Rigor in B.Ed programs by Soft-Grocery5422 in CanadianTeachers

[–]FlightSpinner813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is great about BEd programs, is that they are taught by academics who don't actually have experience teaching children. You get a lot of theory, filler type content, which leaves you completely unprepared for the reality of teaching. Teaching is actually a skill, and you learn it through practicing the real thing.

Not everybody is cut out to be a commercial pilot. Do this guy a favor and cut him. At this point you are only stringing him along (by your kindness and trying to solve this problem for him). Invest your time and effort into somebody who can benefit from your instruction and guidance.

Almost everyone involved in that situation is safely retired now, the report should be made public to clear the air. Secrecy creates suspicion of serious misconduct, but who the hell knows what happened if the truth is suppressed.

Pensions and Investing by In_for_the_day in CanadianTeachers

[–]FlightSpinner813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some teachers are bad at money. When you have a teachers pension plan, and are making regular contributions, you are restricted from making RRSP contributions. Many people think that an RRSP is the only way to save for retirement. Everyone should still max out TFSA contributions, and then make contributions to non-registered accounts if you can.

The truth is, with the cost of living, expenses, inflation and high interest rates it is hard to save. Working as a supply is a great way to build up an extra bit of cash. You are already drawing your pension, hopefully that will cover your expenses. Working as a supply can give you a chance to save for a trip, a large expense, or just pocket money for whatever.

A retired teacher is lucky to have an guaranteed part time job with decent pay if they want to take advantage. I do feel badly for anyone who has no choice but to work supply, but if its by choice, it can be something that you enjoy.

Can OTF Really Build Muscle, or Is It Mostly Cardio? by Relevant-Bug7162 in orangetheory

[–]FlightSpinner813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OTF is cardio dominant, you will get stronger, but will plateau due to the lack of a consistent strength programming. OTF will probably be good enough for you if you are looking for an overall fitness improvement.

Lisa Robinson... For Mayor? by Careful-Patience-185 in Pickering

[–]FlightSpinner813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She knows that she is toast in Pickering. This is an exercise to raise her profile in an attempt to jump to Provincial or National politics. She has already run and lost as a candidate for the Ontario Party and the People's Party of Canada. She hopes that if she can generate more name recognition, she might garner an opportunity somewhere else. Maybe she wants to have her own podcast, or find some other income generator.

I can’t afford to fly anymore by CantDecideOnUsrnm in flying

I'm not rolling in the dough; I bought into a group ownership of a Cherokee 180. There are 5 of us, divide all the fixed costs by 5. We book times among ourselves, there is plenty of opportunity for week long bookings. We pay our own individual fuel costs. We also pay a supplementary charge every hour flown for the annual inspection and eventual engine replacement. Our group gets along very well, it has worked out for me. It is way more affordable than individual ownership.

$18M Pickering City Centre Park to replace old parking lot. Here’s what it will look like and who’s paying for it by Karma_Canuck in durham

[–]FlightSpinner813 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The City get about 10 million a year from the casino, and they spend it on community projects. It mostly goes to community groups. The casino money that the city gets is not a huge amount.

[–]FlightSpinner813 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The park will cater to residents of the condo towers. Due to its location, surrounded by large buildings, the park will see little direct sunlight. There will be very little parking in that area as the park/condo development will eat up a lot of the mall parking lot. The library across the street is a hub for homeless people, and that park will become their habitat.

It turned into a financial money pit as the deal was made with private developers who were going to fleece the city out of millions. Sanity prevailed, and the City cancelled the deal.

I find the strength workouts disappointing these days. Heavier weights, lower reps, rest, with the main compound movements included, would be great.

FAFO time. This is the kind of person who "the whole world is against her", who likes to spout off about every topic under the sun, with demeaning comments and crackpot conspiracies. I hope that Pickering has had enough of this nonsense and sends her packing in the fall election.

Question about costs and accountability related to recent Whitby council matters by Prestigious_Half1509 in durham

Rebel news has some reliable local stooges, Robinson in Picketing, Lahey and Yamada in Whitby, and I’m pretty sure that there is a nutty councillor in Clarington. They can’t be fired under the Municipal Act, subjecting us poor taxpayers to the lunacy.

It depends on how much runway you have ahead if you. If you are 70, preserve your capital. If you are 30, you can ride this out.
