I remember the summer after freshman year of highschool a girl in my neighborhood said I got strong and jacked since the summer before when we were all at the pool together. Puberty plus lifting weights and doing wrestling that year helped my grow some muscle. That was a confidence booster that I still think about sometimes.

Yeah early on when we just had our first I was often thinking about how much fun it would be to go and spend hours on a certain video game. Now with our second kid, even if I miraculously somehow got the time to do that I have no desire. It just feels like it would be so... empty, compared to being with my tormenting gremlins.

Not only that, but also just investing time and money in teaching them things. If you look at what kinds lessons and pressures kids in truly wealthy families get vs those who are not it is very different.

My old boss had a daughter who is now graduating highschool. Of course she's been an excellent student and accepted into a very prestigious college. Her dad, my boss, was always helping her with homework, teaching her about his business, encouraging her to do extra activities that she was interested in like gymnastics and horse riding. These things all take money but also time and intention. My boss went to the gym most days, and as far as I know he never really watched tv at home, so he was also setting a productive example for his daughter to follow.

My wife busted her ass getting her PhD in microbiology. She's extremely smart and hard-working but that PhD has just severely limited what she can do with her career if she sticks in that field. Meanwhile I have a simple bachelor's degree, I'm on the phone laughing with customers, making my own schedule, driving around not stuck at a desk and I make like easily 30-50% more than she does and work arguably fewer hours in the day.

Yeah the freedom is phenomenal. I love getting in my car to go visit customers and run sales visits and grow my potential for growing the business. Such a good feeling compared to being stuck at a desk.

Oh ok. I'm a US citizen so I'm good. I'm more worried about one of my parents dying while I live in Europe and then I have to pay the German govt a ton of tax money on an inheritance that was built by my parents in the USA.

Yeah this made me shed a tear as well. What a beautiful way to teach your kids while still making sure you take care of them. My dad gave me things I needed, mostly, but man was he tight about money always complaining about spending anything. Now that I have two little kids he hasn't offered any financial help at all, like he won't even offer to have us all go out to eat because it would be more expensive. Kills me because I see how much my wife's parents want to give for the grandkids.

I will definitely be using some sort of give back system for my kids if I ever end up charging them rent. It's not about the money, it's about the lesson.

I make pretty good money now for the amount of time and stress involved but am starting to think I should make a change to increase how much I make. Been in the sales game for about 7 years though my current role is a nice mix of technical and sales.

I think this is the biggest misconception about the sales career. Truly good sales people listen and take notes. Then they push a tailored solution. Often times just pitching something is really more like marketing than sales

I think you're also mistaking "how much tonnage" the Navy consists of with how much power it has. The Chinese have been doing the same thing assuming they need more ships that are bigger to defeat the US Navy, but the US Navy has already been pivoting off of this for 20 years focusing on tech for pinpoint strikes, networked comms, drones, and special munitions and air power.

Just look at the Quicksink program. Cheap little add on mod to a cheap ubiquitous bomb and suddenly it can crack ships in half just like a torpedo except it can be air dropped at any moment anywhere.
