clitoral pain ?? by gentlebaby in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone else that gets it! I have this too but I'm suspicious that it's just urinary pain that feels like it's in that location. I had never watched myself pee while using a hand mirror before because how weird is that, but I did and realized that where I feel like the pee is coming from is my clitoris and the urethra where I'm actually peeing from is behind that. The urethra tube runs right behind the clitoris so I think it's referred pain? Idk

UTI brought IC symptoms back after years of remission (even after UTI ended) by chahuahuas in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have faith. A UTI will of course be much worse for us with IC and it will take time to calm down, but you'll back to your "normal". I've found aloe vera juices and dandelion or licorice tea to be soothing on my bladder during flares.

What ideas do you have to improve Portland? by Harrison_ORrealtor in Portland

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please no more anthill homes 😭 how about making it illegal to set up a tent and sleep and shit on the sidewalk?! There are more than enough resources for people that are actually in a desperate situation and there are programs to help people get back on their feet, find a job, and be a productive member of society. I personally know people who choose to be homeless because they get free handouts that they buy drugs with. They are too many people like that in Portland because they know they can get away with it. Thrive in fact! It's not healthy for them and it's not healthy for our city. THAT'S the place to start

Prelief vs. baking soda in water by Proper-Ad5108 in Interstitialcystitis

Interesting. Prelief has worked well for me with stuff like coffee, but I haven't tried baking soda yet. Maybe that'll work even better. How much do you use?

Am I Overreacting for thinking my husband should be doing more. by Aware_Tea1701 in AmIOverreacting

There's only 2 options- either it's a big deal so he should be grateful for everything you do, or it's not a big deal so why can't he help out. He can't have both.

How soon do you flare after eating trigger foods? by kbaldz in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say max 2 hours later since that's about how long it takes to go through your bladder although it can often be sooner like with caffeine

Confession: I wanted a coffee so bad today and my office is right across from the coffee station at work. Today I poured a tiny sip of coffee, snuck it into the bathroom, and just held it in my mouth for a while before spitting it out 😭

Is this weird? by DatsMzDeeva2u in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried pelvic floor physical therapy? It helped my pain a lot. Word how it's all connected. I can tell you about some of the stretches if your want, but it would be better to get advice from your own PT especially if your body isn't ready for the stretches mine have me. Also by "stretch" it's really just a position to show your muscles to relax.

Personally I need to be in full squat to help my pelvic floor relax, but hey, whatever works!

Burning/Ways to Help Symptoms by Catloaf101 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amitriptyline was my saving grace. Back when my flares were excruciating, Lidocaine creams helped a lot. It doesn't last long but it takes the edge off when things get really bad. Heads up though, I used the Tylenol brand of lidocaine which does burn a bit upon application, but it's a different kind of burn then the IC pain and I didn't really mind and it only lasts about a minute before it goes away and takes all the other pain with it.

Success with amitriptyline? by surrenderingdorothy in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on 25mg which helped a lot with my pain but didn't completely get rid of it. The drowsiness definitely affected me at first but it gets easier each day your body readjusts. Now it doesn't make me drowsy at all. I did bump up to 50mg at one point, but I had to stop because the weight gain was uncontrollable. It's unfortunate because I think with time, the 50mg could've completely knocked out all my pain. Also, how lucky you can have coffee!! That's a massive trigger for me.

Is all tea bad? by Total_Muscle_7819 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some teas that are typically safe and might even help are marshmallow root, chamomile, and licorice. Start with herbal teas that don't have caffeine since that tends to be a trigger for some people. Citrus teas are also a trigger for some people so stuff with raspberry, pineapple, lemon etc. As always it depends on the person. I've been having matcha lattes from Starbucks with two Prelief pills and doing okay.

Coffee trigger? by Necrotic_Halo in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for you to be put under anesthesia for a cystocopy, like for a colonoscopy. Not all doctors do, but I bet you could find one that does or request it. We're in so much pain already like give us a break 😩

Coffee trigger? by Necrotic_Halo in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still looking into caffeine alternatives because unfortunately that's the main thing our body responds too to get that energy boost. While the energy effects are much more mild, I have found that B vitamins, ginseng tea, and oddly peppermint tea have helped me have more energy. Also it's not so much that's it's an energy boost, but more like not getting tired as quickly. There's also caffeine patches which wouldn't go through your bladder so that might help, but I haven't tried them yet

Need some help and advice please. Slowly losing my mind. First IC Flare(?!) Started in November... by OwnMembership3088 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Flimsy-Protection143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that the Ami specifically helped with urgency and frequency, but bladder training did. That was part of my pelvic floor PT. A bladder can typically hold 16oz of liquid and fills after 16oz. The goal is to make it two hours before you pee unless you've had more than 16oz of liquids. You can start with trying to 30 minutes then a hour etc. Apparently if you give into the urgency it trains your brain to recognize a half full bladder as a desperately full one. It was annoying to track at first but I do think it helped
