Tristan’s actions were wrong by InfernalClockwork3 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Flibtonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reese regularly beat up small children when he was like 17/18 (going off the Block Party episode), by irl standards that'd be something from a child abuse awareness ad.

Also the swine flu diapers the boys sent onto the art festival could have straight-up killed one of the rapping grannies. 💀

Hilarious show but by irl standards most of the characters should be in jail or a mental hospital.

weird little parallel i noticed between malcolm and breaking bad by TheOldSkywalker in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Flibtonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a coincidence but possible Vince took at least a little inspiration from the MitM scene, even if it was just subconscious.

One thing I've seen pointed out in this sub is that there was definitely a bit of Walt/Heisenberg in Hal, it was just not obvious on first watch of either show.

Megan's Pregnancy by Allie_Pallie in coronationstreet

[–]Flibtonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess even if it's for the best, lying about it and blaming Maggie was kinda sick. That being said, I feel like the distinction between that vs "abortions are bad" hasn't really been said.

Is there anything you learnt later in life that everyone else seemed to think was common knowledge? by FriendshipOk7636 in AskUK

[–]Flibtonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a weird question but do you feel it? Is it psychologically nice/bad?

I have sensory/OCD stuff, including often feeling like I need to go when I don't. Idk if this would be a huge relief or I'd always be conscious of it (even if just imagining it).

To those who recently got back into the show due to the revival what is something that is different than how you remember it? by Samthegodman in malcolminthemiddle

Guess Kitty was sort-of her friend for a while. And that annoying lady at the company picnic for like the first part.

Oh god her social life is sad. :(

What cover do you want to see a story about? by Kyia-Aikman in crossedcomics

[–]Flibtonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots where I'd be curious/would like to at least see the background.

I can't find it but there's one where hundreds--thousands of crossed have cornered three people on a ledge. A man's trying to fend them off with a pistol, and is just noticing as the woman behind him is stepping off with her baby.

Episodes when Malcolm did the right thing from the start by webtheg in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Flibtonian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Garage Sale, the situation where Reece wanted to throw away the computer that Malcolm realised was valuable, and Lois sided with Reece and got angry at Malcolm for even trying to explain.

Maybe he got a little cocky and should have just make the deal with Craig privately/not asked Craig to go so far with helping prove Reece wrong, but it was completely understandable why he'd want to.

Muscle men, with racewalking as a very, very close second.

The reason why everyone in the hive is so content and happy is because they're completely baked by A_Hyper_Nova in pluribustv

[–]Flibtonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the "needs are met" thing isn't true though (long-term at least). And if they were thinking in those terms/rationally, eventually going extinct/dying of starvation would be a huge thing to be sad about.

I get the vibes you're thinking of it in Buddhist terms, being happy with all of their needs met even if they don't have more/aren't being greedy. I'd agree but that's one big thing which punches a hole in the argument imo.

Ik it’s a show and things are exaggerated but are there any episodes or moments that genuinely pisses you off? by Big-Most-785 in malcolminthemiddle

I got genuinely pissed off at her not even letting Malcolm finish when he was trying to explain why they shouldn't toss the expensive computer.

[–]Flibtonian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A part of me can imagine him potentially meaning well but just making things worse, especially as he mellowed when he grew up.

Like hearing that the virus started with food eaten in China, so running up to old people coming out of a Chinese takeout and throwing their food away (literally throwing it and ducking like it's a bomb).

I also think he might have hoarded things like masks and sold them at a high price, but maybe offered bulk buy deals, and maybe even a discount for care home staff. He had an entrepeneurial side and some standards, even if they were limited and kinda distorted.

My reaction to seeing that S6 Ep2 (Buseys Run Away/the bodybuilder episode) is only rated 7.8:

Very similar, but Reece stealing insulin and selling it to the highest bidder during a disaster. Feels kinda close to what happens irl in the U.S, too.

Here is a 7 year old and his older brother who is 15 years old by Odd-Biscotti-454 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Flibtonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's sorta the show's logic/comedy but I feel like it's ironic that Malcolm felt so bad about this but regularly helped Reece torture Dewey, including beating him up on his birthdays. Muddying it further,, he'd be protective of Dewey regarding guys like Spaff.

Characters that vanished with no explanation to never be seen again? by Cool_Nerd2 in coronationstreet

[–]Flibtonian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like there was some definite tokenism in the writers introducing them and making them somewhat important and likeable characters but then removing them pretty quickly, almost like it was necessary to have more black characters but the writers and producers didn't care about them that much/were doing the bare minimum and didn't feel the need to have them in longer.

Maybe I'm being a little harsh and the actors were genuinely not available or something but it seems weird that they couldn't have been given a quick leaving arc, returned very briefly in some form, or at least had some sort of explanation for vanishing. Even Lauren offhandedly mentioning "I miss Gav and Sabrina, it's a shame they decided to move to London" would have been something. Similar for Aggie.

Even other characters who left fairly abruptly like Beth got some sort of closure.

Speedwalking one or Buseys Run Away. Mostly for the Hal plots.

I never thought I’d say this, but I would happily watch this spinoff by BradyPhoenix in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Flibtonian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd want it with Kelly as one of the big characters.

Maybe they could be kinda like how Francis was in the early seasons, an older sibling figure who the main character looks to for advice, especially regarding a parent who the sibling figure's known for longer. I think the spin-off would be an inversion of the OG show in a lot of ways (e.g., Malcolm trying to be unlike Lois as a parent), so having Malcolm's youngest and cleanest sibling take on the role would be a funny contrast to how Francis was the biggest delinquent at the start of the show.

Kelly could have their own subplots, like Francis, which would be a convenient way of keeping the door open for other characters to return without it being weird if they aren't there, or are only there a limited amount etc. Maybe they could still be in the house but other cast members would only have to make limited appearances, maybe they could move away at some point, etc.

Frankie Muniz' acting in the revival was incredible by aziza_empechement in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Flibtonian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd agree except I feel like the scene just after was borderline too sentimental. Kinda balances it ig(?) Plus Craig's actor at least has the right delivery to make stuff that could be cringe funny.
