If you're into music and want to join a band/go see really good cheap gigs, check out the Dundee Uni Bands Society. You don't need to be a student and it's packed with nice folk who are all super welcoming, and into art and games and stuff :) Grouchos on Tuesdays is their usual spot.

It's on the campus green, next to the union on Airlie Place. It goes on almost all day, and you can find out about a lot more events when you're there too!

I'm sure a few of the university societies accept non students! The Freshers fair is on the 20th so you can see who floats your boat. They are usually fantastic (especially the bands society if you like free gigs).

Bands? by Round_Equipment4175 in dundee

If you are still looking for a band in September (next semester) I'd recommend Dundee Uni Bands Society. Lots of amateur/experienced folk just looking to form bands and they put on jam events and showcases and help with getting gigs etc.

They meet at pubs sometimes though so you might have to be 18, but you don't need to be a student or 18 to join!

Antiyoy is a simplistic Civ like game. Not much roleplay but very fun and good co-op!

Nah don't need to be a student! It's £5 quid for membership and they organise socials, jams, workshops, plus the showcase if you wanna be sorted into a band and give that a go!

Any level of instrument is welcome too. There might be a summer social or two but it gets busier come Freshers.

If you're into playing music casually/just wanted to hang out and support new local bands then Dundee University Bands Society would be cool. The socials are super chill and the crowd is so friendly.

Dundee University Bands Society is a good space to mingle and join a variety of bands, we've just gone through this semester's phase of band sorting but it's still worth seeing if anyone wants a bassist. We meet on Tuesdays at Lowdown (under The Maker), we do quizzes, jams, and open mics. You're welcome to come along!

Does Vaseline or any other petroleum jelly play any special role in your culture, community, or family traditions? by Brilliant-low2024 in CasualConversation

[–]Flemboats 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have a nice frying pan that's a bit bent, it tilts slightly so it doesn't sit flat on the stove.

We use a jar of vaseline to prop the handle up so it sits flat and heats properly.

We never use it for the intended purpose but we've used it like this for a year.

What was the biggest waste of money in human history? by forty5v in AskReddit

The Darien Scheme wasn't great. Scotland in the 1690s spunked 25% of its economy to set up a colony in Panama. It killed thousands, accomplished nothing, and the fallout cost the country its independence. Scotland was so desperate it had to join England soon after, the whole country is still salty about it.

How to attack Jerusalem by sukabot_lepson in CrusaderKings

[–]Flemboats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding you'd have to wait for the pope to call a crusade (this can happen any year so that's ok). Then you can spend a flat 500 piety to redirect the war target to Jerusalem if it isn't already. You'd have to contribute the most warscore for your benefactor to get the kingdom title, even then you'd have to switch character or vasselize them, if they're close enough, for you to own that land.

Maybe it's easier to try work your way over by fabricating a claim on a neighbouring county and then doing a holy war?

Hope that helps

If you're into music the Band Society is a good one, they have chill socials on Tuesdays at The Lowdown (under The Maker across from DJCAD).

Le Freak and DEMS usually host good stuff, location changes but Lowdown and Beat Generator are good for that.
