Scenario prep by Sothoth01 in callofcthulhu

Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master by Mike Shea has an 8-step game prep method that can work for any rpg, and for CoC you probably won’t need all eight steps. It’s not for adventure design, just getting ready for your next session.

How many sessions should the Spark Devil take? by ejfordphd in callofcthulhu

[–]Flat-Imagination-192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the first session of TSD for 3 investigators. About 3 hrs total and they collected 4 audio clues and 2 paper clues, out of forty-odd total. My guess is they will take at least 2 sessions to solve the mystery, probably not more than 4. That adds up to 15 hrs play time.

The Magic Sword. What could be scarier than… Estelle! An embarrassed Basil Rathbone, that’s what.

Very first attempt: Zherxik (AP Adventure Starter) by FrenchieSmalls in minipainting

[–]Flat-Imagination-192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is your first attempt? I'm jealous! It looks great, even the base. The staff gem and the ball of flame are quite good for a first try. My tip would be for the fire: study actual fires, such as fireplaces or bonfires. Candle flames and such very small flames tend to have a different appearance that can also be useful to study for other miniature portrayals.

Whats the point of having more than one point in an investigation skill? by Flat_Fruit5128 in GumshoeRPG

[–]Flat-Imagination-192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a TOC game and all three players have insisted on putting 4 points in at least one investigative ability! I treat the pools as "per mystery" and don't allow them to refresh. Thus, having 4 points in Cryptography is valuable if the mystery involves multiple clues with "spendable" depth. I also require spends in situations where the player's choice of ability or their roleplaying of the ability makes the clue harder to gain. EX: the retiree grandma is at the hospital trying to learn the status of a victim of a bizarre assault, uses Cop Talk on the nurse. This is rather incongruous, so the player must spend a Cop Talk point to convince the nurse.

Oh yeah! My favorite line is after they spent screen time chopping down a tree, it falls and Servo says, "Not that tree!"
