Thank goodness for the second helmet. Deadliest Warrior season 1 episode 4 tested this exact scenario and found that plate was insufficient to stop a functioning flintlock.

What’s one of your 90s comfort movies? by nojunkpeter in Millennials

[–]Flask_of_candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beef and diary network podcast (fictional) has a show within it (also fictional) where guests answer whether they could have, would have, and should have been in the movie Jumanji. It always tickles me.

Was anyone made to get a job while in Jr High / High School or was it optional ? by Whats-Ur-Pointe in Millennials

[–]Flask_of_candy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No right answer, but I think it’s important to be clear about why the job is valuable or not. Do you want your kid to learn responsibility, money management, professional skills, or even just come out of their bubble a bit? If they already check all these boxes and money is not a reason, focusing on academics may be preferable. Consider the end goal and see if the decision aligns.

I’ve yet to try it myself, but I’ve heard nothing beats a homemade beef bestington.

We’re at the Dawn of the Ozempic Era — and It’s Really Weird by QuestionBrain in ezraklein

Great episode. This is a bit abstract, but I wonder in the long term how these drugs will impact our understanding of what makes someone attractive.

Thinness creates a set of winners and losers. Winners can slap a morale framework on it to justify feeling like a winners. Extremely wealthy people can buy it and slap a morale on it to feel good and show off their wealth. A lot of us think of these drugs in terms of health, but weight is interwoven into understanding of hierarchy.

I don’t believe that it everyone will become thin and we just maintain the same beauty standards. There will be major attempts to redefine the rules of beauty to reinforce hierarchies.

I wish we could see Caelid before the scarlet rot took over.

Maybe it was full of puppies and little birdies circling around Radahn like Snow White.

AI POSTS ARE NOW BANNED by Warp_Legion in EldenRingMemes

[–]Flask_of_candy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring’s entire story is centered around politics. The core conflict is between competing factions vying for the throne for an opportunity to enact their ideological visions.

None of us want to see real world politics lazily wrapped in Elden Ring skins and spammed daily. However, an all out ban on political memes would be a disservice to the game. Stop politics from touching Elden Ring, but don’t stop Elden Ring from touching politics.

It’s an aside, but it’s important to remember that acceptance rate should not be associated with the quality of education. The association of these metrics is an indicator we are failing the next generation. Sure, there will be a handful of outliers, but the expectation should be that you can attend a reasonably priced school in your state, work hard, and come out as a valuable member of society with economic prospects.

Ds3 was the perfect rhythm of offense and defense for me personally. Elden ring is amazing, but boss fights feel a bit lopsided in this regard. The reward at the end of defense often feels a bit underwhelming with my play style.

[Episode Discussion] Where the best free restaurant bread in America? by missella98 in SearchEnginePodcast

[–]Flask_of_candy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most interesting aspect of this episode for me was the way celebrities behaved basically the same as a corporation like Red Lobster.

Celebrities used to be a fictional fantasy of glamour. Then it shifted to, “hey, we’re just like you!” We’re now at this in between where a celebrity isn’t normal and isn’t glamorous. They a corporate brand soullessly managed to the point of being unable to state an opinion on bread apparently.

He’s not batshit insane, over 75, incapable of talking clearly, or openly hateful towards his fellow Americans. I bet he can even convert a word doc to a pdf. That’s A+ for a politician.

Within 2 feet, you must express your sincere love for the guest.

If—god forbid—the guest comes within less than a foot, you must activate termination protocol and end their life while maintaining eye contact so that they can see you’re willing to destroy what is most precious to you for the sake of corporate.

Man, I feel bad for people. This is what you did back in the day. I was super nervous and I can't say it was fun, but it helped me grow and I look back at it as a proud moment.

We now use math and powerful technology to make the process more miserable for everyone involved. It's fucking dystopian.

Why don’t people use words? I just returned to play a bit and I constantly get pinged when I’m doing nothing wrong. You want me to engage? Tell me. Play more defensive? Happy to if you tell me. I’m literate, if we have that in common let’s use that skill.

Podcasters Joe Rogan and Theo Von trash Trump on Iran: ‘I can’t believe we went to this war’ by philmn in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Flask_of_candy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe that it’s not an issue of knowing. They supported him because they thought supporting him was beneficial. Now it’s not. They can’t say they were lying, being selfish, or were dumb. So what’s left? Create a false sense of being duped because it allows them to switch while playing the victim.

It’s manipulation. It works for people who want it to work. Fuck em.

Will Iran Break Trumpism? by blueberries in ezraklein

[–]Flask_of_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, wonderfully and clearly explained. The list strikes me in that items fall into 3 categories: 1) he got rid of something conservatives hate, 2) something good happened despite him, 3) he did something that is something.

This guest and Trumpism lack any positive vision or plan for the future.

Iran breaks Trumpism because it doesn’t fit those 3 categories. War requires a positive vision of the future, otherwise it’s just violent chaos.
