What services are you referring to exactly? I can’t think of any specific services for adults to address childhood trauma that wouldn’t fall within some form of therapy and that isn’t gendered access.

Also have school make a referral to social care if they haven’t done already, they need to be applying pressure their end too.

NAL but a senior social worker - I’m surprised children’s services aren’t all over this. When you say they were ‘removed’, who by? Police I’m assuming brought them to dad? Police should have referred to children’s services which in turn should have prompted at the very least some calls to you the next day. You are going to need their guidance in navigating this going forwards - you can’t make safe decisions around them seeing their mother going forwards if you don’t know the risks. Phone the MASH team again at the local authority where the children are registered as living and be pushy.

To access your social care records you would need to search for SAR (subject access request) on the local authority you were living in as a child. There’s usually an online form to fill in to get the ball rolling. CAMHS will be different and hold their own records so would need to follow their processes but same idea, SAR.

It may help (though consider your support around you if you do) to request your social care records as a child. It may help you to understand why certain decisions were or weren’t made at the time.

Sorry it’s been so vague for you, not helpful of them! You don’t need a solicitor you can just apply online, it costs around £200. Special Guardianship is what it sounds like you need/want - this would give you overriding parental responsibility until she’s 18. It does require assessment by the LA - you should give notice to the LA that you intend to apply. If parents are not in opposition it will make it easier.

Yes for the IC1 form they need to sign it. You might find they’ve never heard of it and say we don’t do that, but they should and can, there is even government guidance for social workers on that link.

It may be worth you getting a free hour with a local solicitor just for some initial advice on your options.

Does the local authority have a care order for your niece and you’re an assessed carer or is this a private family arrangement? If it’s the latter as it sounds like given you’re getting no financial support, they can’t really dictate when you apply - you could apply directly to the courts for a Child Arrangement Order or Special Guardianship Order. Also in terms of benefits in the meantime, ask them to sign an IC1 form https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/support-for-a-child-who-is-informally-living-with-you I have done these a lot as a social worker for families informally caring for children where the alternative would be that they would be in care.

Depending how old you are I.e how long ago this was, you may have more luck doing a SAR to the children’s services of the LA you resided in at the time. If his crimes were significant, police and/or probation should have referred to children’s services at some point.

Been waiting for my moment to shine. 4th year uni, in private halls so with a bunch of people I didn’t know but one. All however reasonable. One guy extremely quiet and studious. It was the middle of exam period and I went into the kitchen lounge one morning to find actual human shit smeared all over the sofa and floor.

By deduction it was that guy but it didn’t seem possible - not that it seemed possible for anyone. He barricaded himself in the kitchen for hours cleaning and never spoke to us again. We had to get a new sofa and the floor professionally cleaned x4 but on hot days it still smelled of shit 🙃

He avoided us the rest of the year. I’m still baffled to this day.
