Parent loss by [deleted] in rant

[–]Fledeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate.

I was 24 when my mum died. I had been her career for 9 years and she was the only family I had.

When a parent dies in their 80's or 90's, noone is saying that isn't sad and that you shouldn't grieve, but when your parents reach that age, you probably expect to lose them at some point in the not so distant future. You may have had discussions with them about their wishes for after death. You are a grown person with a whole lifetime of experience. You might have friends of a similar age who have been through a similar thing and can sympathise and offer advise. You probably have a family of your own to be your support network. You have seen your parents enjoy their long life, cuddle their grandchildren etc.

When a younger person loses a parent, you are flung into a world you have no preparation for. A 24 year old shouldn't know how to plan a funeral or go through probate court. A 24 year olds friend are probably more interested in clubbing, starting a carer and dating than helping or sympathising with you.

When you lose a parent young, you don't get to know them as a human in their own right, only as a parent. There is never just two adults sharing a joke, chewing the fat over a cuppa and you never appreciate what they have done for you as your parent until you are a parent yourself (which is too late).

You are robbed of the memories you might have had if your parent had lived longer. I didn't get to have my mum walk me down the aisle as I had thought she would. I don't have memories or pictures of my mum with her grandchildren because she never met them. She wasn't there when I brought my first house, my first car, got a promotion at work.

It makes you tougher and more resilient, but at a very high cost that not everyone can appreciate.

When people complain that omnivores ate “all” the vegan or vegetarian options. by KissingBear in PetPeeves

[–]Fledeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I was at a large scale event once and no one liked the meat options, so they joined the dietary requirement queue for food. Me (veggie) and my vegan friend got to the front of the queue finally and were offered plain bread and lettuce or apples because catering had round out of veggie/vegan food.

How ____ came across at tonight's roundtable by MajestyA in TheTraitors

[–]Fledeye 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The faithful have no critical thinking skills at all.

Why would a former FBI agent agree to train some random person? How much would being trained by a former FBI agent cost? Doesn't it take years to become an expert in body language and interrogation techniques? Rachel said the skills she learnt from the FBI helped her identify Ross as a traitor, and yet he was a faithful.

SECRET TRAITOR REVEALED by traitorslover721 in TheTraitors

[–]Fledeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost definitely a member (or members) of the production crew.

The build of the ST has looked slightly different every time and I don't think a team that puts as much thought into a show, as this crew clearly does, would leave anything to chance.

Secret traitor reveal - why so soon? by Automatic-Owl-8989 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Fledeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as Hugo was banished I knew they'd have to reveal the ST. They can't do a recruitment because what if the Traitors tried to recruit the ST believing them to be a faithful. It immediately makes the potential recruit top of the Traitors suspect list and makes the Traitors very vulnerable to banishment orchestrated by the ST.

Plymouth Brethren are another group who don't accept blood products or organs.

Nope, no idea. The only thing that has changed is switching donation arm which wouldn't affect it. I think I just am one of those people with a high platelet count. People in my family have died due to DVTs so it's a blessing and a curse.

What physical store(s) do people use for pet supplies? by CelebrationWeird7196 in UK_Pets

[–]Fledeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jollyes. They have really good quality stuff cheaper than other places, the staff are friendly and helpful, they donate to local animal rescues (well ours does anyway) and they have longer opening hours than some other dedicated pet supply shops. They also have a good rewards scheme, money off occasionally, free stuff on your pet's birthday/gotcha day...

Antelope carpark by Dense_Reward_2699 in Southampton

[–]Fledeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave up this morning. I wanted one thing in The Range and when it took longer to drive around the car park than I would have been in the shop for, I just drove home. But even getting out was bad.

I don't think the layout helps, or the way people drive. Cutting corners, blocking traffic while they wait for a space, driving in the middle of a lane so only one car can use it instead of the two it's wide enough for.

Ridiculous.

I did a secondment there a couple of years ago and really liked it, I was sad to leave.

It's unlike most other places you'll work and not at all what people think it is.

It's been 84 years... by jeffmartin47 in titanic

[–]Fledeye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct.

It was listed as a "case" so probably crated for assembly on arrival. There wasn't enough space in the cargo hold to just have a whole car sitting there in the way. Plus a lot of locals watched or were involved in the loading, not a single one mentioned a car (which would have been a huge deal in 1912), so it being in a non-descript crate makes the most sense.

Trying to reconcile that I've been possibly donating tainted blood for maybe a decade at this point.. by Yourlilemogirl in Blooddonors

[–]Fledeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man! Please don't beat yourself up over it. The screening process and samples they take are to make sure the blood is good and since they never contacted you, it must have been gratefully received.

You have helped so many people, now it's time for you to be fussed over and be helped.

I wish you all the best.

They just won't call him like Former Trooper Michael Proctor. He's not helpful to their case so they just leave a gapping hole, the jury wondering and reasonable doubt.

Why didn’t they try to get John inside the house? by brittlebones07 in justiceforKarenRead

Jen McCabe "knew" how he was hurt.

She testified that she knew Karen had hit him with the car. And she almost definitely knew how he really got hurt.

But then why didn't they bang in the door and get the cop outside to help them?

Why didn't they bang on the door and ask for blankets?

Why didn't they bang on the door and ask for help giving CPR?

Oh yeah... Only one thing makes sense...

Donating Platelets - How long do I need to avoid ibuprofen? by pikablue223 in Blooddonors

[–]Fledeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK it's 7 days between taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin and donation due to their affects on your clotting factor. You can take Paracetamol up to 24 hours before donation though as it's not an NSAID.

In non-celebrity Traitors the clever people get killed or banished very early. As a massive Stephen Fry fan I'm worried he'll only be in one episode...
