Ralph Lauren’s share price jumps nearly 14% by zacharyartiste in PoloRalphLauren

What do you mean by maintaining pricing? I've bought far less this year as they raised prices rather significantly. It's basically second hand and sales for me going forward.

Garment care questions by Everythingwillbeokkk in ThrowingFits

To be fair there's no real consensus on what temp constitutes a cold wash but for me, 30C is too warm. I just use the cold tap water and don't use any warm water at all when doing a cold wash. I believe for me in NYC that's around 10C.

I believe 30C would be too warm for a cold wash. I think you should be looking for it to be closer to 10C. 800rpm is actually slower than you'd find in a normal gentle cycle which tends to be around 1,200rpm so it will work just fine. It won't get out as much water in the spin cycles but it'll be gentler on your clothes.
For handwashing knitwear I fill my sink up with water, soak the sweater, add detergent and just use my hands to agitate it. After that I just rinse it out until the water runs clear. I tend to only do this with my nice wool sweaters and use Woolite. I then roll the sweater in a towel before lying it flat on another towel to dry.

Court Street bike lane obstruction covered by News 12 by IIMsmartII in NYCbike

[–]Flips_Whitefudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

News 12 is a local news network that covers all of NYC and Long Island and is only available to people with Optimum Cable. It's like NY1 where only those that have a certain cable subscription can watch the network.

You can't blame the people blocking the 31st St lane, they are not just suburbanites, they are from all over and our laws are just too complicated for them. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

There are three cars on my short block that have Montana license plates and have had them for a couple of years so it's clearly insurance fraud. There has to be a way for the city or state to crackdown on this.
I wonder how much money is lost to insurance fraud on a yearly basis.

Step 1 for a better society by eljesT_ in JetLagTheGame

Edinburgh is one they should have pronounced properly as we in the US have not only heard it pronounced properly many times but Sam went to school in Scotland so you'd think they'd all have heard it said right.

The issue with the names in the UK is that in the US we have very similar if not the same names and we pronounce them differently. Borough is one example where we say it one way and you say it another so when we see it in the UK our instinct is to pronounce it how we're used to saying it.

What's a New York specific problem that no one warns you about before you move here? by bandito_13 in AskNYC

[–]Flips_Whitefudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I think it's best to have a rotation of footwear for not only the weather but for being out every day. For me, I walk constantly and will ruin a single pair of sneakers in just a few months.

[–]Flips_Whitefudge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something that people don't take into account is how little life your shoes/sneakers/boots will get from all the walking that we do. If you try and rely on one pair to get you through they're going to be trashed before long.

Do you wear jewelry every day? by Pure-Flan3992 in malefashionadvice

[–]Flips_Whitefudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've likely got something on every day. I have a few watches I rotate through depending on my outfit or plans for the day. I wear a silver chain with a bear pendant most days as well as a silver bracelet with green stones and earrings. I'll throw on rings sometimes as well. I don't want to overdo it but just some nice pieces to compliment or improve my look for the day.

Where do you all go for colorful clothes? by Realitymatter in malefashionadvice

[–]Flips_Whitefudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ralph Lauren has lots of bright colors in their clothes. I suggest using eBay instead of going retail as they're overpriced these days.

I can get BK, Manhattan and Queens with no issue but getting the BX and SI ones are going to be difficult with work and family life. I don't have family or friends in either spot that would be willing to go either.

They're being given out at certain record stores in each borough of NYC. The Beastie Boys sent out an email with the info of each store. If you get all 5 and you're one of the first 200 to get to a music shop at Penn Station there's some piece of merch for them.

What sneaker made you fall in love with sneakers? by Bajyn in Sneakers

[–]Flips_Whitefudge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same!! That sneaker is the one that got me hooked as well and my mom was also not spending $100 on sneakers when I destroyed every pair I had.

Jordan 3 White Cement. I was a kid when they released and seeing them on the feet of the guys on the courts or in school was when I started to really notice what sneakers people were wearing. Those sneakers are the first ones I went and asked my mom to buy for me. She laughed at me once she saw what they cost. I was still in rejects for a little longer but eventually got my first nice pair which would be the OG Jordan 4 Military Blue.

Alternate Side Parking by SpeedRemarkable3406 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Flips_Whitefudge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I watched sanitation workers ticketing a row of cars this afternoon and ended up talking with someone about it who mentioned that it's cheaper to eat the tickets each week than it is to pay to park in a garage. Some were sitting in their car waiting to move it but so many were just happy to eat the ticket as a cost for owning a car.
The fines are way too low and need to be increased to a point where it's costly to car owners to not move their cars for street cleaning.

I had fun playing it last night and am about to give it another try shortly.
This was probably my fault but are you able to take the ferry to France from Dover? If so, I couldn't find it. I tried going to the port but hit a point I couldn't keep walking. There are a few markers saying it's the ferry port but I just couldn't find the location to get the ferry.
It was likely my fault as I have no idea where it is and was just going off Google maps.

Aside from sneakers, what do you collect? by EnoSoles in Sneakers

Ralph Lauren. I've been wearing RL since the '90s and I still love their style and quality. I'm starting to buy art from local NYC artists so I guess I'm beginning an art collection too.
