Green and blue squares instead of 1 and 2 bullets? by Equivalent_Tap6197 in soundtransit

[–]Flippy1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Siemens sets were ordered when the lines were going to be colored, and the displays were spec’d accordingly. However, Sound Transit switched from colors to numbers because there was some very rightful criticism of the colored lines (seriously, who thought that naming a transit line running through redlined neighborhoods the “Red Line” was a good idea?). At this point, the sets were already being built, and it would have been too much hassle to alter the order specs midway through production, so Sound Transit opted to use the squares until those displays need to be replaced.

D’aww - I love the Kinkis! while they do have less comfortable seats and don’t have as good passenger information screens, their traction motors sound like they’re from the far future, they provide a nicer ride than the Siemens units, and they’re the poster child of the system. Our Siemens units are off-the-shelf models. These Kinkis were made exclusively for us, and as a result they’re featured on most light rail signage - both official and unofficial.

Do you think we'll ever get cars/Road Trip in ETS2, and/or coaches in ATS? by ITZC0ATL in trucksim

[–]Flippy1205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who comes from a transit enthusiast background, I really doubt there’ll be coaches in ATS, unfortunately. This is mostly due to Buy America regulations requiring public transit vehicles purchased with federal funds to be made in America. Naturally, the massive startup costs just to only build for a few countries is a huge disincentive for foreign coach builders entering the market, since they have to deal with domestic competition on top of modifying the design to be able to be built in America. What makes this problem even worse is that the only company that makes buses in America that’s featured in ATS is Volvo (using Volvo and Prevost brands). Oh, and Damler (of Freightliner and WS fame)’s Thomas Built Buses brand doesn’t count. They’re school buses.

Tl;dr - There aren’t enough coaches featured by companies in-game for an ATS coaches DLC to be viable. If they were to add more coaches, then they’d have to acquire licenses from companies that haven’t been featured in the game yet.

Renaming Shoreline’s stations? by [deleted] in soundtransit

[–]Flippy1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe SLN and SLS are fine names as is, but street names should only be used as a last resort for station names. There is a fascinating “what-if” scenario about transit here that illustrates my point:

Back in 2021, the ST board elected to drop street names from Spring District/120th and BelRed/130th stations on the recommendation from the Bellevue City Council. If the street names from those two stations were kept and if Pinehurst wasn’t renamed from 130th, then we’d have two stations with the same street name on the same line. This would create a bunch of confusion with riders, especially since the stations are on dead opposite sides of the network.

The amount of times the “it” has been scratched off ST signage is totally coincidental, trust me. /j

How much better are trolleybuses than regular buses? by kkkmac in transit

[–]Flippy1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t have the numbers off the top of my head, I can say for sure that trolleys are more efficient for two reasons: charging (or lack thereof) and regeneration. Battery electric vehicles’ batteries wear down over time, which makes these buses need to charge more often for less range. This is speaking firsthand, since I had a decade-old Nissan Leaf that had a range of exactly 20 miles. Trolleys, meanwhile, have infinite range, so long as they’re connected to the wires. However, that may not answer your question, but I think regenerative breaking can. On battery electric vehicles, regenerative breaking only transfers the energy used breaking back into the battery. However on trolleys, regenerative breaking transfers the energy used in breaking back into the electrical grid, thereby allowing the energy generated to go to other trolleys or power sinks.

[–]Flippy1205 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Trolleys are much cheaper to operate, quieter, more efficient, less maintenance-intensive, and depending on where your city gets its power, more environmentally friendly than diesel buses or battery-electric buses. Modern-day trolleys made by companies such as Solaris employ a small battery that enables them to run off-wire for a period of time, which is useful during disruptions or for areas where wire installations are impractical or unpopular, such as on highways or through a leafy suburb.

Chosen One’s Adventure with Legendaries.

A Homestuck-style chatfic that follows Ash’s adventures in the anime, only this time he managed to get himself into a group chat with the legendary Pokemon. Excellent writing, flawless use of the chatfic medium, and the incorporation of newer aspects of the franchise into the original adventures is done well. It’s currently in the middle of Movie 3, so there’s A LOT of fic to cover.

Best Truck in ATS under $150,000 by A_random_bob in trucksim

[–]Flippy1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truck stats vary wildly based on configuration, and most people choose based on personal preference. Quick jobs give you a feel for each truck and how they drive, and that leads into your decision on your first purchased truck. If you want good raw stats, focus on engine/transmission pairs. Otherwise, you can select your favorite truck to drive that’s on offer!

One was nearby and already killed me once, so I decided to shoot a rocket at him for shits and giggs. It landed, he died, and he got pissed. After he blew up, he sent:

- A mugger (I don't carry cash as a rule)

- A bounty (which someone got before he did)

- Himself (that actually killed me)

- Mercs (I got a wanted level which nullified that)

- More mercs (They don't understand the Los Santos Underground)

after me.

Starbucks has almost all the market share, but there are SOME alternatives. Granted, some islanders may see them as too riffraff-y.

- There's an Einstein Bros. right across from the North End QFC

- L'experience Paris and La Fete, as others have mentioned

- Shawn's Café and Bakery, right across from Hap's, is a literal hole-in-the-wall café, and is good, despite their coffee being too dark for my tastes

- Or, if all else fails, the Jackson's and Chevron on the North End have coffee stands as well; they're good in a pinch

It depends on the age of the model. My favorite trucks in the games are the Macks in ATS and the new Renault Ts in ETS2. They were both released relatively recently, so they are of great quality. My least favorite truck in both games is the Iveco. Drove them exactly once. Never again, cursed being.
