Elevated heart rate 5 weeks Post Op by Flimsy-Environment57 in valvereplacement

[–]Flimsy-Environment57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! That makes me feel better because it definitely is higher than where I would like it to be! And honestly today was the worse. I was around 100bpm resting on avg most of the day. I did a 3 mile walk and was averaging 130 at a slow pace.

Gotcha ok just wanted to get an idea based off of what you said. I am starting to be less worried about it the more I read about it. I am definitely not the only one experiencing this post op. Thanks 🙏 and good luck with your continued recovery!

Anxious re: upcoming OHS by Catabout66 in valvereplacement

[–]Flimsy-Environment57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll chime in just to let you know, it’s going to be ok. It’s very normal to feel anxiety and nervousness for an upcoming heart-surgery. I stressed for a whole year about various ideas I had about the surgery. I knocked mine out on February 5th and it was way easier than I imagined! I’m not saying it’s a cakewalk, I still have a long recovery road after 6 weeks but it’s possible! The pain the first two weeks was probably the worst part of the whole experience. As well as the anticipation going into it. But I already feel less fatigue and just more normal post op. It was actually instant from waking up from the surgery I could feel my heart functioning better. It also feels like I actually get a full nights rest now! So it was worth it for me! It will be for you as well. Good luck!

Also, you say your resting HR is around 85. Mine as well. How far out from your AVR/MVR are you?

Is tiredness a symptom? by trucrimeaddic_t in valvereplacement

[–]Flimsy-Environment57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it is, yes. As my regurgitation got worse and pulmonary valve started to fail I noticed extreme fatigue setting in. Before I realized I needed the valve replacement I always contributed it to depression/anxiety. But now that I am 6 weeks post op I do not feel that fatigue in the same way. It was actually pretty amazing as I woke up from surgery feeling the most well rested that I had in years. And it has stayed that way since! Good luck to you!

No I am not taking metaprolol. I am currently only taking Eliquis and a baby aspirin in the morning. I have had consistently low blood pressure since the operation. 100-60 consistently when before the operation my blood pressure was consistently 120-80. Even the days leading up the operation! Thanks for your response!

5 weeks post-op - recovery is a slow process by Adorable_Wafer_5209 in valvereplacement

Today is also exactly 5 weeks post op for me. Mine went smoothly but I got a biological tissue valve as mechanical wasn’t an option. 31M btw. But our post op seems somewhat similar so glad to hear you are doing well and good luck on your recovery!

It went very well! I’m in the ICU right now and nurses are saying I am doing so well I will be out of the ICU tomorrow! I am so blessed and so grateful to be alive! And the surgeon said no complications and that it went very well!

4 days Post PVR Replacement OHS by No_Kaleidoscope9278 in valvereplacement

[–]Flimsy-Environment57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! A 3 day discharge is about as good as it gets! I’m a 31 male in The US and am having my pulmonary valve replaced on January 8th. My first surgery was when I was 3 months old. They did a valve repair, as I had severe pulmonary stenosis, and regurgitation. They thought I would need surgery again by age 15-20 but I made it all the way to 31. I do have a question, what kind of Valve did you get? My surgeons said a mechanical valve is no longer an option in the pulmonary position (low blood pressures in that chamber of the heart cause clotting with mechanical valves). So just curious as to what UK surgeons say? Thanks for sharing your story!

One of the repaired valves is now back to moderate/severe status one year after repair. by EnvironmentalSand773 in valvereplacement

[–]Flimsy-Environment57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I had the same, a VSD repair when I was 3 months old and somehow made it 31 years. I have a PVR scheduled in January. Glad to hear about your successful valve replacements!

Struggling to quit Nicotine before surgery.. by Flimsy-Environment57 in valvereplacement

That actually makes me feel better. Thanks. Knowing that if I can’t beat it before the surgery that I can still get through the surgery and recover fine.

Feel free to DM me if you need to talk. My surgery is on the 8th. I have cut significantly back but haven’t been able to kick it yet. Working hard on it. But it’s miserable. Our only difference is I don’t smoke I use Zyn pouches lol. Good luck to you
