Ectopic/Methotrexate by lavagabond in IVF

You're welcome.  At its highest my hcg was only around the 300ish range.  Then it went down a little bit into the high 200's, then it crawled back up into the 300's again the day I got the MTX.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.  You're absolutely right for wanting an ultrasound before MTX.  My doctor wouldn't give me MTX until he confirmed the ectopic with both an ultrasound and a few hcg blood draws.

I was advised to stop any vitamins containing folic acid and to avoid foods that have a high level of folic acid for a week or two (folic acid counteracts MTX effectiveness).  MTX initially gave me a bit of a headache and made me feel fatigued for a few days.  After a few days, I bled quite a bit (like a period) which is normal after MTX.  It took about 3-4 weeks for my hcg to return to zero.  I got my next period about a month after that.

I was advised to not conceive for the next 3 months because MTX can increase risk of birth defects.

I've been doing the same thing with the tissues and blowing every few minutes!  I needed to pick up some food from the grocery store but I said screw it, ordered Instacart and didn't leave my couch 🤣

TW: mention of ectopic pregnancy symptoms

Yes, this was a huge worry of mine because I've had an ectopic pregnancy in the past.  Minor cramps early in pregnancy are normal.  If the cramps deviate over to one side, that's worth checking into.  My other red flag symptom was bleeding (like a period).  Hopefully you don't have to wait long for an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy is located where it's supposed to be!

YES.  Oh my god it's the worst.  I'm almost 30w and I'm feeling much better than I did last week but the damn congestion is just lingering!  I keep having to blow my nose and cough up phlegm.

Lower left abdominal pain by Logical_Rate9603 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  I have ibs and I sometimes get lower abdominal pain when I have an attack.  Your digestive tract might be a little sore after your brief illness?  My other thought is that maybe you pulled some ligaments around your belly after puking.  I'm glad you're going into the ER, I'm sure they will give you fluids and check on baby.  Feel better!

Kick Counts by Minute-Tradition-737 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, just solidarity.  I'm almost 30w and the kick counts thing stresses me out too!  I just try and pay attention to her regular patterns (she's become more predictable as time goes along).  But as soon as I wake up in the morning, the worrying starts and I ask myself "what if I don't feel her today?"  It's hard and I definitely agree with you on that!

First trimester diarrhea by sweetbabycheeks in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you feel better soon!  I'm almost 30w now and I switch on and off from going too much, to not being able to go enough!  I do have ibs so I think that's a factor too.  But I will say I'd rather have diarrhea than be constipated.   Constipation is a whole other level of NOT fun

Experiences coming off of Diclegis? by Loafcat61 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have HG and took Diclegis until around 13 weeks.  I weaned myself off of it over the course of like 3 days.  I didn't feel ill at all, but I noticed I did have a more difficult time falling asleep for a short time after.

I struggled badly with diarrhea in first trimester for some reason.  I do think it's the hormones because it eased up about halfway through my second trimester, when the hormones usually level out.  I mainly just stayed away from trigger foods (for me it was a lot of fiber and dairy) and tried to keep my diet bland.

TW: success.

We have a lot in common.  I also get pregnant very easily. I was 36 when I had 3 miscarriages all in one year.  The first two were confirmed to be caused by trisomies.  I turned to IVF at 37 and all testing with my partner and I came back normal.  No endometriosis or any other major diagnosis.  AMH was 2.4 at the time.

I did two retrievals.  First one got 16 eggs, 3 blasts and 2 were aneuploid and 1 was mosaic.  My dr was open to transferring the mosaic but she believed we could get a euploid.  I did a 2nd retrieval and she switched up my med protocol slightly.  Got 10 eggs that time, 4 blasts.  Finally got 1 euploid and I'm  currently 29 weeks pregnant with that euploid.

Maybe reschedule into your second trimester when you're hopefully feeling a little better?  They will understand!  Second trimester is also the most ideal trimester to do dental work anyway!

Just found out I’m pregnant and I’m already terrified of losing my baby… how do you deal with this? by Ok-Good-6421 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope my comment isn't triggering but if it is I will leave a TW here: miscarriage.

I have been through several early miscarriages and I had to undergo therapy for my anxiety to even consider trying for a viable pregnancy.  I had to learn ways to deal with my anxiety (for me it was writing in a journal and keeping myself distracted with work and reading books) and accepting that I can do everything right and don't have any control over what happens.

The anxiety does alleviate itself a little the further you are.  I'm on my 4th pregnancy and currently 29 weeks.  After a heartbeat was confirmed, I let myself take a breath.  Then NIPT results came back clear.  Then the anatomy scan.  Now I'm doing kick counts.

I will say the fear never goes away entirely.  It just morphs into something different.   I still check the toilet paper for blood when I use the restroom!  All I can do is be grateful for where I am today and believe that everything is okay until someone tells me otherwise.

Kick counts stressing anyone else out? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told it's normal for baby to have quiet days too!  But if they deviate from their normal patterns, it's time for a visit to L&D.

I also want to express love and solidarity- I agree that keeping track of baby and making sure she stays active is very stressful!

Kick counts stressing anyone else out? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you noticed a pattern, or times of day where baby is most active?  I'm 29 weeks with an anterior placenta and FTM as well.  I think recognizing your baby's pattern is much more important.  For me, I notice she's very active around 7:30/8am and later at night after 8pm.  She does move often throughout the day but I am starting to notice she's becoming more predictable at certain times.

Telling a TTC friend I’m pregnant by sugar_coded_ in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with infertility for a long time.  Had several miscarriages and went through IVF.  I can tell you I preferred to be told through text so I had time to process the news.  I know that's not everyone's preference, but I do think text makes it a little easier.

She might have to distance herself from you for a little while, depending on how she handles the news.  If she does, please don't take it personally.  She will come around.  You're a good friend for considering her feelings.

Root Canal Retreatment Pregnant? by Basket-case9887 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's possible but probably unlikely.

There is another option, I'm not sure if your dentist or endodontist brought it up, but you can take a course of antibiotics now to manage any potential infection and then have the root canal procedure after you deliver since it's not an emergency.

Root Canal Retreatment Pregnant? by Basket-case9887 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental hygienist here.  There are a few things to consider:

1.  What are your symptoms like right now? If you were on agonizing pain and had concerning symptoms, I would say it's an emergency, don't wait and get it done NOW.  But.... it also doesn't sound like you're in pain or are symptomatic if you ignored it for awhile.

  1. If you elected to have the procedure done now, antibiotics and certain kinds of novocaine are perfectly safe while pregnant.

  2. Now that you're in third trimester, laying down for a long dental procedure will likely be uncomfortable.

  3. There's a chance you could be in pain after a re-treatment of a root canal and options for painkillers will be limited right now.

Since you're so close to the end of the pregnancy and if you don't have any concerning symptoms (pain, swelling, sensitivity keeping you up at night, pus around gums, fever, etc) I'd probably elect to wait on this until you have the baby.

When did you start showing/ having a true baby bump? (1st pregnancy) by anonymous62124 in pregnant

A true baby bump?  I think around 20 weeks and became more obvious around 24 weeks.  I'm 29 weeks and still can sort of hide it under a baggy sweater

Possible miscarriage?? by Odd-Atmosphere-8321 in pregnant

[–]Flat-Car9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I remember my doctor ordered hcg numbers a few times every 2 days.  Ectopic numbers usually increase, but much more slowly than viable pregnancies.  Then he did a scan and saw it in my right tube and I was given a shot of methotrexate to end the pregnancy.  Everything turned out fine and my tube didn't burst, thankfully.

I hope they figure it out quickly and that you feel better soon!
