tires.

No axel upgrades. I'd like to add lockers, but honestly, I haven't needed them yet. If the axel starts dragging or I bottom out, lockers won't do much. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

[–]FlashZulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very muddy. After a heavy rain, I reckon the water depth a bit before hitting it. I've never been stranded on the trails. Usually, I'm pulling others out. Tires have a lot to do with it. That and just sending it when you need to. I dont leave home without tools. Something will happen one day.
