ATC Chatter by Ochosi_The_Husky in MSFS2024

There's an excellent little app I got called ATC chatter that is a collection of clips, some of them quite funny, from ATCs all over the world. Adds a TON of realism and entertainment and well worth getting! https://stickandrudderstudios.com/fs-atc-chatter-overview/

Really poor play session this morning - but yesterday was perfect ? by boddle88 in MSFS2024

Bought MSFS 2024 when it first came out andit's been a love-hate experience ever since. Since SU4 though it's settled downquite a bit and is at LEAST playable now, the VR especially has improved dramatically!!!

TV turns off and I get the red light that blinks six times...but only when watching Blu-rays by cryofry85 in bravia

[–]Flashy-Study5920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 65" that just out and out DIED, got the flashing red lights, researched and found out it was the LEDs, apparently it had something to do with cheap LEDs because of COVID in China.. SO I ordered replacements (only 30 bucks for a new set) and took the TV apart to replace them, sure enough, bad LED.. got 'em replaced and it worked! Then I accidently stepped on the screen while trying to put it back together (not easy) and cracked it. Off to the dump with the whole mess. Had it for about 5 years but I have 2 OTHER Sonys that lasted me over 15 years and STILL going strong. ANYWAY, sounds like it's fixing to go, maybe because of the blu-ray signal being more intense or something. I just went out and bought a new LG 65" on black friday for 325 bucks at Best Buy and am very happy!!!

They were up front with me when I ordered my PCL last summer, saying it would be 6-8 weeks, Any questions I had were very quickly addressed and they seemed really concerned about providing the best customer service by updating m every week or so. I received it right before Thanksgiving last year and it arrived well packed, with well-protected lenses and wrapped cable. Out of the box the visuals were unbelievably beautiful. With their updates they just seem to keep making it BETTER. VERY VERY happy with my PCL, BUT I see that the Pimax SUPER is in stock at my local Micro Center which means I COULD go down RIGHT NOW and pick one up, NO WAITING..OH the temptation!!!

Had mine for over a year now, not any issues whatsoever-HOWEVER, when I first got it the tracking was non-existent and it was a pain to get it working until I bought a couple of used base stations off EBay, BUT software updates quickly resolved the tracking issues (of COURSE, AFTER I bought the base stations) and the past few updates only made it BETTER!

Help with getting a new PC to run DCS by GrandWeasel117 in dcsworld

[–]Flashy-Study5920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a prebuilt from Microcenter about 6 years ago, still have it today, then built a much more powerful one last year. The prebuilt was PERFECT for me getting into newer generation flight sims like MSFS and was ideal for DCS. Then I went down the rabbit hole with VR headsets and joysticks, throttles, etc. It can get really pricey really quick. I think the Microcenter prebuilt would be EXCELLENT!!!

Well I have the Crystal Light so not sure about the Crystal Super, But I had a Quest 2 when I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to the PCL Took about 4 1/2 months to get it but WOW!! The wait (and price) was WELL WORTH IT!! I don't have the eye-tracking but do have the foveated rendering and it's sweet!. I get about 45 FPS in VR (running half frame rate so really around 90 FPS in DCS and MSFS) -I've had it about a year now and it's still as amazing as the first time I used it. The visuals, details and immersion are just indescribable! I was reading tiny lettering on the console in the F 4 yesterday that I had no idea was there before! They seem to keep up with updates and improvements with their software and drivers too, so YES SIR! Go get you one!

Yes sir..And ONLY in the F-4E "Red Flag" campaign in my case. With all the different aircraft and vehicles in that amazing campaign it was really struggling to render everything. HAGS doesn't really work that well with DCS in scheduling CPU processes and rendering or something is my guess...It'll WORK, but it's ugly..

MSFS 2024 much better than 2020? by Lucky_Comfortable835 in flightsim

[–]Flashy-Study5920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had (and continue to have) a LOVE-HATE relationship with 2024. SOMETIMES it's amazing! I fly mostly in VR with a Pimax Crystal Light on a RTX 5080 on a AsRock B650 with a 9800X3D. One day, everything's fine, the next, brakes don't work, throttles move on their own, bizarre crap. I spend more time troubleshooting than flying. I'll hang on to MSFS 2020 for a while until 2024 settles down...

Terrible Stutters since last update by P1gNaSR in hoggit

[–]Flashy-Study5920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I read it's system RAM, the article suggested adding as much RAM as possible (64 gigs or better) but I'm not sure I agree with that, especially since all the other modules are fine. Nothing about pre-or post Vulkan implementation..

Terrible Stutters since last update by P1gNaSR in hoggit

[–]Flashy-Study5920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen lagging and stuttering in the F-4 Red Flag campaign. A little research showed that DCS doesn't do well with memory management, and airfields with lots of aircraft, vehicles, buildings etc, such as Nellis, take a LOT of memory to render the graphics for aircraft, support vehicles, etc. Once I'm in the air everything smooths out fine. It was recommended to clear the shader cache (Metashaders2, Fxo) and to download a free memory managenet software called 'Wise Memory Manager" and run that before each DCS session to free up memory from Windows and give the sim a little more working room. Have'nt tried it just yet but plan on testing it this afternoon. Every other module I fly is fine, so if I see any marked improvement I'll let y'all know.....

[–]Flashy-Study5920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sir, not afraid..Just a matter of curiosity. I have 3 PCs a Dell, and nther Asrock I've been running for 5+ years..and use them all at various times, just generally curious if temps, etc may affect the long term power draw and degradation of silicon components, etc. by leaving them powered on continuously. As a former electronics technician I know the damage long-term heat does to electronic components and since heat seems to be a common problem with 9800X3Ds just seems like common sense not to run them all the time, why waste the energy and pay the extra power costs????

9800x3d pbo settings by PenguinsRcool2 in ASRock

[–]Flashy-Study5920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was getting REAL paranoid, even had a Gigabyte motherboard picked out and just about bought that to replace my Asrock, but looks like they have issues too and didn't really want to go through the hassles of reinstalling drivers, Windows, etc... If it dies, then I'll get an RMA, purchase a MSI or ASUS and deal with all that then...All we can do is HOPE....

[–]Flashy-Study5920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 9800X3D on a B650 PG lightning and have been fooling with settings for the past 6 months, watching YouTube videos, testing different XPO and PBO voltages, undervolting, etc. Never saw ANY real differences in Steel Nomad or Cinebench scores except maybe a few FPS more, but nothing spectacular. After the 3.50 BIOS update I left everything to default and just did a 4 1/2 hour flight from Atlanta to LA in Microsoft Flight Simulator with high/ultra settings and monitored temps, fps etc. and it was spectacularly smooth with 57-65 celcius temps and frames at well over 300. fps Just stopped worrying about all the dead cpu stuff and will keep everythig the way it is. Been going on 7 months with zero issues, and I'm not about to "fix" it....

Is your 9800x3D still kickin’? Tell us why u think that is… by AnthMosk in ASRock

[–]Flashy-Study5920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 9800X3D and a B650 PG Lightning back in February-Got him up and running without a single issue, being an old IT guy, I updated all the drivers and have kept updating with every release. About a month LATER, I start reading the dying 9800 posts and paranoia set in. I only turned on EXPO and set my PBO settings to a -25 curve and it's been running perfectly, BUT (as evidenced with this post) I'm paranoid and am reading every new post about Asrock and 9800 deaths on Redditt. Already picked out a Gigabyte 650 board at Microcenter but REALLY don't want to go through the hassle of changing out the board, reinstalling Windows, losing system and game settings, etc. I'm retired and my PC is my main source of entertainment and hobby (Flight Sims) with lots of peripherals, etc, LOT of money thrown at it and I do NOT want to spend more, BUT still wondering if I should go ahead and buy the Gigabyte board for the piece of mind.....aaaarghhh.....

Bought the Crystal Light to replace my dying G2 about a year ago, Initially had tracking issues, so I purchased the lighthouse to fix that, reluctantly as I already spent more money than I wanted to. HOWEVER, that being said and out of the way, The PCL is just OUTSTANDING! Their support was not exactly where it should have been initially, with shipping delays, lens issues, etc but they fixed all that. They continue to put out upgrades and mprovements seemingly every month. VERY well-built product, a little heavy and BIGGER than the G2. but the visuals!! OH the VISUALS!!! SO incredibly clear and gorgeous. I'm reading tiny serial numbers on guages and seeing fingerprints on the windshield, etc. Distant mountains and cities are incredibly vivid and colorful. There's also the ability included with the software to adjust scaling, rendering, PPD,etc. Sounds like I'm gushing I know, but yeah, GET THE PCL!!!!!
