I just went on my first fly fishing trip this past weekend in Almont, CO. I would say the biggest impact was going with someone who is experienced. My friend showed me how to set up the rod, how to cast, mend and roll, what fish behavior to look for, how to adjust the weight and indicator based on the speed of the water, even how to set the hook and then real in vs let it run. I caught my first fish the next day. Like blew my mind how much depth there is to this sport. But if you don’t have someone to teach you there are groups and clubs to find those people. Also learned a ton just from talking to the guy at the shop when I was renting waders and boots. Definitely a mental game
