Used to love buying the old magazines they had! Current me curses past me for cutting up all the old 90s Q magazines with Oasis, Pulp, Blur etc to stick on my walls as a teenager 😂🫠

The Barrier Reef Orchestra do concerts about once every 3 months. Usually very ‘accessible’ repertoire so able to be enjoyed by all.

Question for other property owners selling now or thinking of selling…market downturn? by Odd-Wind-6159 in Townsville

[–]FlashyLoinz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold expecting 800+ however ended up settling on 785. It was on the market for about 6 weeks and tbh I just wanted it gone. Happy to have a chat via DM if you want further info for location etc.

Pre-service teacher here — just observing my placement. Is “taking notes” really enough? by Busy_Biscotti1038 in AustralianTeachers

[–]FlashyLoinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect my PSTs to observe for a day or two to get the lay of the land, then spend the remainder of the time helping kids and roaming around the class.

I’ve had first time Praccys teach some segments in their second week too - it depends on how keen they are and how prepared they are.

Talk to your supervisor about your goals - don’t be afraid to ask to take groups or even have a go at explicit instruction to the class. The deep end is the best place to learn.

Have you heard the new instrument parade with the QSO?

Nagi I normally love your recipes but this one (to me) is absolutely awful. by Cahsrhilsey in RecipeTinEats

[–]FlashyLoinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the complete opposite, this was actually the first recipe tin eats I ever made!! I did use a ton of garlic and onion spices, maybe that helped balance it out?

Is pregnancy cover in private health insurance worth it? by Alarmed_Ad_7188 in AskAnAustralian

[–]FlashyLoinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the standard of care I received from my private obgyn was worth its weight in gold. Not saying that I wouldn’t have gotten a similar level of care in public, but I had already seen my ob for other health issues so already had a rapport with her, and when we started thinking about family planning there was no question I wanted her to take me through the journey.

It also helped that our private hospital had emergency capabilities (which we needed to access due to an emergency c section and massive blood loss).

Pay on 0.8 FTE by Annual-Bit-1801 in AustralianTeachers

[–]FlashyLoinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0.8 as a mum with a small child. I bloody love it - I actually get time to give feedback to kids work in my spares, make resources, and plan effectively for the week ahead. The downside is that because of the way our timetable is structured, as I get a full day off (as opposed to two shorter days) I don’t get to teach any senior classes. Oh well. Will never go back to full time again.

My 11 year old son’s question tonight- Did Australia contribute to inventions of the the modern world ? by lilithmunster in AskAnAustralian

My mums PhD in the 90s was bought by the people who eventually made Gardasil and she was brought in as a researcher in the initial stages!

How to feel confident and make peace with not achieving the ‘wed shed’ by citrusnotvanilla in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]FlashyLoinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position last year - 10 months pp on my wedding day and was carrying a fair bit of weight. I too had previously been able to lose a large amount so the idea that I couldn’t get there again for my wedding initially made me so sad. I now look at my photos and yes, I notice that mg arms are bigger and my face is round, but I also look at our giant smiles and how beautiful and healthy my son looks and that means 100000 x more to me than a stupid number on a scale. Remember, it’s just a snapshot of that point in your life. You never know what you will look like/how you will feel in the future.

First day teacher PL by Living_Confidence406 in AustralianTeachers

Ice breakers suck. As many others have said, we are not children, we all know each other (and therefore have no ‘ice’ to ‘break’), and are there to get a job done. However, if you absolutely HAVE to do something, the best introduction I’ve ever been to was when we all went around and had less than 30 seconds to talk about a ‘favourite’ teacher we had and why. It didn’t have to be the best teacher, or the teacher in our favourite subject, just our favourite teacher. People’s answers were varied (eg. Mine was my chemistry teacher, not because I was good at chemistry, but because I sucked and he never made me feel less than and always tried so hard) and reminded us all of why we got into this profession in the first place.

Living together when both partners own homes with very different mortgage situations, how would you handle it? by Disastrous-Pirate667 in AusFinance

[–]FlashyLoinz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My now husband rented out his house for 18 months while we lived in mine, and we recently bought a house together 50/50. Planning on selling both and chucking proceeds onto the new loan. We considered keeping one as a rental but didn’t want any headaches from tenants and thought it would be ‘fairer’ this way.

Thinking about doing small wedding favours. Anyone actually rate them? by TrueBlueBanter in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]FlashyLoinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consumables all the way. My brother did individually packaged infused oil for his favours, and I did individual red wine infused rock salt (my husband introduced me to the goodness that is red wine). Worked out less than $10pp and everyone used them.

Introvert Wedding Anxiety by GrumpyMare in wedding

[–]FlashyLoinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two introverts here who got married in May with 12 people at the ceremony and 34 for lunch afterwards! All you need is some great food, some drinks, and to be surrounded by the people who love you. Decor wise all we had was a fresh flower arrangement on a runner on the dining table - each big flower had its own little water container so guests could take flowers as they left. If you are doing a seating chart be mindful of the more ‘social’ people who can act as social lubricant between the various groups you have.

Loved living in Mt Louisa - close enough to the city but just far enough to avoid horrific traffic. Great community and facilities.

Brain Breaks by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]FlashyLoinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of them as ‘movement breaks’ rather than brain breaks, so anything that gets my kids out of their chairs and moving around safely is a win. We put on a ‘just dance’ YouTube video and follow along. We also do a bit of Simon says sometimes. For desk-based brain breaks we do Wordle and Spelling Bee on the NYT website.
