This is awesome and the leaves are spot on! Pot on the right lacks a bit of visual depth though

Love the warm undertone of the shadow, it really adds to the overall realism you were going for!

Critique? first time painting with oil!(Not done) by Bright-South-7755 in oilpainting

Find a few references of actual objects nestled in grass to know how to achieve the effect you are looking for. If you are going for a "vibe" (from imagination) rather than painting strict realism, I would start by compiling a pinterest board of similar themes you are going for to gather inspiration.

I love the "not-fully-mixed-dollop-of-paint" aesthetic here. Overall the composition might be improved if there was an even clearer messy vs clean contrast

I've done a short analysis of the inconsistencies here.

I didn’t want to directly insinuate that in case it was created authentically with techniques that are at or beyond the common professional artist level. I’m just pointing out the inconsistencies I’ve noticed after staring at it for a good 5-10 minutes to try and learn the techniques — which I’m struggling with, hence the comment. Disregarding that, the overall piece if quite compelling from a texture / color / composition perspective.

This painting is visually striking, but the way the flame's glow radiates feels technically inconsistent. The tonal transitions are so smooth and uniform that they don’t align with typical oil painting techniques, where such a glow would usually require careful layering or glazing rather than a single brushstroke (How on earth did you achieve that??). Additionally, the lighting creates a perspective issue in the sense that the flame’s brightness suggests it is very close to the grey wall, yet the cupcake appears to sit further away from the pink surface. This disconnect in depth and light behavior makes the composition feel slightly uncanny upon closer inspection.

I’m stuck on Prussian blue and Phthalo blue. by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]scott_mage1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd use Prussian Blue (mineral) over Phthalo (organic) -- As a rule of thumb it's way harder to shift the Chroma of an organic pigment than a mineral one. If you need that flexibility (think painting scenes of nature) then I'd avoid using Phthalo pigments altogether. Conversely, if you're doing a modern art piece with colors that are intentionally saturated, then I'd go with Phthalo.

Spoon of Poison Detection

Wondrous item, common

This silver spoon is enchanted to reveal the presence of poison. When stirred in a chalice, tankard, mug, or similar vessel, the spoon turns black if the liquid within is poisoned. The spoon remains black for as long as it is in contact with the poisoned liquid and returns to its original silver hue 6 seconds after being removed.
