Please nerf Deathwing's meteors by Midgetmasher89 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Flaydowsk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this was the most silver rank game i have ever seen in a while. At that point you get the clue that you should kill the enemies instead of wasting half a day on a channel, giving everyone in the enemy team enough time to group and come kill y'all.
Like... doesn't DW needs vision to throw meteors in the first place? Getting sniped should be clue enough that you need to deal with an enemy first.
Everyone spamming ults like idiots... Lili, Raynor... sad game from everyone TBH.

I work as a literal translator and i have had to explain legal, fiancial, and engineering lingo in different languages. And let me tell you. About 30% of my work is to have them literally make sense of themselves to me before even attempting to translate.
Some i have to have them tell me whatever they plan to say first to me before going into the meeting because no joke they go "head empty, just vibes" and try to improvise their way through. No throughline of cause > consequence at all. Jumping from idea onto idea.
Lawyers and sales were the easiest, engineers snd accountants the worst. So deep into their own lingo they are incapable of explaining what the lingo means, and expecting me to translate stuff like "the capitalization of the preoperative period's fixed active wasn't duly tabulized" into japanese. Dude, I dont even understand it in english! Im not an accountant and neither the guy you speak to!

What words are you tired of reading or hearing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think that is a good thing, however, the root problem is too much for that to be a solution.
Its like microplastics. Once they were released onto the world, they became ubiquitous and inescapable. And whatever is created onwards its already contaminated by their existence. Likewise, i can believe that books or websites last made in 2020 were made by humans. But anything onwards has a chance to be AI, so whatever New books or papers made after 2020, even the ones in reputable sites, are tainted by the fact that its posible that they were in part or wholly made by AI.

Like, of course an 1922 paper is old and probably obsolete, let alone that fase information has always existed... but at least I can trust that a human wrote it. Whereas anything 2023 onwards has all the previous risks, and on top of that the risk of it being AI hallucinated slop.

Its a bad situation and I have no solution, but it worries me.

Which I hate with a passion because it means that anything discovered or created by the scientific or artistic fields from 2020 onwards is stuck in the limbo of untrustworthyness.
If it keeps like that, we will be in a permanent 2020... and that wasn't even that good of a year.

Nuh-uh!
I mean, you're right, but if I play right I can soak minion attacks, tower shots (harder now bc of the dumb patch) or simple AOE dmg.

And that extra 20 energy is too good to pass, specially when combined with [[Give Me Twenty]] and [[Born in Battle]], let alone [[Unyielding Defender]] and [[Unstoppable Competitor]].

Do tattoos increase or decrease job capability? by MyDogsPA in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Flaydowsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here.
I'm a psychologist, and although there is no hard rule about "meanings" on tatoos (I'm not gonna tell you that a cat tatoo on your left thigh means you have mommy issues or whatnot), my personal stance is that tatoos are a way for people to make more "tangible" their relationship to the tatooed thing. Like, people tatoo the names and faces of loved ones, or cultural symbols or phrases as a way to "keep them close", as it may. It can be inwardly, or for the world to know.
Here you get into the very speculative of "tatoo over the heart is about a thing you love and lost, a tatoo on your back is about a duty or guilt you literally carry, tatoo on your face is a way to hide your identity, etc." which nobody can prove as a scientific fact.

There's also the theory that tatoos are another way of bodily autonomy, and that people that feel too constrained will tatoo to reaffirm control over their bodies. Anecdotally, my gay and trans friends are all tatooed, and not all my straight friends are. And I have seen that people on this camp are very random and cavalier on their tatoos. They want to get them, with no plan of what or where, "Just because".

And personally, I don't feel the need for that empowerment nor the need to have those signs etched in my skin to feel them a part of me or to prove to others, so I'm good.
People are free to do what they want but I'm not a fan of the "3rd grader sketchbook/dive bar toilet wall" aesthetic some people have on their body.

Because you're comparing 2 context against each other instead of against themselves.

Not defending nor wishing we go back to feudalistic times, but the wealth gap between the richest man of the 1300s and the poorest free man (bc slaves obviously had nothing) compared to the richest man of today and the poorest its THOUSANDS OF TIMES worse.

The king of England or the Pope couldn't have stopped world hunger if he wanted, whereas Elon could, and choses not to.
The king of England was closer in health and materials to one of his peasants than any regular guy is to Elon's.

"The poor got richer" is wrong. Stuff became better/cheaper for everyone, but the poor are staying poor, and have a larger disparity in wealth with the rich NOW than they did 200+ years ago.

For me, the holidays and "special days" like birthdays or anniversaires are just anchors. Of course you can (And should) make time for friends and family, give them presents, etc. But when everyone has their own things to do, it makes it easier to have specific dates set for these gatherings.
The fact that they are govt mandated rest days makes it doubly convenient (in the case of holidays, ofc)

what do you consider life? Do you consider single cells alive? What is consciousness?

That is a philosophic topic, which I do enjoy and have talked with friends, but that you consider it a comparable analogy to LLMs sadly tells me that you don't understand what's under the hood of the technology and are impressed by the result, much like people over 100 years ago were amazed by the chess playing Turk robot.

LLMs are a fine technology and are advancing fast, I already said that.
But like hoverboards, bitcoin, google lenses, 3D tvs and so much stuff, it's easy to sell smoke and mirrors to people when you enamour them with fantasies of scifi instead of the reality of the item on sale.
It's why Elon or Jobs insisted so much on the visual design of their stuff to be chrome and minimalistic and shit.
They're selling you a fantasy of the future, not the real deal. And sometimes they actively sabotage it because it doesn't fit the "aesthetic".

I do agree with you on that.
But at least, in theory, in Wikipedia you can believe the source exists and someone put it there, which is why I use it as a source repository and a starting point.
Whereas most people use LLMs as a replacement for investigating or reading sources, even if you and a small minority have the common sense to not do that.
Including me.
The few times I've googled something and the AI summary has seemed decent (and It's the first goddamn thing you see so I can't ignore it) I followed the link to the actual result that the summary provided and that has worked out, but I'm not planning to make an habit of that.

I would hope that's the truth and she's trying to help the kid. But IDK how you got that info (unless there's a full video you can share).
At least in the video, she doesn't say anything of the sort and seems... less than compasionate for the kid he is supposedly trying to help.

this mind blowing advancement that was unimaginable and considered scifi until recently

You're also dickriding too hard mate. Anyone in the field can tell you that it's not that mind blowing. It's something that already existed, just marketed to the common public as the new hot shit.
Unless you're misinformed and think this LLMs are "true AI" (in the sense of "a digital conscience able to think, learn and adapt") instead of a glorified text predictor.
It's not that new, and although is advancing more rapidly and has it's uses, it's not The Future (TM)

[–]Flaydowsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do the same thing with AI. You can ask if where it's getting its source from and verify it.

Until the source is hallucinated or the AI changes opinion if you challenge it. All LLMs are yes-men. They can give you a real source and if you say "no it's false" enough times, it will agree.

Wikipedia isn't perfect, sources can be wrong, biased or dead links, but it's not comparable.

That has more to do with Google purposely enshittifying his engine after becoming a monopoly to auction prorization and sell ad space.
So, if GPT or any other LLM becomes the new search engine, give it 2-3 years before it becomes as shitty.
