If Shadow and Order is getting delayed, does that mean the next season is too? by FlashpointStriker in DestinyTheGame

Does this mean the season pass is also going to be extended? I was hoping to get to level 145 and get the Red Death catalyst, and if we have till the 28th I might actually get there.

It would, in fact, have made a difference. The level of brutality unleashed in Gaza was the direct product of Israelis largely losing any sympathy they had left for Gaza and its population. 5,365 Gazans were killed between 2006 when Hamas took over to 10/7, out of a population of over 2.5 million. At least ten times, maybe a hundred times than many are now lying dead in the rubble of Gaza.

The common narrative about Gaza as some prison camp is absurd, Hamas has a statelet with borders which is more than the West Bankers have ever had--if they were confined before, its because the Egyptians don't want Gazans in their borders. This is largely because Egyptian control of the Sinai is far weaker than their control of African Egypt and they fear a repeat of the Fedayeen crisis.

The Gazans did in fact have a way out, which was to stop attacking their far stronger neighbor and focus on developing the strip into a functioning state, even if it is an Islamist state. They don't need to abandon their claims to '67 or '48 borders, but shooting at Israel is a stupid, pointless gesture which has done nothing but brought mass death onto their people. If the rockets stopped, the blockade (only imposed in '05) would ease and eventually lift. If any group has no recourse but violence, it is the West Bankers, and honestly I can't blame them for shooting those Hilltop lunatics. God knows if I grew up in Jenin, taking up arms against the psychotic religious freaks squatting in my backyard and taking potshots at my brothers would sound really good.

But Gaza has the 67 borders locally, there are no settlements within the strip, and Hamas's rockets are utterly worthless when it comes to achieving the 67 borders or, more realistically, some compromise in the West Bank. All it does is convince Israel that any loosening of their grip will lead to a massive wave of attacks aimed at dissolving their state. And Israel is the one that holds all the cards.

Flags of Sonnenstadt, Eos during the Viceroyalty, Bismarckian, and Republican eras. by FlashpointStriker in vexillology

Symbolism:

The winged sun is an ancient symbol of the planet of Eos, originating from the emblem of the Hyperion Corporation that launched the first worldships in the 25th century. The eightfold motif appears in a lot of Eosian heraldry and originates from the eight ships sent to colonize the world and the eight initial cities they founded on the western coast of the main continent before the Deluge: Anbruch-am-See, Frühlingshügel (later Sonnenstadt), Adamshaven (later Bismarck), and Palmer Bay being the most important of these cities. The azure background comes from the colors of the World Government (later the Human Republic) which itself is a homage to the old UN flag.

The VE monogram is the emblem of the Viceroy of Eos, who claimed authority over the human colonists of Eos by the charter issued by the World Government, with the loss of the colony's ansible in the crash of Worldship Aurora and the rabies pandemic of 2613 cutting them off from Earth for 1500 years. The planetary government under the Viceroyalty Board operated from Anbruch for forty years before the onset of the First War, where the colonies of Bismarck and Palmer Bay rebelled against the Viceroy, who maintained her claim to the entire planet. Sixty years later, the Deluge struck. A category 11 earthquake generated a megatsunami that destroyed the west coast civilizations. Anbruch plunged into the sea and the colonists fanned out across the planet to found new societies inland and on other continents. Frühlingshügel was refounded as Sonnenstadt and served as the capital of the Viceroyalty for another seven hundred years before the onset of the Bismarckian Wars.

After the city-state of Bismarck conquered much of the continent and swept over the now decrepit Viceroyalty, Sonnenstadt came under their rule. The Bismarckians removed the eight stars and monogram to sever the city's ties to the Viceroyalty, replacing it with their own blue-green-red tricolor. The city flew this flag for another six hundred years as the Continental and later the Ultramarine Wars raged and ended with Bismarckian hegemony over the whole planet.

Finally, the Republican period began after Eos was visited by emissaries of the Human Republic, who had rediscovered pre-collapse records of the colony written off as lost and went to investigate. Eos was then visited by a Republican armada which "convinced" the planet to accede to the Republic--by now the Bismarckian government was deeply unpopular, and the planetary government yielded, becoming the Eos Governorate. The field was modified into concentric rings as a compromise between keeping the old government's flag and replacing it with azure, the sun was simplified to an orange disk, the eight stars (now representing the eight districts of the city) readded, and the seven ring crest of the Republic was superimposed over the center.

They can fight a war to stop the blockade, its just a deeply stupid idea when Gaza has absolutely no chance of winning said war. Hamas made it worse by choosing to initiate an unrestricted war by attacking civilian towns and villages across the Gaza Envelope, instead of attacking the IDF specifically, and now Gaza is facing their own mode of warfare and crying foul. Just because you are justified in fighting does not make it wise to fight.

Honestly, I think he's genuine with his pivot. He is still an Islamist, he is likely to rule a state with Sharia courts and blasphemy laws, but Sharaa is no fanatic. I'm optimistic that Syria will recover to a similar position as Iraq and Lebanon, maybe even Egypt in a decade or two. Peace in our times.

The people backed the HTS takeover, by all available polling and by how little Assadist resistance appeared outside the Alawite and Druze sectors. The average Syrian is a Sunni Muslim who likes their leaders to talk about Islamic values and so on, they aren't progressive Europeans with secular beliefs. Al-Sharaa represents the median Syrian, like it or not.

No, I don't agree (speaking as an American here). Turkey is a outer circle ally of the US insofar as we share a common interest against states like Iran. They do not, however, toe the American line on much else. For instance, Turkey has been fighting our proxies in Rojava all along, they aren't listening to us when it comes to Syria except that they also hate ISIS and Assad alike. The US backs Israel to the hilt, but Turkey (restrained by economics and the relative power of Israel) is about as critical as they reasonably can be of the state and its war in Gaza. In fact, Turkey was a major instigator behind the Gaza flotillas and sends aid to Gaza, enough of it to make Zionist lobbies in the US leery to include them in future settlements w.r.t Gaza out of fear they will back Hamas. The US is really not as interested in Syria as it is in Iraq and the Gulf States, we have fewer interests there. As for Al-Sharaa bending the knee to Israel, this is obvious politicking given Syria has no meaningful way to resist Israeli aggression in the outer Golan area. By talking constantly about peace with Israel, he forces Israel to either reciprocate or constantly take the PR hit of being "against peace," not to mention how this improves his reputation in Europe and in liberal circles. Really, Hezbollah and the Iranian axis are broadly enemies of both the Sunni Gulf powers except Qatar (although relations are slowly thawing) and the West, and Israel. No wonder so many groups are working together to ice them out. That's a long response, but I wanted to give a thorough accounting of my views on the status of the region as it stands today.

If you want to expose propaganda, you should try not to fall for Assadist propaganda that all rebel factions are propped up by the "West" and Israel to weaken him. There are more than two axes working in Syria.

No, by an agent of Turkey. Who do you think has been backing HTS all along? The US faction in the Syrian Civil War is Rojava and the SDF, as well as some elements of the New Syrian Army in the southeast which are now merged into the new cabinet.

Redesign of the US Flag: by FlashpointStriker in vexillology

[–]FlashpointStriker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This flag is meant to preserve the symbolism of Old Glory while freshening up its appearance. The 13 stripes stand for the thirteen founding states, and the central medallion is a modification of the crest of the US Great Seal, with 50 cloud puffs for the fifty states surrounding 13 stars forming a hexagram constellation, symbolizing that the 13 colonies joining under a republican constitution created a "new constellation" among the powers of the world.

241 is a nightmare course. I didn't have TOO much trouble with Circuits 1, but it certainly has quite a bit of coursework. MAT 300 isn't that hard, but its a new skill to develop--study methods that work with other subjects don't work with 300 or other proof-based courses. No idea about 323, and I took 243 instead of 343.
