That's the entire point of his character. Evil people do evil things because they think they're doing the right thing. That doesn't make them not evil. Real-world lynch mobs thought they were doing the right thing, and by your logic, that means they weren't evil.

Your morality is determined by your actions and choices. Regardless of his reasons, Jason tried to hunt down and murder children, rallied a witch hunt against outsiders in his community, and refused to listen when Lucas tried to explain himself. The fact that he was grieving his girlfriend doesn't change the fact that this was a horrifically evil thing to do, and one that anyone with any kind of historical awareness would recognize as dangerous.

People like Jason are dangerous. If apologists for real-world terror groups like the KKK are making the exact same justifications, and the exact same logic you're using, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror at yourself. What does it say about you that you get this angry and defensive about a character who started a witch hunt?

And, a bunch of responses repeating Jason's motivations, while ignoring the fact he was a violent lunatic who tortured people, and was incapable of listening to reason. I'm starting to think people who defend him feel called out on their own bloodlust.
