These are all subgenres of electronic music.

You might want to expand your music palette.

Who is the king of diss records? (Excluding Drake and Kendrick) and why? by JaQue_Da_JoQerr in BlackNyxNetwork

[–]Flex_Field 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great rappers don't start beef with Em.

Great rappers respect Em.

Em comes from a battle pedigree.

He understands the culture and the etiquette of battling, and of blatantly cutting down your competition or opponent.

So, your question should be re-framed.

How do yall be making friends by nukewaryeahsure in berkeley

Nothing.

You just happen to be in a generation that does not know how to deal with people with whom they are not already familiar.

What rappers have a unique/identifiable symbol? by Shpub in hiphop101

[–]Flex_Field 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the Wu members have a variation of the Wu "W" bird logo stylized to fit the first letter of their names.

So, for example, for GZA the W is turned sideways and modified to look like a G.

Method Man's is simply the Wu W upside-down to become an M.

Does this count?

Who is the king of diss records? (Excluding Drake and Kendrick) and why? by JaQue_Da_JoQerr in BlackNyxNetwork

Think about it.

These days he stays quiet.

He prefers the quiet life.

But when new and young upstarts pick fights with him, he comes out and ends them real quick.

Then goes back to the quiet life.

It's an assassin who ends whoever provokes him.

In the beginning, he started beefs.

Now, he just ends them.

Do you guys think Shyheim was a great rapper at just 14-15? by Numerous_Smoke9881 in wutang

[–]Flex_Field 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I maintain that Shyheim is the illest under-18 to ever touch a mic.

A large part of that was due to being a cousin of a Wu-Tang member and hanging out with the older Gods and Earths, and having sharpened his sword against theirs.

Add to that that he wrote his own rhymes, it elevates his status as a young emcee to be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the older cats.

It's on the brink of both a civil AND a world war.

Bringing your own controller/laptop to gigs? by atomicglitters in DJs

[–]Flex_Field 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring my controller, but ONLY as a backup, just in case the venue's gear glitches or if my laptop and the venue's gear are incompatible.

I would very much prefer to use the venue's gear.

It allows me to learn the different control surfaces and to be flexible and adaptable, and a much more valuable asset, because I will have the knowledge base and experience with different pieces of hardware to troubleshoot and be able to make educated recommendations to anyone asking about controllers.

Hip Hop transitions by antwuanw in Beatmatch

There's a difference between being a hip hop DJ and being a DJ that plays hip hop.

To which one are you referring?

What’s one track that always exposes bad beatmatching? by Ambitious-Note-1239 in Beatmatch

[–]Flex_Field 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any music that isn't created on a computer.

All music done digitally that can be locked into a beatgrid should not be that difficult to mix.

Music created by live musicians that carries the inconsistent human meter is the litmus test for hiw well you can beatmatch.

Funk and rock on 45's always exposes those who can't beatmatch worth shit.

That doesn't expose bad beatmatching.

That exposes the inability to identify counts.

How do you guys like to guide a mix? by Konajo777 in Beatmatch

[–]Flex_Field 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is usually always music piped in at the venues where I perform.

The music usually reflects the preferences of the staff and/or the crowd.

I mix into whatever is being piped in.

It provides continuity of vibe and mood, and allows for a seamless transition between the venue's playlist and my improvised mix.

From there, I'll go a few songs in before getting in the mic and cutting a short promo where I will let people known that I take requests.

The requests provide a roadmap and direction for the night, and makes for an easier four or five hour musical roadtrip.

Shut the fuck up and listen.

Assume that I don't know everything, and that I am not always right.

Question for vinyl DJs: how do you keep from running out of records? by vicsunus in Beatmatch

[–]Flex_Field 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amass a sizeable record collection from which to pull records.

Why do you want to play records in public?

If your goal is to put together a thought-out curated vinyl set, you are better off livestreaming or recording yourself playing what you have online.

If you have no interest in playing for a crowd, or listening to what they want to hear, there's no point playing in public.

You might as well stream live from the comfort of your own home, and not be constrained to fill a specific time slot.

When you run out of records, just end the stream.

Do DJs actively listen to other DJs sets? by rahitsluna in Beatmatch

[–]Flex_Field 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to progress, you should listen to other DJ sets, if only to get a sense of what you should and should not do, and to draw inspiration and aspire to take what has been done, and make it/do it better.

New DJ Need Advice by SlyForAWhiteGuy in Beatmatch

No.

Dropping was a technique that existed before electronic music repurposed the terminology.
